Okay, that's a little sad :/ I just realised now that every single wiki entry I've made this month has been dated 'July' instead of the (more appropriate) June... Well, corrected now.

Friday went over to Jo's to install my old HP CD-RW drive into Philip's machine. I hope it works, I haven't used it in a while and it was going a but dodgy. Then Jo and Stu came over to our place and we watched .]] I hadn't seen it, so it was awesome to finally catch it :) Really enjoyed it. Then we watched this anime collection called .]] Man, what a mistake! If you see it in the store and go "Oh cool, an anime! Let's see what that's like", resist. Be strong! It was so crap :/

Saturday played a hockey match against Durbanville. Beat them 4-3, despite them playing like cunts and having a fucking dodgy referee on their side (and yes, I do mean on their side). We certainly weren't playing cleanly, but they got what they deserved. That evening Dave and Jim came over and we watched some weird Joy Division docu-drama movie .]] Was fairly interesting, but not really what I was expecting or wanting.

Sunday was father's day, so I went thru to my parents for lunch. Was nice, Spanish Chicken apparently, very tasty. Sunday evening went over to Al's to watch GP (looooads of smashes and another DQ for Montya <chortle>) and then some of the football (Spain vs Portugal).

Monday night just stayed at home and watched some TV then did the dishes and tidied a bit. Last night was roleplaying, and Binky killed us all! Man. I don't think our 'stupidity' (as he put it) was worth that much frankly. Oh well, new cooler characters to be created now!

Magic tonight, haven't played in ages, looking forward to it :)

  • Well I thought Memories was cool, especially the first of the three shorts. So there. - ElfBoy
  • somewhat like Kill Bill, apparently there're a lot of references to get to "appreciate" Memories - corner shathley and ask him - there's the godfather of manga (dead) and the young upstart of manga (now an old man), and the upstart was the one who did Memories, which has similarities to his other great work, Akira - also a bunch of mythology stuff - d@vid June 24 2004

Went to parentals last night for laundry... um, I mean dinner and a visit, spent most of the evening dialed up and continuing the slow, painful windows update process. I think their machine is mostly updated, now all they need is a current anti virus package :/ Unfortunately that won't be quite as free. Oh, it would also help if they upgraded away from WinME?.

Colleen was feeling very ill last night when we left, in lots of pain, so we went thru to Claremont Mediclinic (the 24hr one). Turns out she had a bladder infection, not cool :/ Painkillers and antibiotics seem to have sorted her out now tho, so that's a relief.

Freaky interlude: While I was waiting at the mediclinic, ]] was on TV and the nurses were watching it. We got to the bit where ]] is giving this dude a blowjob and gets his piercing stuck behind her tonsils. The nurses look at each other and say 'Oh, we haven't got one of those yet', then look at me laughing and say 'We've got lots of strange ones, you wouldn't believe, but nothing quite like that'. They didn't elaborate, and I didn't want them to, but it seems like it's not quite as boring as it might seem working at a 24hr mediclinic. Disturbing.

In other news, I made my first contribution to ,]] in the form of a ]] to ]] that got modded up to 4 (5 now, thanks to Mark). They like me!

Tuesday night we started our D&D3.5 campaign with Binky. Alex's playing an ogre barbarian, James a werewolf cleric, Toby an elf fighter/rogue and myself a tiefling rogue. Did character creation (my first time for 3.x, so it was slow going) and then played one encounter, which was pretty cool. Very wargamesque, but fun. Only finished at like 3am.

Yesterday (being a public holiday) I lazed around in the morning with Colleen, eating pizza for breakfast/lunch, tasty. Rock and Roll from St Elmos is great (bacon/avo). Then Dave came around for Magic and we played while Colleen slept. John phoned that evening to say that he was playing soccer with some friends at Kopano, would I like to come along, so Dave and I went to kick a soccer ball around a bit. Was fun, haven't played soccer in years. Then Jim and Dave came over to our place to watch ,]] which is a weird film about the early punk scene. Very weird, more of a documentary than anything else.

15 June 2004

Chris' birthday last night, sooo much fun. Started off with dinner at Da Vinci's (a pizza place in Claremont) and really good pizza, then off to Oblivion to play some 30 seconds and drink Stu and I 0wned). After that we went thru to Lizzards, but all the pool tables were taken so we just played some fussball (sp?). A great night, loads of fun and it certainly looked like Chris enjoyed himself :P

Weekend was cool and busy again, what with frisbee, F1, the soccer, Stu's outing to Springboks (r0xx0red), watching Harry Potter (soooooooo shiny!!! Hermione is super cute and cuddly ^_^), visiting Jim, and Alex's bday thingy. Okay, after remembering what I did (harder than you might think), I've decided to say a little more on some of them.

Harry Potter was very shiny :) I loved it. Buckbeak is especially well done, nice cross between horse and eagle in terms of mannerisms. Lupin in Crinos form was pretty weird for a werewolf, certainly not classic, but it did make him a lot more sinister than a standard shaggy man-wolf, and also differentiated between him and Sirius. The only problem is that we decided to go to a Saturday afternoon show. Of an ostensibly kiddie show. Bad move. The cinema was packed with the little brats, some of which were well behaved (the ones behind us), and others which soooooo needed a fat smack (the ones everywhere else around us). I managed to ignore it mostly, and it didn't spoil the movie or anything (movies are loud).

Alex's bday thingy on Sat night was awesome, although the absolute height of geekdom. Anyone other than the people who were there would have been bored shitless. Lots of roleplaying talk, playing of 30 Seconds and Dork Tower, and drinking of lime and coconut (and lets not forget the vodka and salt, both present in almost equal quantities to the lime and coconut). Was awesome ^_^

F1: Sucks to be Williams!
Soccer: Sucks to be England!

And w00t! Jim invited me onto GMail?, the premiere of web mail services. I am s00per st0ked!!!11!1!!!3!

10 June 2004

Went to Chai Yo last night. They are sooo cool. I love Thai food :) Went for a hot green curry, was maybe a little too hot with large slices of chilli in, but it was so good anyway :) Their starter sauces are amazing (peanut, plum, sweet chilli and the other one), but the cook seemed very reluctant to give us the recipes :( Selfish bastard. Had fried banana and ice cream for pudding. So all good :) Then went home and collapsed due to too full tummy, so I am actually well rested today :) Makes for a change.

Happy BDay? to Alex for Sunday, you never let us know in advance :/ I woulda smsed, or at least said something on Tuesday, but noooooooo...

9 June 2004

Roleplaying last night saw the end of our Vampire campaign, with Alex and James both getting dusted, and Toby and I mostly winning against the bad guys (I think). Next week we start a D&D 3.5 game, something I've wanted to do for a long time :) Should be fun. We'll be playing Blah Evil characters in Forgotten Realms. Now all I need to do is find out how 3.5 works...

8 June 2004

Yay, Colleen working from home today, means I get to take the car to work ^_^ w00t.

In other news, the Venus transit was pretty cool (from a webcam point of view). Here are two pics, one in the middle and one right at the end, taken from some Spanish observatory.

Whatever, it won't display the pictures so just follow the links. Ah, as I suddenly work it out. It won't display the pictures inline, since it is a php page that displays a picture, rather than a direct picture link itself. Cunning.

7 June 2004

Wyrd Sisters on Friday night was okay. It was fairly amateurish (since it was an amateur production), and nothing actually wrong, it was just a little boring and had a fairly obvious Afrikaans undertone to all the (apparently English) accents. Afterwards, Seaward and Sharpe and I went out for drinks at The One Ring, chatted with Lucas and Claire and Greg for a while, then went back home and chatted and played a bit of ]] (a little PC puzzle game similar to Bejewelled).

Saturday] morning tried to organise the Grand Opening (our ]] box arrived), but Waynne was busy, so we organised it for the evening after the ]] Shire Birthday event. Went to the gym instead and played squash with Jim. Was a cool game, and I felt fine afterwards, but my right gluteous is damn sore right now. All the bending, causes pain. Went home and got ready for the ]] event (technically started at 2, but it was raining like a mad mother, so I didn't think they would have the heavy combat tourney. Turns out they just moved it indoors). Only ended up going at around 4, just in time for the final between My Lord Berthold and My Lord Guntram (as expected, I suppose :P). The food was really good, and there was lots of it :P Props to all the cooks. I left early to meet Waynne and Jim at home, and we proceeded with the ripping open of many booster packs. Got some cool stuff, made some trades, and now I have a brand spanky new deck for the first time since .]] Graveyard artifact recursion like a mad mother, works great. Best moment: ]] Jim's ]] and using it on him :P

Frisbee in the occasional rain Sun morning. Lowish turnout (people have gone home for the varsity hols), and three people ended up injured. Jim had a sore calf muscle from squash which was forcing him to run funny and wrench his knee, John fell over and rolled over his own hand spraining his thumb, and Dave sprained his ankle by running into Waynne. After frisbee I decided to go thru and visit some of the cripples at Sandown Grange, and ended up playing some more ]] with Jim.

That evening Colleen and I went thru to Julie and Al's for a roast, was great lamb and potatoes and peas and carrots :) Classic roast, was awesome. Tx a lot ^_^

  • Edit:* Oh yeah, I forgot about the drama on Saturday night (well, 3am). Dave and I are playing ,]] and we hear this scream from outside (but pretty close by), so we go outside to take a look. There's this dude standing downstairs, and he puts his hood up and walks away very fast. Then this chick comes upstairs with an indian dude, and the chick's all crying and stuff. Turns out the dude (her boyfriend or ex-b/f or something like that) lives next door, and for a slightly garbled reason (something about another chick maybe?) decided it would be a good idea to smack this girl around a bit. Nice. So we get some cotton wool and disinfectant and a plaster to patch up her elbow where she fell, and try calm her down a little (she was understandably not so happy). The indian guy (I forget his name now) eventually persuaded her to let him take her home (she wanted to hang around and wait for her assailant, presumably to have a word with him). Cops were called, thanks to a friend of mine in #4 who saw some of the 'action', so hopefully he will be sorted out :/

4 June 2004

Tuesday night recieved my ]] from http://www.go-opensource.org. Seems pretty cool, wanna learn .]] A whackload cheaper that ,]] that's for sure.

Yesterday stayed home. Stu came over and visited after his exam and we chatted for a bit, then he borrowed ]] so they could LAN at work that afternoon - tough life that.

Had the DriveToIcon meeting in the evening, I think everything important got sorted out which is great. I'll post the results on the DriveToIcon page in a moment. See, not so difficult to organise a meeting ;)

Afterwards, Dave came over to play some ,]] and my rebuilt Affinity deck (complete with -]] damn banned ]] :/ Wankers) was stomping :P We decided to get ]] and watch that, was okay, pretty freaky, very confusing.

Yay :P Wyrd Sisters tonight :P And ]] bday this Saturday. Should be cool.

2 June 2004

Ah, that archivy time of the month again...

Monday night went out with Julie and Al and Jim for dinner at Oblivion. Quite a nice place, good food although Julie's and my burgers were totally cold :/ Man, the eye-candy there was amazing. On a Monday night. The thought of the weekend frightens me... Al said that his boss goes there all the time for drinks, and now we know why. Some dude I knew was working there as a bartender. It's always awkward having someone you know serve you :/ Then we went back to Julie's for tea and a bit of chat. A nice evening :) Tx for the dinner Al ^_^

Last night had roleplaying, was really cool. So very very hectic from a combat front, with us fighting the hugest demon ever. I managed to come away totally unscathed thanks to Fortitude 3, great Dex/Dodge and a Nomex suit (for the fire breath - not nice). Toby got incapacitated and Alex got Torpored... Heavy shit.

31 May 2004

Magic on Thurs was cool. Hordes of people arrived, but not everyone stayed for all that long. Jim and Philip both left pretty early. Turns out Ada is collecting Rebecca Guay cards, one of the artists I collect. I've been going thru my cards and pulling out any of hers that I do have. Not very many, but better than none :P I'll pass them on once I've gone thru everything. Colleen got Once Upon A Time In Mexico, and the Magic evening degenerated (or regenerated maybe, depending on your point of view) into a movie evening :P

Friday night tried to organise ppl to come out for dinner, but for various reasons most ppl refused. Ended up with just us and Waynne and Jean going to Kingswood for dinner. Had the set menu for 4 ppl, really tasty and really good value for money :) Then went home and watched Helen of Troy. It was more of a compressed history lesson than an entertaining movie tho, but I'm glad I watched it to get the story straight.

Saturday morning went thru to Plumstead to LAN. Didn't get much playing done, a couple of rounds of UT2004? Onslaught, and then some single player Sacred and some puzzlers. Overclocked my GFX card, so now it runs a little better :P Who'da thunk a Geforce 1 would run UT2004? :P I really need a new card tho, one with TV-out so I can watch stuff on our new TV. Kicks the pants off our teeny monitor. Came home early to help Colleen make sushi for dinner. Karen and Yolande came over that evening (ostensibly for Mah Jongg, but they were suddenly very unkeen for that, and we just sat around chatting and drinking). Dave come over with some butterscotch Nordic Ice, bless his little heart. Yolande was completely wasted at this point (she had been drinking all day in Paarl already), and was completely hilarious. Eventually we decided to go to Stones in Obs (I drove) to play some pool. Was pretty cool, hadn't played pool in ages.

Sunday, frisbee as usual, was cool. GP again this week (no break), not all that exciting again, mostly chatted and watched in the background. Went home and watched some TV, then went thru to Philip's to test some PC components to build a replacement system for him since the old one got stolen :/ Then home again to play on the PC and watch Witches of Eastwick. Then sleep.

29 May 2004

Nerd Test results: 57.142857142857146%. I bailed on a lot of the literature and TV questions (TV cos I haven't had one for ages and don't like Trek, lit bcos I don't read the classic nerd books). Colleen got 30.952380952380953%.

  • at last, somebody nerdier than me! (by 2.3809523809523809523809523809524%) - I still need to get 'deeb to take this - "Oh man....what If Supes was colorblind how would he know??" - d@vid May 31 2004

27 May 2004

Magic tonight for all interested. Hopefully Ada will join us for a bit of schoolage... erm, I mean tuition, and to rifle thru my old cards for things she wants. She's also collecting an artist :) See, I'm not the only freak around. Hope she's not collecting the same artist as I am... could lead to tension. Now to phone Jim and Ryan... d@vid if you read this, you and Tim are welcome.

26 May 2004

Hey, cool, ]] just launched a Fax2Email? service, so it looks like I might keep using my account for a bit longer. For all you hordes wanting to fax me, my personal number is 086 650 0231.

24 May 2004

Friday evening went to go see ]] with Waynne and Jim. Waynne really enjoyed it, but the rest of us thought it was long and boring, with the occasional cool bits (Brad Pitt in a leather miniskirt obviously being a female highlight, and not so important to the guys). Penny Arcade have ]] of the ]] movie. I wanna get ]] now, cos Si said it was pretty cool and better than Troy.

After] that, Colleen went thru to Stones to meet up with Dave and Karen, and I went to Cool Runnings to meet up with some IRC ppl. We all went to Gandalf's later, but the new female DJ is far too into thrash. Even when she did play bands that I recognised, she didn't play the songs that I recognised, so it kinda sucked. I just got all smoky and bored and tired, and then went home.

Saturday had to wake up early for the Magic prerelease tournament. I had very blocked sinuses, thanks to the smoke the previous night. The tournament itself was pretty cool, and I was mostly happy with what I did, barring a few deckbuilding mistakes that I spotted when going thru my cards later that day. Dave came 5th and won a booster, so that was pretty cool :) I came 8th (I think), so not too bad (there were about 30-something ppl there, I would estimate). Got a few cool cards out of it, but as Waynne said, nothing wow.

Had ppl round for movies Sat night, Jim brought his DVD player but we didn't use it cos Rondebosch cafe and video was swarming with ppl around the DVD section. It is really badly laid-out, designed with maximum congestion in mind, I think. We got ]] and ]] on VHS instead. HH was bad, really boring. JE was pretty funny, very much a mix of Mr Bean, Thin Blue Line and Black Adder. Julie rocked up halfway thru HH (I think), and Al and her went home before JE. Stu hung around and chatted for a while after both movies, which was cool.

Woke up with difficulty on Sunday morning for frisbee. Decided (unwisely) to stop at Silwood cafe for some food, which delayed me about 20 minutes. It was a little windy, but we moved a field down from last week, and it was really nicely sheltered by trees. Large turnout, 13 ppl, although a lot of them are still n00bs, which makes it a little frstrating at times. Was a good game nonetheless. Then went thru to Al's to watch the GP.

Michael did not win this time, thanks to some hot tunnel action. Not a very exciting race, racing wise, but a lot of crashes and upset ppl, included a flipped car. Doesn't happen very often. Watched some TV and played some Sacred last night, then went to sleep.

20 May 2004

Cool evening last night, went to the Hussar Grill for Waynne's birthday with Al, Jim and Richard. Great food, and they have the most amazing special on - calamari or salad starter, rump or sirloin with chips /potatoes/rice and veggies and a malva pudding, for only R80! Colleen and I both had that, it was great! Had fun chatting to ppl about stuff.

Re: GitS?:SAC, there are sufficient reasons for me not to run it this Sunday, so it will be postponed for at least two weeks (next w/e I LAN). However, looking in my diary I see that SCA Cowshed is the week after that :/ Fsck, so I'll run it sometime... stay tuned for updates, or just bitch at me occasionally to make sure I don't forget.

19 May 2004

Yay! Colleen went and bought the TV we were intending to buy this weekend yesterday. It's huuuuge! 74cm super-flat Telefunken... so shiny. I'm intending on using it as a monitor for watching anime from the PC (when I eventually get a new GFX card), whereas Colleen is actually intending to use it to watch TV. Videos would be cool too, but I would rather hook the PC up and run on DVDs.

Roleplaying last night was cool :) We got given free stuff by the prince cos we are helping the city out so much (hunting and killing renegade vampires).

Damnit, trying to finish all the cases on CSI 100% so I can get to the bonus material, but it's fscking hard. I keep getting 96% and 94%... must maybe just cave and find a trainer for it.

I am intending on screening Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex at some point soon, now that I have a TV :) Who would be interested in attending, possibly this Sunday? Running time is about 10 hours (26 episodes at about 22 minutes each) excluding any breaks. What would preferred start and end times be? I'm not available this Saturday or next weekend at all, so it's this Sunday or 3 weeks time.

OK... I would love to come, but I have a few words of advice (from someone who has run two "Watch TV episodes all day" days): 26 episodes at 22 minutes each is about 9.5 hours. Add to that 15-20 minutes for each break, which should come at the end of every three episodes (1 hour per viewing streach works best), adds another 2 - 2.5 hours. Add to that an extra 30 minutes for the supper break (even if you just order pizzas, there are quite a few breaks when you order, and it arrives, etc. If people go out to get take-out, it might be longer). So you are looking at about 12 hours of people being at your house... If you start at noon (and you can sometimes add an entire hour just waiting for people to arrive), that means it ends in the wee hours of Monday morning... Which is why I normally run these things on a Saturday night. Having said all that, I still want to come, even if it is on a Sunday... just not this Sunday, as the Vampire LARP is going to be run on the Saturday night, and I have no idea when it (or it's aftermath) will end. So I would vote for the weekend after next weekend (ie 6th of June). Just my 2c... - ShadowsLight
This Sunday is good for us but we don't mind waiting for another weekend. - ElfBoy and MyrdemInggala

Edit: Language horrors
At the Spar deli section - a tub of gherkins, labelled 'Gercons' gfunk over at Red vs Blue - "Secondly (is that even a word?),..."

18 May 2004

Okay, 2 stories to amuse and horrify you (in that order). Firstly, one from my co-worker about his blind date this weekend...

Okay, so my co-worker has broken up with his previous girlfriend, and a friend of his decides to set him up on a blind date (the friend knows both of them, so presumably he thinks there is some hope of a match). They organise the meeting, but she asks if she can bring a girlfriend along. Blind date, anxieties are inevitable, and you can hardly say no anyway. So anyway, they go on this 'date', and she turns out to be using the term 'girlfriend' quite literally... and in the carnal sense. Turns out the chick is lesbian, and only agreed to the date so that the mutual friend wouldn't find out she was gay. Swak!!!

And now to horrify you... We're setting up this laptop for a client, and it's a really sweet laptop... amazing screen, DVD burner, all the bells and whistles. Expensive too. So, the guy comes in to pick it up. The conversation goes along these lines:

Boss: It has a CD writer as well
Client: Oh... so that's not the same as a burner then?
Boss: <blink blink> No no, it is. It also burns DVDs as well
Client: Oh good, so I can put my photos on disc then?
SynKronos: <pictures the client burning 3 pictures onto a DVD>
Boss: Yes, but a DVD holds a lot more than a CD
<Time passes> Boss: We're just updating the Antivirus at the moment Client: What's that? Entire office: <stunned silence>
<Time passes> Client: What's that? <points just below keyboard> Boss: That's the touch pad. It's used to move your pointer around the screen. See, like this Client: Wow
<Time passes> Boss: <goes on about how cool the laptop is> Client: Will it make my internet banking faster? SynKronos: <strangled laughter in background> Boss: <stunned silence (again)> Erm... it depends on your connection... Client: ABSA Boss: No, then it will be pretty slow still Co-worker: <explains about different kinds of connections> Client: <blank stare>
<Time passes> Client: <makes disparaging remarks about his computer knowledge> Should I take a course or something? Boss: No no, just play around. You can't really break it SynKronos: <tries not to burst out laughing> Co-workers: <exchange meaningful looks> Boss: And if you do, you can always bring it back to us to fix <grin>

We were trying so hard not to laugh in his face. I was certainly thinking up ways to swap the crappy laptop we have in the office for his one, since he certainly wouldn't know the difference... 'Oh no, sir, that was just the demo model. No no, the scuffs and grime are there to give you street cred, y'know, like the spray on mud for the 4x4s'

Meh :/ Sacrilege!

17 May 2004

Okay, now to remember what I did this weekend...

Ah yes. My CSI game (the one that I won on )]] arrived on Thursday, so we decided to go to my parents for dinner and to pick it up. Spend the evening trying to secure my parents PC. Unfortunately, they go thru MWeb? (the one true evil), and so were connecting at 32kb/s... these are dark ages speeds were talking here. So, there I sit, trying to do an online virus scan thru Trend Micro and load the 22 missing Critical updates and service packs that my parents ME (yes, ME) install requires, and thinking about how many viruses have been knocking around since their Anti-virus update subscription ran out in January this year. No wonder they've been complaining about the machine getting slower and slower. No surprise, I didn't get much done, so I left it going overnight and told my mom to switch off the machine before 7am the next morning. I'll have a go at it next time I'm there, I suppose :/

Friday night Colleen and I spent the evening playing CSI. It's a really cool game, has a very old sk00l quest game feel. We played for about 4 hours straight, which got us a little under halfway. Saturday we continued playing and managed to finish it. Not a very long game, but now I'm trying to do all the cases 100% to get to the bonus material. It's pretty hard to do, let me tell you.

Saturday's hockey match was pretty shyte. We played against UCT and lost 4-0, thanks largely to the fact that the keeper and I seemed to be the only players defending, even when there were 4 opponents attacking. I just stopped caring about the goals and stopped trying to get my players to mark, because it was pointless.

Saturday night was great :) Sushi at Julie and Al's with Waynne and Jean and Jim, Colleen and I made spring rolls and brought them along for starters. Very tasty, but they unfortunately got a little soggy on the way over (they were freshly made and hence very hot, so I think they steamed each other into sogginess - perhaps a tray rather than a container for transport next time). Loads of sushi was made, including some with black rice, which was actually weird and purple, but tasty nonetheless. Then we went off to Springboks, which was pretty boring, although it did have a lot of eye-candy lounging around and shaking it on the dancefloor. Jim got more wasted than I have seen him before (which is quite impressive - I have seen him pretty damn wasted). He and Julie disappeared for about an hour at one point, unfortunately just as Colleen and Jean decided it was hometime, so we had to sit and wait for them, and then eventually call them. They had apparently gone looking for fresh air and food, but had failed on the food quest (despite there being a boerewors roll stand right next to the exit... they were both pretty drunk, but it was still rather blatant). They persuaded Colleen and I to come back to Julie's place for coffee for a little bit, where Al promptly opened another bottle of wine and started passing it around. We eventually got home at about 4:30, leaving me with 6 hours sleep before frisbee the next day.

Frisbee was cool, I think playing on the Rondebosch fields is a better idea, although it was a pretty calm day anyway. Soooooooo hot! Thank god there was a tap next to the field, meant we all took regular small water breaks, and I think everyone felt better for it. The two n00bs that John brought with were surprisingly good at throwing and catching, although they did make the standard n00b mistakes of misjudging the frisbee and throwing a little too high. They'll get better tho :) Jim, amazingly, did rock up, but then proceeded to lie on the side of the field for about the first hour. He did not look happy.

Last night we watched movies with Dave, ]] and .]] THC was pretty funny, standard Rob Schneider, but 40d&n was pretty lame. Standard Romcom, including all the soppy, lame and predictable bits.

Aside: I can't believe Waynne has a ]] account :/ He's prolly not even using it much. Bastard :/ -jealous-

13 May 2004

Seems like all I do is warn you guys off movies :/ Ah well, public service of sorts, I suppose.

Anyway, last night Jim came over for dinner (Thai green curry, very tasty) and movies. We watched Gothika first (which I thought was very scary and very well done - recommended, if you don't freak all the time like me), and then made the mistake of thinking, well, Jack Black can't be that bad, can he? We were wrong. School of Rock is awful. I was so bored during it, I thought I would cry. Anyway, we slogged thru it, and then I deleted it. Problem solved!

Eh, I've decided that the horse in Sacred is actually a crock of shit. It halves your combat effectiveness, and then halves it again just due to interface stickiness (you end up running around monsters three times before it registers an attack click). So, this would seem to imply that you just use the horse for transport then, and simply hop off for combat, right? Wrong! There is no true dismount shortcut key, the alleged shortcut being to Shift-Left click on your horse. The problem is (problems are?) that it's a very small area you're aiming at, and it also refuses to register the dismount shortcut command if an enemy is too close (where too close is up to half a screen away). Instead, it makes your horse walk really slowly. I can picture it now... Oh god! Enemies! Quick, Binky, amble slowly over there! Anyway, instead of going through all that (or clicking on the insanely tiny dismount button next to your portrait), my Seraphim is just hoofing it around on her own steam. Makes for a more pleasant gaming experience all round. I far prefer the Seraphim anyway, there's more depth to her than the Vampiress' hack 'n slash. Strength of Faith rocks :) And I glow blue, making my model look shinier than it already is ^_^

Moved a comment by GoldenAngel that contained MAJOR spoilers for Gothika to GoldenComments - ShadowsLight
I know I promised I would never edit anyone's comments on the wiki again, but I feel that in this case I had to act. I am all for telling people about a movie but I feel it is unfair to give away major plot points without at least giving a SPOILER heading. So I left the comment intact, I just moved it to a new page, so those who have not seen Gothika can choose NOT to read the comment. No matter how much you hated a movie, posting a comment that is essentially "I can not believe that the Butler did it! How obvious!" is just not fair to those who have not seen the movie. Not that I disagreed with your comments... because actually I agree with everything you said... just post a SPOILER warning next time...
Oh, and J, I totally agree with you about School of Rock as well. Crap flick... the butler did it ;-) -ShadowsLight

Okay, another word of warning - don't watch City of the Lost Children unless you're a huge fan of completely nonsensical French shyte. And awful dubbing if you get the English dubbed version. The scenery is pretty cool, Steam-punky. But not enough to save it. Dave came and watched it with us last night, and we were all like WTF!!!! the whole movie.

Magic tonight :) Yay. Chobits! Yay. Very cool, getting freaky weird. I should expect this whenever I hit the midpoint of an anime series.

5 May 2004

There's the coolest jumping spider running up and down my two monitors, very cute :)

Roleplaying last night was awesome. We had the most massive combat sessions, was great. I managed to pick up 2 free points in both Potence and Fortitude, James managed to grab 4 (!!!) points of Auspex, and last time Alex dropped a gen. So Toby's the only odd one out :P Shame. Although binky might just fuck us for it somehow. That's just how he is :/

Chobits is so cool. Anyone who hasn't watched it, should.

3 May 2004

Pretty cool weekend. Did some stuff on Friday, I forget exactly what, I'm sure it was cool tho. Hockey on Sat was cool too, we won 3-1, and I scored 2 of the goals :) Go me. That evening we went with Julie, Al, Waynne, Jean and Jim to Grand West, where everyone who played got pantsed horribly. So Jim, Jean and I were the only ones to escape unscathed. Sunday frisbee, then went to Jo and Philips for dinner and Mah Jongg. Kewl :)

Edit:

26 April 2004

On Friday, Sed had a little bday celebration at Banana Jam, and yet again I could only get there in time to get one cocktail on special, but it was pretty fun anyway :) Caroline brought some nougat that was quite frightening, looked like you could get stuck in it and die preserved, like the peat bogs. That being said, it wasn't all that bad, although it was hellishly sweet. Then Colleen and I went thru to Al and Julies and sat around chatting for a while (we might have watched a movie to, I forget). Then Colleen and Julie went to La Med, and Al and I sat around and chatted for some more. Eventually I went home and played some Sacred until Colleen came home.

Saturday went thru to OuterLimits to help Philip with his PC woes. It turns out that, if you bump the PC that they record all their transactions on, it freezes. And I'm talking bump even slightly here. So I took the entire machine apart to clean it out and see what is wrong. In the process I discover why the FDD didn't work - the data cable wasn't plugged in. Since there wasn't a spare cable anywhere around, I disconnected it. I also discovered why the machine was freezing - there were a couple of (copper and hence conductive) spacers underneath the mobo where there should not have been (obviously the case has spacer holes designed for a couple of different mobos), and so every time you bumped it, it was shorting the mobo onto the case - nice and safe. So I removed the excess ones, threw away the stripped ones, and rebuild it so that it wasn't shorting all the time. Excellent. Then I went back to the backup machine that Philip wants build, and now it won't boot :/ And I have no reason why. Oh well, I guess I'll re-reinstall that sometime.

we had an amusingly similar-yet-wholly-different situation at work recently. our manager's system kept rebooting every few minutes so, suspecting bad ram, he opened it up to discover a motherfucker of a parktown prawn stuck across the motherboard. at least it was already dead. -- thePeanutGallery

Had a hockey match on Saturday afternoon against Langa (they're pretty notorious for foul play and generally being cunts). Turns out the team I am in is full of little 14 year olds. Well, maybe not quite 14, but the are mostly tiny school kiddies. Fortunately it was a pretty clean game (except for a few incidents, like a Langa dude taking a massive swing at the ball when one of our lighties was hassling him, and connecting him hard and on purpose. Unfortunately the lighty was on the wrong side, so his fault really, even tho the Langa dude was being a wanker). We played pretty damn well, and ended up whipping them 4-1 :) All good.

That evening was Julie and Al's housewarming. Got there a little late (it was supposed to start at 4pm, and my hockey only started at 3:15), but still didn't miss out on the excellent food that was provided :) Loads of booze too. Was great fun all in all.

Sunday morning was frisbee at 11. Al was looking (and sounding) very much worse for wear, but we all had a good game, and was great fun. Then we had to rush back home to shower so we could get back in time for the GP. Fortunately I had told people that it was starting at 1:30, but actually the coverage was starting at 1:30, so we all got there in time :) Aren't I clever. Julie made stirfry for us all, and Jim brought muffins. All good :) The race was okay, not all that eventful except for the start. Montoya is such a whiny bitch, and was complaining about how mean Michael was to him at the start. It's called racing, boy, and I think if you check the rules you'll find that Michael was in the right. So stfu and race, or get out the kitchen.

Watched ]] last night on Chelle's recommendation. I didn't enjoy it as much as she did, but it certainly wasn't a waste. Was okay shrug

23 April 2004

Don't watch .]] It's awful. The moose are at least funny tho.

22 April 2004

Very cool evening last night :) Went out to Panchos with Robyn, Shelagh, Gareth, Steve and Janet (hmmmm... chicken Nachos... we all had :/ Was a bit silly, really :P But they're good) since Robyn is leaving for UK soon :( Went to Stones afterwards for some pool where Sed and Dave joined us. Only Shelagh, Colleen and Sed were any good tho, the rest of us seemed not to be in top form :P Also got donated all of Robyn's Super Manga Blasts - go me! Thanks a lot Robyn ^_^ They will be well read and well looked after.

Roleplaying on Tuesday was very cool :) We went in to take on some Tremere, and were very scared, but so far it's going well :) We've taken out a blood brother, partially because one of them decided to Theft of Vitae me (an Assamite, and hence my blood is poisonous to other vampires) for 6 points of Werewolf blood that I had obtained ages ago, and dusted himself and frenzied me in the process, and partially because Toby's character (a Brujah) frenzied right from the very beginning, and was laying out some beatdown. Alex then proceded to diablerise the thing, and in doing so went down a generation and got dots in Necromancy and Thaumaturgy (as well as a dot each in Path of Weather Control and Path of Flame... like wtf!). Great, but I can see Alan using this fairly harshly against us... that's just how he is. Anyway, we'll see what kind of shit it causes next week, I'm sure.

19 April 2004

Friday went to a housewarming at a house next to my block of flats. Was okay, but most ppl there were complete jocks. Did meet up with some dude I went to junior school with and chatted to him for a little bit, then chatted to the one chick who lives there (the one out of the three occupants that I didn't know), then got bored and went home (just walking upstairs, how handy :P).

Saturday had a driving lesson, then went off to LAN. Got a couple of movies (Brother Bear amongst them) and games (UT2K4? and Sacred mainly), and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. I'll be organising a viewing of it sometime. We mostly played UT2K4? in Assault and Onslaught modes, us vs bots. Really cool, one of the few FPSes? where multiplaying vs bots is amazingly fun. They also played a lot of Call of Duty, but I got bored of this and so played Sacred single player instead.

Sunday slept until 1pm, then went thru to Al?'s for pancakes and movies. We took Bad Boys 2 and Basic along (which both Julie and Al? had seen), so Colleen and I watched Basic while they did something else (I think Julie slept). Julie joined us for BB2?, and Al joined in about 45 minutes in. Then we watched Bad Company on MNet? (which ironically they had not seen but I had :P). Tx to Al? for feeding us :) Very nice chicken pasta in a cream sauce.

Ryan: Afraid I won't be able to make it this week either, Jason. I forgot it's my brother's 21st on Thursday which means I'm going to have to attend some sort of dinner.

15 April 2004

A mini weekend. Very refreshing :) Except that I am tired :P Ah well.

Tuesday night had Dave over to watch movies, Sinbad and Gosford Park. Sinbad was okay, entertaining, but I thought the CG was mostly pretty crap. Gosford Park was great :) Awesome stiff upper lip aristocracy shenanigins, hilarious. And really convoluted :P

Yesterday reinstalled Win2K?. Oh, the joy. Mostly up and running again tho. Diablo installed, which is the important thing :P Then went to Dave's to watch The Guru and Treasure Planet with him and Ross. The Guru is kak funny, but wrong, in a Sorority Boys kinda way, but funnier and less extremely wrong. Jim joined us just before Treasure Planet, which was very cool as well. I really enjoyed the Sci-Fi adaptations of the pirate theme, like his pegleg and his parrot (Morph, the blob). Went home and played Arcanum with Colleen til 2am, hence the tiredness now. Arcanum seems pretty cool, only just got into it tho. Magic tonight :) And a housewarming tomorrow night. Then a LAN on Sat. Sounds like a great weekend coming up. Anyone interested in LANing? is welcome, just contact me for details.

13 April 2004

Seems almost everyone has the day off today. A lot of things are deserted, not least of which is work and #claws. Meh :/ Motivation -> zero. Maybe I'll watch some anime.

Long weekend was mostly awesome. Thursday was Panchos with ppl. Damn, those starter platters are damn fine. Had a great time with lots of ppl, then off to Cool Runnings for cocktails and dodgy convos. Karen, Colleen's sister, had a cup of coffee just before she left to go home (to keep her awake for the drive to Clovelly, apparently), and then apparently couldn't get to sleep until about 5am :P Unlucky.

Friday went to the Design for Living. Pretty disappointing. There was nothing innovative or cool, it was all mostly Verimark or Glomail type stuff. Had a bit of fun wandering around tho with Jim and Dave (who we had to go fetch cos both their cars died, and it was raining so no bike action). Afterwards they came back to our place for supper and Mah Jongg. Jim and Colleen did pretty well, I did quite badly, and Dave's performance was atrocious :P But fun nonetheless.

Saturday was my birthday party day, so there was much preparation and making of quiches and shopping. The evening was loads of fun :) Thanks to everyone who came, and thanks to all of those who participated in either of the 2 present conspiracies. PCFormat? subscription, very cool, and a squash racquet, which I will test out on Stu at the earliest opportunity (or someone else, if they are keen and available sooner).

Sunday (being my actual bday, and easter to boot) saw me at my parents for a fairly arb day of food and chocolate, along with much parent and grandparent interaction. Topics of conversation included my two grandmothers sharing tales of their local Agricultural Society shows. I shit you not.

That evening we went to Si's for sushi. Very tasty. Then played a game of 'Pass the Brains' before going home cos Colleen had a headache.

Monday morning we went to the gym with Stu who was unfortunately feeling sick, and so didn't join in on much in the way of exercise. Went home and lazed around a bit (well, actually tried to get office working on the PC, which now seems pretty borked), then went to Orca in Melkbos for lunch with Colleen's family. The seafood platter there is really nice. And huge. Great stuff :) Then we went thru to Julie and Al's for a braai (no food for us, tx!) and lazing around, then home for sleep, cos I have fscking work the next day :( Suxx0r.

8 April 2004

Cool, finally wiki access again :)

Well, seems like I was fooled by the Blizzard updates. Both of the ones I mentioned below were, in fact, April Fools. The fuckers. A new hero in WC3? would have roxx0red :/

Yay! Almost long weekend. Just a few more hours. Gotta try finish the work we have atm, so that we can maybe get Tuesday off as well. 6 days! Maybe.

Been looking after Al's new kitten, Newton, cos he was sick (and Julie didn't want the other cats to get infected). He's really cute and tiny, Colleen has been loving this :) Although she has been missing out on sleep, cos he comes and sleeps with her in the mornings, and she lies awake. I just sleep through anything, so it's fine.

Dave's braai/party last weekend was really cool, had a lot of fun. Tx Dave!

Oh, and for those of you who missed it - Limp Bizkit are idiots. They will never be welcome in South Africa ever again.

2 April 2004

What's with the weather, god dammit? Yesterday massive thunderstorm, rain, thunder, lightning, and then clear blue skies and the hottest day in a while. Then this morning thick mist, again fading to a very hot day. Damn these long pants :/

Blizzard are so cool :) They always add new content to their games after the fact, makes me happy. Their latest gem is the addition of the ]] to the Neutral heroes in Warcraft 3. With super transform mecha move, and rockets! Yay, rockets in warcraft! They also seem to have gone mad, and are letting .]] This will cause problems, I think, since it relies on someone elses maturity for your enjoyment. Always a bad assumption on the net.

Magic last night was okay, nothing too special. Thanks to Waynne for bringing along KFC :P Yummy.

Fuck Limp Bizkit. Fuck them in their big gay asses. They will never be able to organise another concert in SA ever again. Ticket sales will total zero until people have actually seen footage of Fred arriving in SA and being locked up in the concert venue. And even then, I reckon most ppl will buy tickets at the door, just in case he pulls a third fast one.

Oh, and I take a small portion of what I said yesterday re: April Fools back. ]] did a ]] spoof page (Furry Arcade) that was quite inspired :P

how about a direct link to that page then? inspired as it may be, i don't want to have to sift through all the usual rubbish to find it. -- YouKnowWho?
]] ya go. It's the first link on the ]] page, the big bold blue April Fools link :P The PA news page that was spoofed is ]] -- SynKronos

1 April 2004

My sweet fuck, I hate April Fools. Half the web is useless, and they're not even funny. Nobody better play anything on me, or there will be bloodshed.

On a lighter note, happy birthday to Dave Sharpe for yesterday. We went to Banana Jam for cocktails (the burgers there are pretty damn fine, especially the onion rings), and then Colleen and I went back to Dave and Jim's and watched The Brotherhood of the Wolf. Really cool movie, but thank fuck for DVD versions, cos the english dubbing is atrocious. Bad CG, but fun nonetheless, and a cool story.

They have announced that the same director will be making the Silent Hill movie - SchpatOhEight
Nice :P Have heard good things about Silent Hill, hope the movie lives up to the game -- SynKronos
