Yeah... it's been a while hasn't it. I lost my desire to blab to the world what little things were going on in my life. Is it back? I have no idea... But I thought I'd add this thought for now...

On Thursday, I got my biannual huge Pick 'n Pay shop delivered. While ordering, I decided to get my cats some flea collars, since people were complaining about the fleas. So I put the collars on the two cats.

Locke (the huge tom) accepts the collar grudgingly, and sets about going on with his life. Demi (the not so huge, but still very large, female) acts as if I had just told her "Actually, those jeans make your ass look a lot bigger than it already is." To say she was unhappy is an understatement. So tonight, when people arrived to go to the CD Launch, I discovered that she had found a way to get the collar off. So I put it back on her, and went to the club. We get back (slightly tipsy) and the two cats proceed to sit and play with us while we chat.

Then Garrick and Candice leave, and the cats come out to say good bye as well. I get back in, and Demi wants to stay out. That was a bit strange, as she is borderline agoraphobic. She comes back in a few minutes later, sans flea collar! And this was the "dumb" one!!

It reminded me of this cartoon:

Anyway... that's it for now...

Fri - Went to the Ongoing LARP meeting at the One Ring. Realised that I am totally crap with women. The girl who I had hoped would be at Maynardville was there and did I go up to her and ask her out? Nope... my shyness slammed into me like a ton of bricks and my nose started bleeding (probably just from my fscked up sinuses, but I felt like it was because I was being chicken-shit). Dammit!

Sat - Garrick arrived for the Games day and so we had a quick game of Munchkin Fu, and then went shopping for the AllNightMovieFest. The evening was great (though I was a little dissappointed with Wyrd Sisters... but then again, it has been staring at me for the better part of six months, so maybe my expectation was unnaturally high). And after we watched "History of the World Part One", Shelagh, Garrick, Pat and I cracked open one of my new games and played Strange Synergy. Once again, the reading of the rules was a long and laborious procedure... but once we started playing, the rules became easy to understand and it went along quite quickly. And Strange Synergy is a really really cool game. Pat was really in his element, and loved the whole stategic aspect to the game. Garrick was just having fun blowing things up (and getting blown up) and Shelagh was just trying to survive. I was trying to work out the best stategy before getting my butt kicked, and failing.

  • I wasn't doing quite that badly (except for the last game) if I remember correctly - there was plenty of buttkicking for goodness going on. Fun game and next time Patrick is doomed.... - ArchAngel (10 March 2004)

Needless to say, Pat won the first two games (we were playing the capture the flag rules, which are the standard rules). Then Pat went home and the three remaining players decided that all out kill fest would be fun... and they were. Garrick won the first game, and I won the second game. All in all, I loved Strange Synergy, and I can not wait to show it to new people.

Sun - Spent the day at home, watching recorded TV and eating nandos... I love my Sundays.

Mon - Bought my house. So if I am a little skint for the next few months you now know why.

Tue - Went into the bank and transfered my deposit. There is something terrifing about signing a piece of paper that takes almost R50000 out of your bank account. I had jellied knees for the rest of the day and felt ill. But hey, at least now I am a land owner.

In the evening, I went to go watch "Underworld"... and I was "Underwhelmed". It seriously needed songs by Evanesence and Marylin Manson to increase the coolness of it's rather bland soundtrack, a better director with a better sense of style and more seethru costumes for Kate Beckinsale... and every time the main Vampire spoke I only ever heard this in my mind:
Radio DJ: What's the best shag you've ever had? Billy Mack: Britney Spears. No, only kidding, she was rubbish.

But at least the talking with people before and after was cool. And I almost forgot. My love for cheesecake is well known by now. So after the movie, I ordered some at M&B. It arrived, and it was great. So great, in fact, that I could not finish the piece I had it was so sweet. So, with a few spoonfuls left, I asked for it to be "doggie-bagged". We kept talking and were eventually the last people to leave. And I almost left without getting my doggie-bag. So I went back and asked for it, and the waiter gets this terrified look on his face (I think he had forgotten to ask for it to be saved). Eventually, the waitress we had before the movie came back with the doggie bag... which had an almost full piece of cheesecake inside... SCORE!

I was happy...

TNM last night was tres cool. And on Monday night, when we were all watching the Oscars, I laughed at Tim Robbins' speech, and commented that the people might know why soon. The reason is that his entire speech (except for the bit at the end) were all pretty much cliche's... It's like Tim Robbins went to Kevin Costner and asked him what he should say if he won... and I can just imagine Kevin Costner saying:

_(On attending the "show" -- the Academy Awards.) Kevin Costner: Yeah, I was in the show. I was in the show for 21 hours once -- the 21 greatest hours of my life. You know, you never handle your luggage in the show, somebody else carries your bags. It was great. You wear black ties for interviews, the theaters are like cathedrals, the hotels all have room service, and the women all have long legs and brains._

And then:

_Kevin Costner : It's time to work on your interviews. Tim Robbins : My interviews? What do I gotta do?
Kevin Costner : You're gonna have to learn your clichés. You're gonna have to study them, you're gonna have to know them. They're your friends. Write this down: "I'd like to thank my fellow nominees who are all spectacular." Tim Robbins : I'd like to thank my fellow nominees ... it's pretty boring.
Kevin Costner : 'Course it's boring, that's the point. Write it down._

Anyway...

So after Chelle, Al and Garrick leave, Shelagh says (and I quote) "I can hang around and chat for half an hour, and then I have to go".

That was at 23:50-ish...

At 03:10-ish, someone wanted to know how Ninja Burger was played and someone suggested we have a quick game to see...

At 05:20-ish, someone finally won and someone was kicked unceremoniously out of the house so we could both get some sleep (I believe the quote "Fuck off, he hinted" was used). ;-)))

It was a really nice evening, night... and morning. But damn, I am paying for it now... And I have the AllNightMovieFest in 2 days.... eeek. But I have found that the trick to late nights is to go have that really short sleep with the right mindframe. If you try and get a full night's rest in 2 hours, you will wake up feeling really groggy and dissorientated. But if you look at the 2 hours you have to sleep as just a quick nap, you can actually wake up and be concious and alert for a few hours...

Of course, that still did not stop me from trying to get the day off from work. But I work with my dad, and he went back to work a WEEK ofter having his kidney out... so the excuse had to be good. Unfortunately, I did not have a good enough rest before trying to come up with an excuse to take the day off. I have afeeling with my dad, he might accept "Um... yeah... hi dad.... I'm coming down with the Ebola virus today, so I'm not coming in today... Once the eyeballs stop bleeding I'll be right back, bright and early...", but then again, he might not.

So here I am at work... looking at my screen deciding what movie I want to watch while he is away.... something to make me sleepy...

04 March 2004

I just read this. Man, I am glad I am starting to get the "then/than" thing right... Other then that nothing of real interest has been happening lately. Actually, it has been rather a case of things that were supposed to happen not happening... which is kinda the reason for my quietness on this page. Oh well... TNM tonight and I get to watch an old favourite ;-)

But I have to say that Monday Night Oscar watching was fun....

and I only mentioned that so I could post this comic...

  • *d@vid March 4 2004:* carrington shows insight and logic but in re. his apostrolypse: fcuk that shit - there is a time for punctuation nazism, and there's a time to cut loose and get inscrutable; and everyone knows that paragraphs are paramount on the net -- what is this, bauhaus?
