You are on the archive wiki. The new wiki is here. Well - here's the remaining blog stuff from the old Wiki. Same disclaimer as always - D&D made me do it....

I guess I never noticed how useful having a net connection at 'varsity was until my updating became so meager. To those who were worried or about to throw a party - "I'm not dead... I feel fine.." Connecting from home proves to be expensive and this used to be a pleasant use of my lunchtime or while waiting for gels and reactions to run.

Anyhow... Life potters along at a reasonable rate, with only some of it getting me down. Been at home all week (since Tuesday) with a stomach bug - joy. Which meant that I erred on the side of caution and didn't get to go to ThursdayNightMovies. Sigh. But have recently managed to get to the movies (since my last update anyhow) and I recommend Around The World In 80 Days to all Jackie Chan fans and people who feel like having a good time - the cameos are outstanding. King Arthur wasn't bad - would give it a 6 and a half. Different take on the same story made it worth a watch, plus Clive Owen and Kiera Knightley in a leather bikini and sexy blue war paint.

clive owen in a leather bikini?? no!!! - GeekDotNeo

Also been having fun play testing modules for SchpatCON? - more to do this weekend. Consider us your roleplaying SABS. Also been up to some fun researching background for my mini-campaign idea. Fun, fun.

Congrats also to MoonFlake on two counts: 1) for the new job (yay paycheques) and 2) for her paper being accepted (my comment on her page sums up the rest...).

My brother is overseas in Italy at the moment (arrived yesterday) and has tickets to the F1 - I'm soooo jealous and really happy for him.

Well, that's all of my news boys and girls.

Greetings, salutations and sundry hellos worthy reader(s). Thought that it was time for a brief update. This past week has been pretty fun - tons of marking got dumped on me, but at least it means I'll get paid more when my time sheets go through :) I've also acquired more tutoring which is fine by me for the exact same reason.

Saturday I helped play test 'Chelle and Alex's module for SchpatCON?. Lots of fun and I recommend it :) Then watched three more episodes of Band Of Brothers with Al. Oh, had watched two more on Wednesday when I cruised over there to have a change of scenery while marking the first of three piles. Spent most of today arbing, chatted to the parentals and then took my marking off to Antoine's place. All-in-all a good week.

All-in-all a pretty arb week, but not in a bad way... For those of you who don't know I've taken a six month leave of absence from my Masters (personal stuff - if you don't know you can try asking me next time you see me). While this affords me the time to cut down the stress levels it also means that the much loved bursary is put on hold for the rest of the year. So in an attempt to make ends meet I'm tutoring at least two courses and doing marking and random stuff that needs to be done around the department. This also means that I'm eating into my personal savings a little too fast...

In response to some peoples' comments about my seeming unlimited funds for buying roleplaying books and dice (they're sooooo shiny) - I have been saving up some money waiting for something worthwhile to spend it on. So now that I have completely exhausted that fund I am happy that I have most of the sourcebooks that I want and need if I'm ever going to get my campaign ideas out of the brain and into reality. Yes, you heard me... I decided a while back that the only way to learn whether or not I can DM is by trying my hand at it. So there may be a post later in the year looking for some players for a two or three session mini-campaign. Just thought I'd let people know what's going on - spending saved up money on an enjoyable hobby. But now the saving begins again :)

But enough about monetary issues. Spent a few days in bed getting over the dreaded lurgy left over from DragonFire?. Saturday I went over to Sharpe's and learnt how to paint :) My cheap R20 Hero Clix model that I bought at ICON has been transformed into Charlotte (my D&D cleric) - thanks to Dave for his patience and the use of sundry "spare parts". I think it turned out pretty well for my first ever attempt - plus it was sooooo much fun :)

Garnd Prix on Sunday proved to be a bit boring - except for the fuel rig problem in Ferrari's pit, but they sorted it out before it became anywhere near entertaining (damn Italian efficiency). But it was great to watch with a bunch of people. Then Al introduced me to Band Of Brothers which is such an awesome series !! Spent the rest of Sunday night playing with AL and Julie's cats and watching the first four episodes.

So a good week all round. And the fun and games that is tutoring starts later today :)

Ok - enough of this nonsense - I will have to start updating more regularly again... how can I expect my poor cranium to remember everything funny/important for this long !!

Brief news:

I have a new tattoo :) Very cool celtic design in blue and black on the lower back. Had it done at Incline tattoo parlour in Claremont for the reasonable price of R350, plus the guys there are very cool. They also had a new puppy that I got to play with before and after :) Was very amusing at Stones about a week later when I made the mistake of telling FirstFallen|Jo about it and then having her pull up my shirt at unexpected moments in the evening to show it off to new people ;)

Chronicles of Riddick is awesome !!!

Kim was down for the weekend (DragonFire? 16 - more on that to come) which was fantastic (said in appropriate Australian accent for SynKronos|Jason . She kept me very busy and for once I escaped without a speeding fine.

Ok, so now we move onto DragonFire? 16 - Innocence, which is my first ever real DragonFire? (I've only ever played one module last year). I had a great time, despite getting yet another cold - my immune system seems to be trying to sabotage my roleplaying fun. A huge thank you goes out to the committee and sundry extras who kept the ball rolling and managed to organise a successful con - your hard work (and lack of sleep) is appreciated. Thanks also to SchpatOhEight|Schpat for organising Thurteem and keeping us mainly in check.

Missed the fun and games on Friday because I spent the day with Kim and had a relaxing time of it.

Saturday started out a with me on 3h 20min sleep and a bit tense as people's knee jerk reactions to the "Rules" became apparent. But the dust settled, the committee's breathing and blood pressure returned to normal and the rest of the weekend rocked. Played Clearance (Lucas's module) in the morning not as a Thurteem team, but with a cool bunch of people ( MyrdemInggala|Ada , SynKronos|Jason and Renier). Fun and games were had by all - and I got to play with a ten year old little girl.... Sat out the next module (Tai's Palace of Dreams) as I had been priveleged enough to playtest it in place of our standard Monday roleplaying. I had a great time in the playtest and from all of the feedback people seemed to enjoy themselves. I second the motion that Tai may need to seek professional help soon.

Sunday saw me with about the same amount of sleep, but still going strong. Phillip's morning module, In the City was great - hell we got to play 12 and 13 year old street urchins. How could we not have fun ? Played with GobLin|Al , PinataMonkey|Stu (who made a perfect 13 year old girl - and won Best Player for his efforts) and HoleyCrusader|Waynne . Well done to BabyAcid|Garrick for doing a great job DMing? his first con module. Gone then had Thurteem pulling out all the stops in planning the perfect heist. I nearly ended up macking my sister.... omg. Thanks to Mike (mike mike mike mike mike mike) and Conrad for the great maps and fun. We (being MoonFlake|'Chelle , PinataMonkey|Stu , SchpatOhEight|Schpat , InfernalRabbi|Lucas and myself) executed our plan flawlessly with the help of tons of planning, getting the DM drunk (sorry Shaun), the multi coloured pens, timeline and the obligatory theme music. Grats to PinataMonkey|Stu for winning Best Player - that damn accent man !

  • Aren't you forgetting someone?!!!!11!!!one!!1 - InfernalRabbi
  • Lack of sleep is my only defence - problem solved little one - ArchAngel

Finally managed to break the four hours of sleep barrier on Sunday night, so was again ready to go on Sunday. Awesome modules again. Resonance once again shows me that Unknown armies fan boys are beautifully unstable and I think that Brendan may need to join Tai for that professional help. Played with SchpatOhEight |Schpat , MoonFlake|'Chelle and SynKronos|Jason . The module was great and by the end of it MoonFlake|'Chelle and I were pretty freaked out. Grats to SynKronos|Jason for his effort as the concerned psychologist winning him Best Player for the module. The final module - Yanke's Hush was great. Casting couldn't have been more perfect. ZenStar|Alex as my mischievious cat, SynKronos|Jason as my huggable, hungry bear and MoonFlake|'Chelle as my "voice of reason" doll. I had a great time playing a six year old and there were too many great quotes to put down here now.

The after party was lots of fun - managed to get people in Obs to cross the road to avoid walking through us as we waited for The One Ring to be opened. Also managed to get our own brand of backing vocals (admittedly unsolicited) onto the poor recording of the people in the studio upstairs. Thurteem did really well and it was great to play with my own team (as opposed to Icon). Thanks to all the companies that supplied the prizes. Chatting, drinking and general tom-foolery were the order of the night and I retired to bed happy.

What a great weekend.

Wow - long time no update - transferred last two months over to a new archive and the formatting got messed, but I don't have the time or effort at present to correct it.... I'm sure you'll cope.

ICON was very cool - as my first time there I had a rocking good time. This is just a brief update to let people know I am in fact still alive. Will get around to writing some details down later, but here are some highlights:

Leaving about six hours late due to schpat's car completely rebelling against the idea of any form of travel.
Entertaining the petrol attendants at each Ultra City we stopped off at. The longest and most enjoyable game of eye-spy I have ever played !!! (hey it's amazing what you'll find amusing when you're tired and stuck in a car).
Loosing fifth gear on Lucas's car somewhere near Lainsburg on the way up - if seen wandering about aimlessly, please return. Zombies !!!!! (left-hand left-hand).
The stand up comic at the prize giving (plus Al and Jason's reactions to him) - "That's a njah Volvo". Loosing my voice.
Go web !!! Da HOOOCH.
Sunburn. The Doors.
