7 October 2004

Been an eventful few weeks since the wiki was down. Had Schpatcon, did a whole bunch things, most of which I can't remember. Got my driver's license on Saturday, had a massive accident with a motorbike on Monday. Bike fucked, rider a bit injured but ok, car prolly written off, me fine.

Now that the new wiki's up, I'll prolly switch to using the blog functionality. Well, as soon as the permission issues are sorted out. Currently only admins can blog.

Edit: Okay, fuck this is ridiculous. It's not worth going thru the page to fix up all the fuckups. Soit will look like shit from now on. Deal.

20 September 2004

Friday night was spent wrapping presents for Jo and cleaning the house in preparation for her surprise party. Had to be done on Fri cos I had the Magic prerelease tournament on Saturday. The prerelease was for Champions of Kamigawa, the first set in the new Japanese styled block. There was a huge turnout (almost 70 ppl, I think), and so I missed out on the foil prerelease card (it was a dragon too, and very cool). Philip had just better organise one for me sometime soon :P Sucky first round, cos I got drawn against Waynne. Yes, out of 70 people, I randomly got drawn against the only other person there that I knew. I beat him tho, so it was okay for me :P I ended up losing 2 of the 6 rounds (one 1-2 and the other 0-2), but I won the other 4 rounds, so I placed 13th. One more win and I would have been in the top 8, where prizes happen. Next time :P

That evening was Jo's surprise party. She was totally surprised. No idea. I think she enjoyed it. There was lots of very cool snacky food, it was fun ^_^ Sunday we mostly messed around, cleaning up after the party, playing some new Popcap games and cutting Colleen's hair. She now has a cute bob :) Sunday evening I went thru to Al's to play Lunch Money with Alex, Chelle and Waynne. Lots of fun, but my god game designers, put the fucking rules on the cards! The first game was about 4 times the length it needed to be thanks to millions of pauses while people checked the rules, and there were of course some times where people got it wrong. It got better, but shit like that erects a massive barrier to entry, making new players less likely to pick it up, and other people less keen to include n00bs in games. The cards do look very cool, but that's small consolation.

17 September 2004

Watched Appleseed last night with Si and Ada. Was very cool, although Colleen didn't really appreciate it.

I got hold of a whole bunch of movie CDs? recently from a friend who has rewritten all his stuff to CD. Duplicates that I have will be up for grabs for whoever wants them (and anything that is too crap for me to want a copy of). I'll put a list up on the Wiki sometime once I've sorted thru them all. Also there are quite a few Kung Fu movies that I'm not really interested in, so Alex if you want them you are welcome.

16 September 2004

Started doing some of the tests, but got bored, so I stopped. Most of them are not that cool. Kinda cool getting Iron Man and Psylocke as the superhero(ine)s :)

Watched Hellboy last night with Jim, Waynne and Jean. Was very cool, although the ending was a little weak. Very very Cthulhuesque :)

15 September 2004

Eh, so no work to do atm :/ If only they could spread the work out a little.

Went to Benkei for all you can eat sushi last night, was very cool. Rather expensive (R125), but such amazing fish! The butterfish and the salmon were great, so much better than other places I've been. The waiter was really cool too, suggesting stuff for us to try and generally just being very helpful. We sat right next to the cool fish tank as well, watching them swim around.

Afterwards I went thru to Chelle's to play some Doomtown with Alex. It's been a very long time since I last played, and I haven't had a look at my cards since I got a whack-load more from Dylan, so there's a lot of room for improvement. Still managed to do okay with my Flock deck vs Alex's Whateleys deck. I think it came down a lot to starting posse, and a Blessed: 2 with all the Miracles in my deck is awesome :)

Saw my first white taxi driver this morning. There are a handful of woman drivers already, but no other white people that I've seen. Next up: White women drivers. I wait with bated breath ;)

  • tim, ryan & geoff recently recquisitioned some doomtown - we even got 'deeb to play - speaka to them - d@vid sep 15 2004
Yeah, I know they do, Tim and Ryan were playing demo games at Dragonfire. I definitely want to work on my deck a lot before I bring it into a game with any of them. Their decks are actually constructed, rather than consisting of the precon plus a few random cards -- SynKronos
  • Might be an idea to get together at some point then to do some trading - Geoff, Tim and I should have duplicates to spare for copies of cards that we're short on. Give me a shout when you have some free time. - AcuteApathy?

14 September 2004

Gross taxi ride this morning :/ I'm sitting next to this fat bitch, all squashed up, which is pretty par for the course. Unfortunately, today is a hot day. So, I'm sitting next to her, and I start to feel this wet patch on my side. Sure enough, she's fucking sweating all over me. And there is no place to move up. just what I need in the morning, nausea.

Anyway, last night Si and Ada came over to borrow some anime, and I decided that it was as good a time as any to install the Voodoo3 (with video out) that Nenad lent me. That's when I notice that the Voodoo3 won't fit into the AGP slot on the mobo, cos the mobo is a new slot and the card is for an old one (AGP 1x). So I'm like "Fuck", until I realise that the Geforce 1 that has been in the machine the entire time already has a video out port. Nice. Go me. All I needed to do was install newer drivers (we had older ones installed so that PowerDVD? doesn't complain about us possibly recording DVDs), and hey presto, Appleseed on the TV (okay, I needed to mess with Vobsub a bit to get the subs to display properly, but minor). So yeah, guess we will be doing more movie screenings from now on :P

13 September 2004

Had a relaxing weekend. It's good knowing that most of the hectic work is over :) Go me. Hopefully I'll get around to more KoL? in the next little while :P

Playtested Alex and Chelle's D&D module last night, was very cool :) Really enjoyed it, although I could have done without the arguing about pointless crap at the end, and more sleep. Was fun tho ^_^

Nice day today, warm :) Getting towards spring, it's great, but it's making me feel really sleepy.

9 September 2004

Finally finished the major item for the deadline yesterday, still got a few more fiddly things to do but they're less serious. Ended up working last weekend (late on Fri and on Sat and Sun) to get it all done, the bosses were getting really antsy. Also got told off for IRCing? from work, so no more of that for me :/ Suxx0rz

Last night of the comedy allstars on Sunday was pretty cool, although it was a pity Vic didn't go thru. I think that he was the second best on the night (even accounting for the heckler), and that the right Pro is going to the UK. Domiso, the amateur, was brilliant again, so he's going with as well :P

Watched King Arthur on Friday night, was very cool :) Cheesy and melodramatic, but awesome. Kate Beckinsale in woad does it for me, totally. Tasty!

Kate Beckinsale??? o_O What movie were you watching? MoonFlake Meh, Keira Knightly, whatever. They're both hot. Names mean little to nothing to me. Although after checking some pics online, I think I prefer Keira Knightly :P But only marginally -- SynKronos

Got a free Ragnarok Online account from a friend of mine on KoL?. It's for a privately hosted server, which usually has about 30 or 40 people on it (rather than the many thousands I remember from the beta). Now I must just get around to playing... ^_^

30 August 2004

Second round of the comedy allstars compo last night. The amateurs were better than last time, the pros about the same (except for the one who suuuucked), and the guest star was just lame. Colin Moss. Stu says that he's a complete tosser, so no wonder. A much smaller turnout for CLAW affiliates than last time, but Vic still got thru to the next round, the finals, next week.

24 August 2004

Eh, been a while. Been super-busy at work, deadlines galore (mostly missed, and still missing - ah well).

Went to watch a comedy competition at Indie Armchair on Sunday night, with Vic (of Icon standup fame). It was awesome, although a lot of the guys were really bad. But hey, it was some of their first times, so kudos for that. More balls than I have. Vic went thru to the next round, which is next Sunday, so I'm keen to go again :) There'll be mostly new material, so it should be cool to go again. R30 cover charge, but so worth it :P

Yay! GmailInvites are coming thru again. Remember, anyone who has spare invites, I am the invite pimp, and as such have a long list of people I know from various places who would love to get an account. Send those invites in!

10 August 2004

What an awesome weekend :) Dragonfire was great, once we got past the initial shit. The games that I played in were generally really good, and it was awesome actually playing with my fellow Thurteem members again (as opposed to Icon where you are pretty much guaranteed not to play with them). We did really well, which is also great, and got some awesome prizes. Thanks a stack to everyone who helped organise, write modules, supply prizes or just came along to play ^_^ It rocked. And thanks to Patrick for organising Thurteem again this year, it was great even tho you do worry too much :P

Saturday morning was when all the Draconian rules and upping of prices got introduced, producing a kneejerk reaction of 'Fuck them' from a lot of people, which made the first session a little chaotic (and without an official Thurteem presence - Shelagh and I were the only Thurteemers to play, and so were part of a 'dregs' team along with Renier and Ada). Lucas's module was a futuristic conspiracy story, which amounted to pretty much a hack 'n slash, but a fun hack 'n slash :P

The organisers made a compromise on the price, and things were sorted out in time for the second session, so it was all cool again. I was again in a leftovers team, along with Stu, Lara and Hila. This was the module where we were all playing Brits, and Stu and I had a whale of a time hamming it up horribly :P Loads of fun, but so very disturbing. Tai, you need therapy!!! Then we played a marathon 7 player munchkin game, for 4 and a half hours. Too long, too many people, but pretty fun anyway.

Sunday was my gran's birthday lunch, followed by Helen's birthday tea, so I didn't get to go thru to the con at all. Good lunch and good tea tho :) In the evening we went thru to Jim's new place (which is pretty nice - nice big bedroom) with Julie to watch some movies. We only ended up watching the one Cheats - omg!! I just see now that the principal in the movie is Mary Tyler Moore! - Bizarre) before everyone got too tired.

Monday was the day that I was playing all my Thurteem modules, and what a good day to choose for that :) Both modules were very meaty in terms of character interaction, and I really had a lot of fun playing the two characters I got. The first one, a Psychologist in Brendan's UA module, I apparently got into really well, since I won best player for it ^_^ A great prize as well, a book of superhero artwork, sooo shiny! Brendan, you also need therapy tho. Go join Tai

The second module's casting was just too perfect. Shelagh as a 6 year old girl, Alex as the mischievous cat, Chelle as the constantly worrying rag doll, and myself as Big Bear, the protective, always hungry teddy :P Such an awesome time, and everyone played their characters to perfection, especially Shelagh, who is by far the best grown-up 6 year old I know ^_^ She got the best player award for that one.

The afterparty and prizegiving at The One Ring was pretty cool, had a great time sitting and chatting to people, especially my team mates about the games, and ogling the various prizes. We got such cool shit, and had such an awesome time ^_^ Thanks again to everyone involved

4 August 2004

Fuck! Just closed the browser window with my mostly completed update in it >:( Here we go again...

Friday night Colleen and I went to Chai Yo for dinner. Every time I go there I am reminded how great a Thai restaurant it is, and how much I like Thai food. I didn't feel like anything spicy (yes, at a Thai restaurant :P), so I had a sweet and sour fish dish, very nice. We should organise a mass outing to Chai Yo sometime, it's great :)

Saturday I was supposed to have a hockey match, but the fields were too wet to play on. Of course, I only find this out when I rock up at the fields and find out that nobody else is there. Nice. Sat evening went to Stones in Obs to play pool with various ppl Jo, Shelagh, Julie, Lucas, Claire, Dave, Nadine and Hila. I'm sure I'm forgetting someone. Deal). Was fun, haven't played pool in ages.

Frisbee on Sunday was a little unpleasant, cos I am still feeling a little chesty from the Icon lurgy. Ended up coughing at the end of some points, and just not being able to run as much as usual. Was still fun tho :) Had another movie evening that night, with Jim, Jo and Stu. We switched off the first movie after 10 minutes (it was that bad, despite having Denzel Washington in it), and watched Whale Rider] instead, which was excellent. The little girl really is an amazing actress for someone so young. The NZ accents were a little off-outting at first tho :P<--isnt that supposed to be "off-putting" ?-GoldenAngel Yeah, totally :P -gold star- -- SynKronos

Monday night we went to Majica Roma for my brother's birthday. I decided to have a pasta, which was much better than the canneloni that I had last time I was there. The puddings were amazing again, as always :P The only downside was my little brother kicking me underneath the table, semi by mistake :/ Brat

Been working very hard at work the last little while, we have deadlines coming up and the bosses are getting a bit tense. Doesn't help that our project manager in the States has just left, and has just been replaced by an Indian woman that we now need to get up to speed on the code we're working on. Hmmm :/ Should be 'fun'.

Roleplaying last night was great :) I gained 2 levels, thanks to some solo work on a set of hectic (poisoned) locks and traps. I came very close to dying, which I only found out afterwards, but I didn't and we got loads of loot, so it's okay :P I hope next session doesn't follow this trend of near-death experiences :/ I quite like my character.
