Oh My God... I have found TV Geek Nirvana... and I am seriously in need of bandwidth!! I edited my TNM page, and added a link to Brimstone on IMDB. While I was on the page, I went to have a look at the forums, and discovered this link:

http://www.dapcentral.org (Tagline: "Congesting the Internet, One .AVI At a Time")

Man... it's like I could hear the Angels singing "Halleluyah!" It is the Digital Archive page, and gives ed2k links to all the episodes of Brimstone... and Clone High, most of MST3K? (including the "Puma Man"!!), Max Headroom, Dr Katz, Freakazoid and more... I so need uncapped broadband right about now...

I would love to co-ordinate a concerted effort of all the people with access to big fat internet pipes to help download this stuff... anyone with me?

Oh... and I have tried Mozilla Firefox and found it to my liking... so for now it is my default browser until it pisses me off...

And over the weekend I spent time with Mels and Dave at their little soiree, which was shiny, and a little smokey. I woke up on Sunday morning feeling like Death warmed over. My sinuses had completely shut down and I had a major sinus headache. Eventually got out of bed and went to go get some Sinutab and met my parents as they were at New York Deli getting supplies to watch the Sunday Golf and Grand Prix (I was there to get dessert for the Vampire game later that night). I went past nandos on the way home and loaded up on Sinutab after I had eaten. Managed to get another hour's sleep before my alarm went off for me to get ready to go roleplay. I slowly surfaced to real conciousness about an hour later when the roleplaying actually started. Luckily we were playing at Hila's house and everyone had to smoke outside. It's tough being the only non-smoker (AND the new guy) in an established roleplaying group. Luckily the game is awesome, so I have no plans at all to leave.

And I have still not yet seen "Honey"... I will have to organise the troops for next Monday...

Thanks for the cool com stuff..Gorge REALLY likes it...feels good to have usefull stuff again...btw how am i doing with the standing still stuff teach? - GoldenAngel

So last night I went to the Kill Bill Vol 2 preview, organised by Heat magazine (my friend who is a DJ on GHFM got me the tickets). They showed Kill Bill Vol 1 first, and then Vol 2... which was shiny.

When my friend gave me the tickets, he told me to get there early as it was a "sit wherever you want" deal, and there was going to be a lot of people. So I went through very early, was the first person there, got myself a seat "in the middle, in the middle" and waited for the movie to start. It was supposed to start at 7:30. I got there at 7:00. At 7:50 they started with the announcements by the people from Heat magazine at the front... and then they started handing out free caps. They were calling out ticket sale seat numbers (so they were not saying whoever is sitting in seat K7, they were saying one of the people that booked seats K6-K10 can come get a cap). So I look at the ticket I have... B9-10. I am sitting NO-WHERE NEAR B9-10. But, Lo and Behold, one of the winning tickets is B9-10. So I stand up and say "I've got the ticket for B9-10, but that's not where I am sitting"> So the woman says, "Sorry, you have to be sitting in that seat.".... Damn! Just my luck. Then, as they are still handing out caps, the people who have tickets for the seat I am sitting in come and sit down and kick me out of the seat. So I go down to the people handing out the caps, and tell them that I thought it was a "sit wherever you want" deal, and show them the ticket... and they gave me the cap!! Shiny. (And I have just started playing an assassin character with a ponchance for vietnam and assassin style movies and movie paraphanalia... so this would be cool to wear to gaming sessions... wheee!)

I enjoyed the evening. I won't comment on the movie as I am finding more and more that the more I hear about a movie from a friend (no matter if they say they liked it or hated it), the less I end up liking the movie... so all I am going to say is that I enjoyed the evening.

Sidenote: Anyone know anything about cars? The sum total of my knowledge of cars is "Red cars go faster". The reason I ask is because my car had a wierd moment last night. When I left work, the car felt a little sluggish when it started to move. This sluggishness continued throughout the night, but only when the car started to move from being switched on. If I stopped at a light, it was not sluggish to go when the light turned green. It felt like the tyre pressure was all wrong and the car felt like it was leaning to one side, but I had the tyre pressure checked, and it was all fine. That was symptom one.
Symptom 2 was that from 70km/h to about 95km/h the car shuddered... a lot. The whole chassis seemed to shake, and then when I hit 100km/h it calmed down and was fine.
Symptom 3: Halfway through all my driving through the night the foot brake suddenly needed to be pushed a lot further in to actually start working. I was pushing it to places it normally only goes when I am driving at Mach 2 and need to stop in three meters (ie. Slamming on anchors position)... and that was just to slow down for a robot while I was not driving that fast... and then it suddenly went away again, and started braking in the normal position.
And this morning the car was fine. I was going to take it in (I had already taken it in for it's yearly checkup last Friday), but my dad's car is in the shop today so I thought I would skip it and check to see how it drives over the weekend.
Any ideas what might have happened?

You sound like someone who's never watched The Twilight Zone, dude. You need to pay a visit to the local cleric, and check that neither you nor your car are possessed. And do it BEFORE I get there, alright? - GeekDotNeo

Well... we managed to get everyone going to drive to Icon into the same room at the same time and hammered out some details. While we were there, various different topics came up including the movie "The Secretary". Which, as it happened, turned out to be the movie we watched at TNM.

While we were chatting before the movie started, Garrick invited me to join his Sabbat game on Sunday nights. Wheeee! So I chatted to Dave, Mels and Hila about the kind of character they would like me to play, and got a few ideas rolling in my head. After the movie, everyone leaves except for Garrick and I started brainstorming with him about the character. I come up with some really nice ideas that would fit nicely. So after Garrick leaves, I work a little on it, and then go to sleep.

But I can not get to sleep, because the council has decided to rip up the tarmac on Eastern Boulevard and it was not so much the noise as the vimbrations that kept me awake all night. Eventually, at about 4:30am, I went downstairs and wrote up the history for my Vamp character, and started doing some research online. Eventually crawled into bed at 6am, and the alarm went off at 6:45am. Crawled to work, crawled back home, watched the last episode of Angel (sniff, sniff), and went to sleep.

Woke up at 4am, went downstairs, surfed the net for a while, went back to sleep, woke up, watched some TV, created (with, like, dots and everything) my Sabbat character when Garrick came over, then watched some stuff I had downloaded (7 episodes of an Internet show called The Money $hot, set in the offices of a Porno Review Magazine; and Chris Rock's HBO special called Never Scared) and then went with Garrick to the Gandalf Trax Free Drinks party. Drank one drink drink (some girly fruity thing), and then had to order a "double fuck-all and coke on the rocks" because the barman refused to hand over a "Coke and ice". Anyway... there were many fine looking women around, so at least I had some eye candy (when I could see through the smokey haze).

On Sunday, I got my nandos early and then headed out to the game where I had a lot of fun. Since my characters first action was the one thing he was awesome at doing, I made a great first impression. It looks like much fun will be had with this character. After the game, I braved the increasing amount of smoke to continue chatting til the early hours.

2 June 2004

So another dull Wednesday night is slowly coming to a close. Since I had nothing better to do with my time, I watched two of the movies I had downloaded, "Nemesis Game" and "Pieces of April".

Nemesis Game
It has a great cast. Carly Pope (the good looking brunette intelligent heroine from the TV series "Popular"), Brendan Fehr (the tallest of the aliens from the TV series "Roswell", and star of the movie "Forsaken"... the less said about that movie the better), Adrian Paul (star of the Highlander TV series, and star of the movie, "The Breed"... once again, the less said about that movie the better), Rena Owen (the actress who played the mother in the amazing movie "Once Were Warriors", and bit part actress in a movie called "Wicked Prayer", which is the Crow 4, starring David Boreanaz as a demon wannabee and Edward "I can't fucking act" Furlong as the Crow... muthaphuquer! The less said about that movie the better) and Jay Baruchel (star of the TV series "Undeclared", and supporting star of the movie "Matthew Blackheart: Monster Smasher", which looks like a poor "Army of Darkness" wannabee... yes, once again, the less said about that movie the better).

Now... about the movie... I was going to say "the less said about it the better", but it actually does deserve a little comment. Carly Pope is great. She acts well, looks great and is very believable. The rest of the cast... well... they tried their hardest. The atmosphere was excellent. The cinematography was good. The script, for the most part was decent... the story just did not have a good ending. And that ruined a really enjoyable movie. It made me feel like I had just wasted 90 minutes. I was really enjoying the movie until the last 5 minutes.

Pieces of April
So then I decided to watch "Pieces of April". Once again, a great cast... Katie Holmes (who is on my Laminated Top 5), Oliver Platt (who is definitely NOT on my Laminated Top 5) and an oscar nominated performance by Patricia Clarkson. It was filmed on video tape (which is not my favourite medium), and is a slow steady story. The pain of each of the characters is almost palpable. And not just the emotional pain of each character, but in some cases also the physical pain. Not an easy movie to watch. But the ending makes it all worth it. Thankfully, the movie is not very long (only 75 minutes), but totally worth it.

...

And while I sit here alone, I wonder if it is not that bad after all. Since a friend of mine has been forced by his girlfriend to get rid of all his memorabilia from his life before meeting her, including every photograph he ever had. All I want is a normal relationship... you know, like in the cartoon below:

http://www.xperts.co.za/reuel/porn.gif

But seriously, all I can say about to night is thank goodness I watched "Nemeis Game". The reason is that there is a girl in the TV series "Carnivale" who I have been dying to know where I knew her from, and watching "Nemisis Game" made me remember that I knew Jay Baruchel from "Undeclared", which is also where I knew this actress from... whew... now I can go to sleep tonight...

Stu... This is the pain of a TV addiction ;-)

I started this download: Battlefield Baseball

It's possible that it might be in Japanese with no subtitles, and if so, I'll stop it... but after reading the blurb on IMDB I just HAD to at least try to get it... here is the blurb:

I watched this movie not knowing much about it, but after watching it, I can truly say this is one of the most absurd movies I have ever seen. The Japanese love to mix genres, and with this one it is comedy, action, zombie film and musical all rolled into one big laugh fest. The wackiness starts off with a baseball team trying to make it to the finals but facing their first opponents the Gedo team, which consists of zombie/demons kills almost the entire team.
A rogue ex-player joins the high school and is recruited to the failed team in hopes that they can defeat them. The recruitment leads to the films first of 3 (that I can remember) comedic musical numbers giving background information on the characters.
The wide array of characters blends well for the film, and lends to the ridiculous scenes with the team facing off against the Gedo zombie team, who have their own rules for baseball, which doesnt even contain the actual game of baseball, but just attacking the other team attempting to kill them all. A movie that has to be seen to be believed. Theres no way this strange humor would work in America, so if you like off the wall comedies, try to get a copy of this movie and see for yourself.

I am trying to get a copy to see for myself... if it's in English (or subtitled), this will definitely be a TNM movie... the MST3K? possibilities must be endless...

OK, I looked at the first 3 minutes, and it is not dubbed or subtitled, but I found a subtitle file online. So I am going to continue to download the movie because it looks priceless. It's like Shaolin Soccer meets Major League meets Kill Bill. (Oh, and speaking of Kill Bill Vol1, my cousin downloaded the Japanese version of Kill Bill which has the major fight scene in Japan in colour and not black and white which was the way it was released to the western world. Just before going to go see Kill Bill Vol2, I think we should get together and watch Kill Bill Vol1.)

Reason why I was battling with the Server so much: COM1? and COM2? were faulty. So now I am trying to do the whole thing again, but on a different PC...

Had a bizarre night last night.

I could feel I had a temperature, so I took myself off to bed really early (7:20pm). I put on my heater before getting under the covers and tried to go to sleep. I tossed and turned for 2 hours, because I just could not get warm. My whole body (well, except for my face) was freezing. My muscles were all clenched and I desperately tried to find some magical folding technique that would stop the cold air from going onto my feet. But my head was hot. Very hot. Boiling. I could actually feel the brain fluid bubble and expand. And then at about 21:30-ish, it stopped... I was able to relax my body and not feel cold.

I had an hallucination that someone apologised to me for leaving the "Cold machine" on for so long... I was only supposed to be cold for an hour, but I went to sleep too early so they only realised it now. Apparently it was an experiment in how human's use their mind to control their own temperature... anyway...

So then I was not cold exactly, but still not warm... my head was still way too hot... so I decided to turn off my heater. I got out of bed, and my room temperature was great... under the covers was still cold, but out of them was fine. And so I tried to go back to sleep.

But the heat of the room (room was hot, but I was still cold... ) was getting to my sinuses, so I got up and went downstairs to get a Sinutab. Went back to bed and waited for the pills to kick in... Eventually they did, but I woke up about 20 minutes later, once again bathed in my own sweat... so went to go get clean sheets, redid my bed, and went back to sleep... and woke up this morning, still cold, and feeling like I was in a car accident.

Then I spent the day at clients fixing little niggling problems here and there (including one machine that downloaded files off the network slower than off the internet), and getting a new machine for the server that I battled with yesterday... which hopefully has working COM ports...

(btw... if you are wondering why I did not just call in sick, you have to remember I am working for a man who returned to work a WEEK after having his KIDNEY REMOVED. So the only reason I can call in sick is if I come down with the Ebola virus... and even then, I can only be off for 2 days)

At least I am getting a home cooked meal tonight ;-)

17 May 2004

So the weekend did not start out too great. On Thursday night I caught a big dose of the insomniax and ended up worse than the chap below:

http://www.xperts.co.za/reuel/mylife.gif

Basically, I got NO sleep at all.

Then I spent the entire day on Friday trying to get a Windows NT machine to acknowledge it had an ISDN modem, and allow outside users to dial into it, and see the entire network. But what happened was that the users would log in, and then get 255.2555.255.255 as a subnet... and hence could only see the modem end of the server, and not the network card end of the server, and so could not send print jobs to the server's printers. ARGH!! (I am rebuilding today as Win2K? Adv Server with an internal ISDN modem, and will see how well it responds)

I was given a reprieve of sorts on Friday evening though. Friday night supper with the folks was cancelled, so I was able to watch Angel (on Mnet), Buffy (on Series) and then go to sleep. I did record Stripperella (it was great), Taxicab confessions (also bizarre... the first couple were swingers and the next guy wanted the cab driver to take him to get some crack whores... Americans!), the bad Mnet pr0n movie (still have not watched it) and (and this is the point of the whole sentence) Roman Polanski's Fearless Vampire Killers... which looks wondefully camp and silly. I must watch it at some point.

On Saterday, I woke up early-ish (well, early for me), and started to do my washing while watching all the missed TV I recorded during the week. Then called up Garrick and went off to go watch "Van Hellsuck". Yeah... ok... um... right... Shiny werewolves... but campish, over the top vampires, plot holes one could drive a ten-ton semi through and continuity errors abounded... luckily Garrick was of the same opinion and so we quietly MST3K?'ed our way through the movie... which made it a really fun experience.

It was too early to go off to the One Ring, so we arbed in Lizards for an hour... it was great fun asking the barman to swop the R1 coins we had left for R2 coins, and then telling him "We are going somewhere cheaper".

One Ring was average, until it got too smoky and I had to leave before dying. Saw Greg's sister on the way out... hhhherrmmmm... had a wierd little conversation with her, but since she was drunk I am sure my best lines are now long forgotten... oh well.

Sunday I was very bored, and decided to watch a number of the movies I had on my HD. I watched "Secondhand Lions" which was great, but the it's the last "I'm so cute" Haley Joel Osment movie that they can make. The next movie he is in, he needs to start playing more grown up roles. Next was "Tears of the Sun". It was Ok... heart wrenching at the end, but pretty standard stuff. Next up was "Changing Lanes". The whole completely messed up situation could have been avoided if they had just taken a moment to talk to each other and try and help each other out. Otherwise, they were completely fucked up and it was an awful movie to watch... not because the story or the acting was bad (because, to be honest, even though it had Ben Assflack in it, the acting was not that bad), it's just that the situation was all just so unnecessary. And finally, on MM2?, I watched "Light It Up", another movie where the situation could have been avoided had people just talked properly to each other and not had any preconcieved ideas before entering into negotiations. But, all in all, it was a good movie with a good message and another heart wrenching ending...

And this morning I woke up drowning in my own sweat. Not too sure what happened last night, but my dreams were on the seriously wierd side and my body feels like it has run a marathon (or at least, the 100 meter dash... which for me amounts to the same thing)

And it is 15:05 and I am still battling with the damn server!!!

05 May 2004

Ok, this is not an official post, just a dire dire warning. Avoid the movie "Party Monster" like the ebola virus that it is. It stars Seth Green (normally, very good... but in this movie he sucked major monkey scrotum) and Macauley Culkin (doing the typical child star thing of disappearing for a while, growing up and then starring in a low budget indie movie to rectify his rep... his "rep", in this case, being "Holy Fuck, I can't act my way out of a brown paper bag").

This movie is soooo bad, that no matter how much I berate it, if you ever watch it it will STILL fall BELOW your expectations. Yes, it is that bad... Actually, I lie... it's worse... so much worse. It is catagorically, the worst movie I have ever watched... Even surpassing the last worst movie (a period piece called "Brideshead Revisited" which was a 10 hour long miniseries I sat through with my parents one Sunday... we watched it to the bitter end hoping in vain for a point... it never arrived). Yes, this movie was only 90 minutes, but it felt like 10 hours...

Oh god... I think I am going to have post dramatic stress disorder from this movie... I really should have gone to www.indb.com to see if Mia Kirshner got naked in the movie before downloading it (she doesn't, btw... though she does get naked in the new TV series she is in called "The 'L' Word"... the "L" word being Lesbian).

/me washes his brain out with Kleen Green...

03 May 2004

Am I blagging again? I don't know... only time will tell

The Coupling Day on Saturday was great. It ran ultra smoothly, there were more than enough breaks, we went through the episodes quickly, but not so quickly that they started to blend into each other. And they were all damn funny.

But almost everyone left at around midnight (with 2 more hours left to go), except for Shelagh... We ended up watching "The Butterfly Effect". Ok, it was not a brilliant movie by any streatch of the imagination, and Ashton Kutcher just did not have the acting range for a scene or two and if you looked hard enough, there were more than a few plot holes... but having said all that, if you want a movie that is just nice entertainment and your brain is not working too hard (ie. like at around 5am) then it is a great movie to watch. I thouroughly enjoyed it (and, having now said that, I am sure I have just ruined the viewing enjoyment for all those people reading this).

Sunday was filled with TV watching (having two episodes of Malcolm In The Middle on a Sunday Afternoon at 5pm is just not convinient, but anyway) and movie watching. I ended up watching the pilot to "The 'L' Word" (lesbian drama on Showtime in the States, which means swearing and lots of nudity... yeah, I am letting the other 11 episodes download) and a movie called "Better Luck Tomorrow" (it's about a bunch of Asian-American overachievers that get into petty crime and drugs due to boredom and lack of parental control... cool bit part by John "She's a MILF!!" Cho of American Pie and Off Centre fame). Then I tried to go to sleep...

Three hours later, I gave up trying to sleep and went downstairs and watched a movie I recorded on Friday night called "The Unsaid". Great physcological drama with Andy Garcia and Vincent "Angel's son, Connor" Kartheiser. After that, I watched the end of a Baseball game on ESPN, and finally went to sleep at 5am. By 8:45am, I was showered and at work.

Sleep used to be a friend of mine.

Anyway...

Hopefully tonight I will get to see "Honey"... I have been dying to watch it ever since it finished downloading and I can't wait... Will have to watch it with MoonFlake, ArchAngel, BabyAcid, et al because I have a feeling that no matter how good Jessica Alba looks in it, it is going to have a story so bad that even I will not be able to watch it more than once.... and then next in the queue is "Darkwolf" (It has werewolves, it has naked strippers... what more does a movie need?)
