NoRealReasonToPost

I saw Star Wars this morning, unfortunately with a crazed fanatic. Luckily he wasn't too rabid, though. It was exactly as I expected: Good special effects, but HORRIFIC(TM) acting. And of coarce the plot was only really a filler, i.e. people wanted more Star Wars stuff & it linked the story together. I also happened to see the trailer for the War of the Worlds. I WANT TO FLY TO HOLLYWOOD AND FIND THE PEOPLE RESPONSIBLE AND --CENSORED(Lets just say it won't be pretty)--. In fact, all the weapons of mass destruction in the middle east probably wouldn't be enough. They've BUTCHERED it! That novel was a masterpiece and they've taken it and, and... sigh they always ruin it. Always.

"You hear the sound of a chainsaw starting up."

> They've BUTCHERED it!

you were only watching a trailer, you can expect it to be shorter than the original :-D

also, it can't be worse than the original movie adaptation

and does it have midichlorians? I didn't think so

Comment: Yay... (by OOPMan on 2005-05-20 08:51:19)

It's crap. I'm so happy. Those fewls who posted "It's good" at IMDB were as wrong about it as they were about Troy.

Also, they wrote a novel? That's awful...

Comment: It's the spirit (by number473? on 2005-05-20 10:58:10)

I've never seen the original movie but I can tell from the trailer that this one is not in the spirit of the book. They've moved it to a modern setting and turned it into some action piece of rubbish. And they plucked the protagonist out of some hat they found underneath a discarded sofa recently discovered on Suturn's 47th moon.

Comment: The Other Adaptation (by MyrdemInggala on 2005-05-20 17:23:05)

There is apparently a recent (lower budget) indie adaptation which actually attempts to adapt the novel, rather than be extremely loosely inspired by it.

It's made by Pendragon Pictures.

Looks cool. With any luck, it'll be available in the finer Rondebosch video stores (hey, we found Ginger Snaps). :)

F*cking NullPointerException?

I hate NullPointerException?

If you mention NullPointerException? to me I will likely stab you with a pen.

Adam, you'd better let me blow somthing up in Heavy Gear today!

p.s. the computer science prac test didn't go all that well.

AShortStoryToKeepYouEntertained

Hi. I realse certain people are dissapointed in the end of my compelling tale of the life of an unamazing amoeba but I don't really care. But I'm going to say I do so that I have an excuce to pitty you and share with you some propper literature. Here's a story I wrote a while back.

BEGINNING AND CONCLUSION OF A SHORT WAR

Every few years (well, not every few years) the human race produces a maniac obsessed with taking over pretty much everything. Robert 291A was long overdue. For more than two thousand years (in corresponding Earth time) humanity had been too busy colonising a plethora of new systems to really worry about warfare. Anyway, it was impractical with the vast distances between the colony worlds, wasn't it? Even after the Smith Type IV Engine had made the journey possible in years instead of millenia, it was barely even possible to establish trade.

Shortly after Robert 291A's inauguration (I won't go into his "election" here), however, a newly-built fleet sporting Smith Type V Engines arrived in Alpha System. Earth had always been very free with technology it developed, as long as the colonies reciprocated in kind. As it was, the Smith Type V was the crucial key to Robert's plan. It made the interstellar journed possible in only weeks. Within an amazingly short time a fleet was constructed to carry a cargo that had not even been considinered in generations: nuclear weapons. Robert cackled gleefully to himself on numerous occasions preceding the launch of the new fleet. His second-in-command took a bit of convincing (and was still struck with doubt whenever he heard an eerie laugh coming from Robert's office) but the accountants were thrilled with by the idea.

The plan was simple enough: The fleet would travel to each colony in turn, threatening to blow them to itsy-bitsy little pieces unless they agreed to submit to the rule of Alpha System. The accountants thought it was great. The risk was low as the colonies had few defences, the interstellar space, and later habit, leading to a mostly peaceful civilisation. And the return was likely to be very high. The population also liked the idea, mostly because of propaganda, but also because Alpha System's planets were rather inhospitible and, most of all, the superiority complex that the inhabitanst of Home System had was really annoying. Thousands of young men and women who did not much like the idea of becoming slug farmers or cultivating potato/pineapple/rabbit hybrids joined the newly formed Alpha System Defence Force (ironic name, isn't it?).Soon everything was readdy. The fleet was in orbit and waiting only for Robert's word to depart for Home System. There was just one thing they hadn't planned on. Well two, actually.
Robert 291A died suddenly of a heart attack as he was about give the order for the invasion to commence. They should have taken it as a sign, but they didn't. The second thing that they didn't expect was that Earth was prepared for their attack. Their hastily prepared fleet was never designed to face any real resistance and they didn't. The admiral pushed the red button marked "SD" and entered the secret code as soon as he saw their impending doom. What else could SD stand for besides "surrender" anyway?

I wonder what Robert thinks about how it all turned out. Well, I can find out since I'm the omniscient third person narrator. When I tracked him down in the afterlife (no, I'm not going to spoil the surprise, you'll just have to wait and find out for yourself) he had this to sey, "It just isn't fair. Those pompous fools should have got what was coming to them. And I wanted to be rich and powerful. It turned out that the Earthlings had spies spying on us all along. We should have expected it. Why couldn't the plan have worked? Would have wiped that smug grin off their faces. Always with the stupid... mumble, mumble. And definetly too many stars on their flag. Grrr."

After declaring themselves heroes the people of Earth flexed their military muscles so that the other colonies would be more "grateful" to them.
There's a lesson in there somewhere.
!

I'd apreaciate any feedback you might like to give.

I don't really have anything elsse to say, except to remind you to bring superglue for the creation of the SUPER-CLAWtable?. And a sign would probably help too.

Bye.

Um, hi!

Firstly, I don't actually know what a blog is, but it looked interesting so I thought I'd try writing one.

That said, after browsing throught the avatars available I have come to the conclusion that someone in CLAWs must be a KOF fan. WHO ARE YOU? And is there an arcade anywhere near campus. Quake 3, I must say, is also a very admirable passtime.

Now on to the subject of roleplaying: When do I get to do some? I never expected campaigns took this long to get started. I want to find out what it's like. I'm pretty much a CL'''member at the moment.

Anyway, on a more interesting note, here's the mystery you've been waiting for. It's a story.

ARBITRARY AMOEBA STORY episode 1

There was once an amoeba whose name was Bob. He (or more correctly, it) was a fairly average amoeba. Amorphous and so on. His name wasn't actually even Bob, thats just a lable I designated him with to distinguish him from the BILLIONS of other amoebas. Even so, I'm still never entirely sure which one is him. As we watch, Bob begins to extend a pseudopodium...

Want to know what happens next? I didn't think so. But anyway, tune in for another episode of ARBITRARY AMOEBA STORY whenever I eventually decide to write it.

Comment: SNK is the One True Path... (by OOPMan on 2005-03-18 10:02:26)

I wasn't aware that there was a KOF picture up in the avatar gallery, but it's good to here.

On the SNK side of things, there are a fair number of SNK fans in and around CLAWs. Me and Zenstar are SNK lovers, and Adeeb also has mucho experience with SNK stuff.

On the campaigns side, start-up tends to vary, based on how busy the GM is. My own Heavy Gear campaign is probably only going to start running sessions in the first week of next quarter. It's been a kinda bump road gathering players.

Keep in mind that there are once-off modules run regularaly, and monthly LARPs are also run, so it is not too difficult to pick up some one-off roleplaying action...

Gimme more Amoeba story, I am intriguued...
