ARTOComments

You are on the archive wiki. The new wiki is here. this is where you can post your veiws and comments on the ARTO Charter.....

  • I am all for a peace treaty in principle. However, I am reluctant to divulge too much information, and I do not believe that that should be a condition of the treaty. It's putting a lot of trust into something that I know nothing about. -- SynKronos
  • It would be very difficult for you to support many of the points in the charter without sharing the basic information.... i.e. your location (home-world) and your habitat parameters, at the very least. The intention of this organisation is to allow race of like mind to form treaties with each other. The information that you would give over would not be taken without some info being given back. If you do not feel comfortable with the arraignment why don’t you approach the current members as a whole and see if you could not broker some sort of lesser deal. I have taken a large chance by joining ARTO and as such I would need some serious convincing to vote in favor of a lesser deal. I am obviously open to discussions and negotiations as is the rest of ARTO -- Ork_Khrist
  • And are you going to beat up on the races who don't join? A deal I would be happy with is no info for no info, just the treaty part of it, until I can see you guys in action. One I'm convinced I can trust you lot, I'd be happy to join. While this is, as you say, a lesser deal, I am also getting less. -- SynKronos, Artenic Spokesman
  • Esteemed Artenic Spokesman, you seem to be missing the point of ARTO. Clause 1. of the ARTO Charter clearly states: "1. For all races to live in peace" and clause 5. states: "5. All signatories must agree never to attack any race, especially not another signatory". The ARTO is not a peace treaty, all signsatories undertake to uphold diplomatic relations with all other signatories, and also never to attack any race, even a non-signatory. That being said, the ARTO is a Treaty Organisation that has been put in place as a mean to settle disputes diploatically. There is nothing to stop you from making alliances with the individual signatories and not joining ARTO, but becoming a member confers a vote in all ARTO decisions. Negotiating individual treaties with the signatories but not joining ARTO is, in effect, like a lesser agreement, with none of the ARTO benifits. -- SchpatOhEight, Zagoid Federation
  • It is my personal view that a race that would share the desired information, is the kind of race that truly love peace. I understand that some races would be hesitant to lay themselves bare to races of unmeasured character. Perhaps there is some way we can calm this nerviousness? ---- Ork_Khrist (UBU)
  • Hmmm... well, I am tentatively interested, but I would like to wait for a bit, see how things pan out, get a grasp of controlling a newly space-faring nation. I'll come back to the treaty in due course, once I am satisfied with the conditions and perhaps had some face-to-face discussions with the parties involved -- SynKronos, Grand Nabob of the Artenic
  • Dear Grand Nabob, message recieved. We will see if we can arrange a face-to-face meeting, open to suggestions. -- SchpatOhEight, Zagoid Federation
  • your treaty seems too restrictive and looks like a preperation to some sort of dictatorship empire. even your opening cluase results in fear for non-signing races who wish to live undisturbed with a close friend or two. when we were happy trusting people with knowledge (such as how to increase your population through vigorous campaigning) we now fear telling you even the colour of our favourite pie. i hope your treaty treats you well but i fear it shall remind us of the league of nations (developed on a primitive dirtball called earth... thankfully cleansed by a zombie invasion). you may wish peace but i fear you promise destruction. good luck... please stay away from me as i will consider armed ships as a hostile action and may be forced to hide. -ZenStar, Sintarri (spokesman's name with-held due to fears of assassination attempts from treaty signaturies)
