Weekend at the Hotel Beau Rivage

Date
Monday,17th March
:DM:Simon Cross
Setting
Mirror Shades
:System:WhiteWolf-esque?

Undercover Scotland Yard investigators James Chesterton and William Birkett are on the trail of suspected drug runner Doug McDougal? and a large mysterious suitcase. After following Doug to the channel tunnel the two agents are ordered to continue into France and uncover his foreign contact. Eventually they are led to the Hotel Beau Rivage near the small town of Philippsbourg in north-eastern France.

Earlier that afternoon Penelope Sunningdale, widow and multi-millionaire, had also made her way to Philippsbourg at the instruction of her daughter's kidnapper.

The hotel manager, Leon, and his wife, Monique, were friendly enough but who was the polite but eccentric Mr Widdershins and what was in Doug's extremely large suitcase? After a somewhat stilted dinner the guests retired to their rooms for the night. Ms Sunningdale found a note instructing her to be at the ruins of Helfenstein Castle at 2 hours past midnight the following day. The rest of the night past uneventfully except for some aborted sleuthing by Ms Sunningdale.

The next morning after a late breakfast Leon led William, Doug, Ms Sunningdale and the hotel repairman, Alain, on a tour of the three surrounding ruins. James remained behind to do some investigating. The large heavy suitcase in Doug's room was surprisingly completely empty given that it weighed at least 60kg. In an equally startling development the lining repaired itself after being cut. Unsure what to make of this James moved on to Ms Sunningdale's room where he found the princely sum of 300 000 pounds cunningly concealed in the mattress and also overheard Mr Widdershins and Monique engaged in some extra-marital activities.

The guests returned from the tour around mid-afternoon and William listened somewhat sceptically to James' tale of the empty suitcase. Ms Sunningdale found her room rifled and promptly armed herself with the gear-lock from her rented Fiat.

After dinner the two investigators decided to reveal their status to Ms Sunningdale and after a mutual exchange of information, William offered to follow Ms Sunningdale to the rendezvous point at a discreet distance. At around 10 o'clock the two set off for the Helfenstein ruins. At about the same time Doug moved the suitcase to the boot of his car and, after being confronted by James, returned to his room.

James, still itching to get to the bottom of the suitcase mystery, decided to break into Doug's car. While opening the boot, he was approached by Mr Widdershins who, unimpressed by James' Scotland Yard credentials, insisted that he return to the hotel. After bringing the matter to Leon's attention, Mr Widdershins returned to his room. Hoping to discredit Mr Woodershins (a regular at the Hotel) James informed Leon of Monique's activities that afternoon. A botched manipulation roll later, Leon was firmly convinced that James was a low-life criminal of the worst sort who would say or do anything to get what he wanted. A tussle ensued and James eventually decided matters by drawing his gun. Meanwhile Doug had taken advantage of the situation and left the hotel.

Ms Sunningdale and William had arrived at the ruins of the Helfenstein Castle only to find them guarded by a large black dog. Not wanting to push matters they retired to a hiding place nearby and were met by a somewhat flustered James about half an hour later. After a little more waiting the three watchers saw Doug emerge from within the ruins and William snuck forward to confront him. An epic gun battle within the ruins ensued from which William eventually emerged badly hurt, but victorious.

James and Ms Sunningdale slipped through the ruins and found the stairs from which Doug had emerged. At the head of the stairs James confronted and slew the menacing dog and the two proceeded downwards.

At the base of the stairs, in the old cistern, they found Mr Widdershins nearing the completion of a dark ritual and Samantha, Ms Sunningdale's daughter, lying bleeding on the stone floor. Mr Widdershins, despite being shot at, managed to step into the full length, smoky mirror which stood at Samantha's head and emerge again shortly before the mirror was thrown to the ground. He then promptly disappeared, leaving our three heroes to pick up the pieces.

Samantha was alive although she had lost a lot of blood. Doug was convicted of kidnapping and spent a long time in jail. James had a lot of explaining to do to the French police who arrived at the hotel a short while later in response to Leon's urgent phone call. Eventually, Scotland Yard bailed him out. Mr Widdershins has not been seen since.

Claws of Winter

DM:Dylan Craig

5 players
Using the 'Riddle of Steel' RPG Demo rules (www.theriddleofsteel.net)

Winter approaches, and the clouds above turn heavy and leaden with the snow that will soon blanket the land. The cold brings a new danger to these harsh lands: starvation. In the remote village of Helm, some stealthy predator is raiding the villagers' flocks in their pastures, killing and carrying off the fattened sheep faster than they can be butchered and cured for the larder. If the losses continue, the people will not have enough food to last until spring. Something must be done. A small group of villagers set off into the hills, resolved to conquer or die. But can they overcome the terrors that await them?

NOTE: Interested players, please bring d10s to the game! 5-10 per person if possible. If there aren't enough, we'll share, but it would be easier if we can get a lot. White Wolf players this means YOU! ;-)

Date: 3 February 2003
Module: "Thirteen Ways to Die...Choose One" By Dylan Craig (Zombies ate my Headlight experienced technical difficulties)

DM: Mike "NOT MISTRESS" Dewar

Cast: Graham as "Carl Copperton", billionaire contractor and control freak, Rich as "Daniel Copperton", ten-year-old son of aforementioned billionaire, Adam as "Stefano Marquez", Carl's highly trained bodyguard, Cass as "Linda Lewis", trophy wife and pill junkie, Conrad as "Eli Landau", amnesiac hitchhiker with a splitting headache, and Yancke as "Norton Blomberg", ice-cool driver for hire.

SUMMARY:

The unlikely group were forced off the road after a deer smashed through their windshield and Norton crashed their car. In finest B-Movie tradition, they decided to wander to a nearby town, Thirteen Pines, in hope of help...

Bad move. Thirteen Pines has turned from a nice little town into a zombie-infested hellhole. The residents are waiting to welcome them with open arms...and hungry jaws.

HIGHLIGHTS:

"Stone-Cold" Norton roasts marshmellows over the scorched corpse of a zombie. Daniel Copperton, the kid with the million-dollar eye, slaughters undead hordes with his rubber catty and a supply of ball bearings (accidently concussing Eli twice, by the way. Like an amnesiac needs to be hit on the head AGAIN), while his father discovers the defensive power of cans of baby food. Hey, see how you like it when a can of mushy peas hits you in the shoulder blades.

Linda puts an aerosol and Bic lighter to good, if pyromaniacal, use.

Norton got a chainsaw. Nuff said.

Stefano learned the consequences of provoking Norton as well as why you never violate the first rule of B-Movies:"NEVER WANDER OFF ALONE TO LOOK FOR HELP!!!"

Now undead, Stefano returned as a Zombie Lord to revenge himself on his fellows. Despite heroics efforts by the heroes (and an inventive use of chainsaw fuel by Linda "Pyromania" Lewis), Stefano and his undead allies succeeded in slaughtering the humans and unleashing apocalyptic undead hell on earth.

Have a nice day.
