We found the raft that Kerrick had made, added a few more logs to it, and paddled our way across to the island. From the evidence on the beach, the story that Kerrick told of seeing a tree stand up and walk away, were not the drunken tales of a madman (I had had my suspicions, I will apologise to him when I see him again). This is an amazing sight... We followed the caveman to the cave entrance, but we could not hear any Drow chanting. In fact, our caveman seemed to be smelling people (I think) like himself. We entered the cave, to investigate further. It is very dark inside the cavern (which seems to be very large). We skirted round the edge (which seems to be the toilet area). At the far end of the cavern, we found a passageway. The Caveman suggested he go scout ahead. I agreed with his assessment of the situation, and waited for his return. A little while later, we heard a muffled cry. The Barabrian woman, convinced it was our caveman in trouble (it could just as easy have been him dishing out the pain), pelted off into the passageway, without taking a decent light source. We heard another muffled sound, like something large had hit the floor. If it was the barbarian, maybe the knock will knock some sense into her... even if it is posthumously. I took the rest of our band slowly through the passageway. We found an area, near an almost completely hidden doorway, where there could have been an altercation... but there was no sign of the caveman or the barbarian... Through the doorway I found a rank living quarters, How any being with a sense of smell can live in those conditions is a mystery to me. We continued on... At another section we were spotted by some gaurds and they gave the order to scatter, as we discovered when we found another living area deserted. I tried to chase after one of the caveman that I saw, but in my armour and in this light, I would have gotten very lost very quickly (and never caught my prey), so I returned to the group. Jeremiah tried to get an idea about where our barbarian was, and pointed us down a passageway. That passageway entered into a cave. From the slight breeze on our face, we could tell that the cave was rather large. We found our caveman and barbarian, bound and gagged, at the end of the cave on what seemed to be a raised altar. As I tried to get near them, one of the two caveman guard statues (well, when I first looked at them, I thought they were statues, they did not move or react to our presence, until we got too close to them) came to life and attacked me. I killed him. Jeremiah tried to kill the other guard, but all he did was wake it up. The guard charged towards Jeremiah, but I stopped him before he could reach our Planar Cartography Agent. With the two guards dead, we proceeded to release and revive our fallen comrades. We took them off the altar and made our way out of the huge cave. But we were stopped by four more guards. Our Barbarian accounted for 2, I managed to cleanse one from the face of this plane, and Jeremiah and the caveman shuffled one more off this mortal coil. Huzzah! But our victory was short lived as we were attacked by the unholy magics of at least three evil clerics. We were frozen, and then bound and gagged, just as we had found our companions earlier. We were also placed on the altar, but at the last second, we were moved off and a Drow voluntarily ascended to the altar, and was sacrificed. Her head was severed from her body, and 8 spider legs formed under the head and a large spider was born. It told us, in our own language, to leave and never return. It should have killed us right there and then. Truely, the Light has shone upon me, even in the depths of that cave of evil and spared me this day. Today I rejoice in the glory of the Light and make a solumn swear to not return to town until I have either found our new king (who I believe more and more is very close by) or have eradicated each and every dark drow from this cave, and any more like it on this plane. It is time to call for more re-enforcements. I need a squad of ten armoured knights to storm that cave and lance the boil from the backside of this plane. We went back to the other side of the strait, and slept just off the beach. {Player Knowledge: After having gotten to town on Day 20, the Elf has gotten to the squat Cave with a contingent of ten well armoured Iron Gard, and is making his way to the other side of the mountain} Day Twenty TwoIn keeping with the oath I made myself, I am staying on this side of the mountain. The caveman wants to contact his people and ask why cavemen are helping the dark drow, and I want to see if I can perhaps find my king. I have asked him if he can sense another, like me in the forest. He says he can sense another horse like mine, and so we are following it's tracks. In a clearing, we came across a horse. It was wearing the livery of one of the Guard of Twelve. I called out to my fellow knight to show himself. And seemingly from nowhere, Jude appeared (he is indeed a master spy). He is badly injured. We immediately went about healing him. I am so relieved to see him. I was afraid that my dream meant that he was dead. Once we had him patched up more then he was before, we started to catch up. It appears he has has had a run in with some shadowy characters. There definitely seems to be an unholy alliance between the Shadow, the Spider and the Snake (could the snake be the dragon we have been hearing about?). While we were talking the caveman went off to talk to his trees. In the evening, when it came time to sleep, Jude took out a small object, turned it once and said we were safe to sleep. I believe his appearance this morning was due to him using this object. I wonder what other items I would have had access to, had I taken my place in the normal manner, and with all the normal training. I may never know. {Player Knowledge: The Elf and the ten Iron Gard get to the Drow side of the Mountain. Jeremiah and Barbarian travel towards the cave at this side of the mountain} Day Twenty ThreeThe caveman found out last night that his people were kidnapped (if I am to understand him correctly) and forced to help the drow. He is now also determined to get rid of the Drow menace, to save his people. We returned to the beach to await re-enforcements, for the purge of the cave. {Player Knowledge: Elf and Iron Gard meet up with Jeremiah and Barbarian. They station 2 Iron Gard at the cave mouth, and send the rest to the beach. Jeremiah and barbarian go on to town} Day Twenty Four and Twenty FiveWe arrived at the beach and awaited re-enforcements. We trapped the beach and it's surrounds in case we need to fight here, so it will be to our advantage. We also took the time to heal my comrade-in-arms. It is good to be around another of the Twelve. Already, I feel I am learning a lot from him. I feel stronger, fitter and more in tune with the Light. He is showing me how to pray to the Light for special divine help. I have already used my new found skills to help him heal even faster. I have had a strange sort of epiphany last night. Normally, when I get an epiphany, I can feel the warmth and love of the Light as I get a vision, but last night I felt no such warmth, or love. -is it possible that the Light isn't the only source of inspiration? InfernalRabbi But I have a hunch what I think is true, is indeed true. I believe that there is a second entrance to the cave system on the island! We felt a "slight breeze on our face". A breeze can only occur if wind travels from one place to another, from one opening to another. Also, there must be a place for the dragon to enter... Perhaps, if we find this second opening, we can go in that way, and come in the back, and surprise the residents of the cave... {Player Knowledge: Elf and Iron Gard travelling towards the beach. Jeremiah and Babrbarian get to town... and we all go up a level} Week 1 |
