WebComics

You are on the archive wiki. The new wiki is here. Webcomics are great. Nothing wastes my time more than webcomics, because webcomics are regularly updated with new time-wasting goodness. Here is a selection from my regular line-up, plus additions from various sources. - Adrianna

Addendum: 1) Each category is now in alphabetical order, thanks to Andie. Please bear this in mind when adding new comics. - Adrianna

The 2004 Cartoonist's Choice Awards

Quite a few comics not on this list, but obviously good if they have been nominated.

Other webcomic pages on the wiki:

  • HumptyComics
  • and Dave also has one, but I can't remember where it is at the moment.

Exceptional Comic Indices

Daily:

  • diesel sweeties - pixel.art robot romance. interestingly, this is where kompressor's genocidal red robot of 'red robot theme song' is from.
  • Fans! - A science fiction and roleplaying society at a university and the story that they get into. Good plotting, many different artists and what's more: Close to many a CLAWmember's heart. New comics appear roughly once every two days, though at the moment it seems to be going daily.
  • It's Walky! - Dave, what is this comic about? Write a damn blurb! :)
  • Little Gamers - Bad art, no story line, poor humour. I don't know why I read this rubbish. But I do.
  • Man man - The superhero who always fails his bone head roll. The adventures of a janitor who was bitten by a radioactive man and was given the proportionate strength, speed and agility... of a MAN. Don't expect too much :P
  • Player versus Player - The antics of the staff of a magazine that reviews video games - the obligatory strange critter is a troll named Skull. Big archive.
  • Scary go round - Very British. Very pretty. Very good. Very offbeat and weird. Follows on from the now dead Bobbins http://www.bobbins.org/. Hope the Queen doesn't see this.
  • Schlock Mercenary - The art for this sci fi web-comic has to be seen to be believed. A more polite man would say "functional", I say crap. So it speaks for the general coolness of the plot that it's still a fairly compulsive read. Look out for the footnotes. And I mean it about the art.
  • Sinfest - There's the pimp, the ho, the pig, the cat, the dog, God and his humourous hand-puppets, the Devil, and loony holy fanboys. And the art is great.
  • Sluggy Freelance - Two guys, a girl, some other people, a violent little rabbit, a naive ferret, a frequently metamorphosing alien, demons, vampires, evil experiments... need I go on? This old favourite has had its weak moments, but it's currently back to its old self.
  • Something Positive - Very funny, and very disturbing. Features Choo Choo Bear, the melting cat.

Monday/Wednesday/Friday:

  • Eightland - Various comics by the creator of Road Waffles. None of them seem to last very long.
  • Errant Story, a new high fantasy comic by Michael Poe, author of the now deceased Exploitation Now (see Dead).
  • Goats - Two guys, beer, a womanising goat, a devil-worshipping chicken, beer, perverse aliens, zombies, weird mutant critters and beer.
  • MegaTokyo - A manga about two guys in Tokyo. l337.
  • No Need for Bushido - a story set in feudal Japan, but tongue-in-cheek and rife with anachronism.
  • RPG World - one for the consolers. if you've played a few old tile-based rpgs (zelda, early ffs, shining force, et cetera), you'll love this. spoofs everything from load-bearing boss monsters to wrap-around maps.
  • Twelve Dragons - I haven't read very much of it yet. The setting seems to be your standard high fantasy. Everything is drawn in beautiful, clean line-art.
  • Two Lumps - Kitties! I recently discovered this, love it already. Very funny, very accurate, those of you who are owned by cats will understand :) - FF
  • Angst Technology - This comic chronicles the adventures of the staff of a small computer game company - including the Webmonkey and a host of IT ninjas. Also very well-drawn... and back, after about 6 months of down time.

Weekly:

  • 6:35 - An odd little comic. Snapshots from the lives of various people.
  • Alpha Shade - A war comic set in what seems to be a fantasy steampunk sort of world. Don't worry about the flash if you haven't got any; you don't need it for the comic. Found by SynKronos - thanks!
  • Bob the Angry Flower, just like the title says. Not only funny but educational as well. (Okay, that's only one instance of education :)
  • Eversummer Eve - Another manga. Elves. Dragons. Magic. People with weird powers. Set in the modern day. Updated on Monday.
  • Ghastly's Ghastly Comic starts off a bit dodge, but gets really funny once it gets going. Warning: see comments regarding Sexy Losers.
  • KU-2 - There's this guy with funny hair, see, and this alien android thing with a floating head that crashes its spaceship in Hawaii. And now they're fighting an elder god from the deep.
  • Nine Swords - A manga set in an original fantasy world. There are vampires who are not vampires, vampire hunters who are part-wolf, and nine swords of prophetic significance that everyone is looking for.
  • Order of the Stick - A stick figure dungeon hack. Pretty cool.
  • Red Meat - Showcasing a rather bizarre neighbourhood inhabited by psychotic milkmen, crazy schizophrenics and worrying husbands. Shame on you for forgetting this one, Adrianna - Gareth
  • Strong Bad - Bad, oh so bad... but oh so good. This is one of the funniest things I have seen on the web. Unfortunately each 'episode' is a flash file. You'll want to stop but will continue clicking.
  • TimeScapes - Interdimensional time travel thingy. With angels and demons and furries and stuff. Very well-drawn. Will provide more info later.
  • Trollbabe - Adventures of various trollbabes, often involving goo. Based on the roleplaying game by Ron Edwards. Backlist points to individual artists' sites.
  • Xamra - A very well-drawn manga. Very cool so far, despite the major similarities to Neon Genesis Evangelion (although you can't really tell from a dozen strips) and the gratuitous panties.
  • Week-end Warriors - From the author of Angst Technology. This is a cartoon about Paintball and Paintballers. Reasonably entertaining. Updated every Tuesday.
  • Sorry, We're Open - A brand new comic by Barry T Smith, the guy who does Angst Technology and Weekend Warriors. The first comic was published on 1 April 2004... no joke. It is about two brothers who own a small comic book and game shop. Updated every Thursday to complete Barry's 5 day week.

Variable:

  • Ctrl-Alt-Del - New one every 2 days or thereabouts. Room-mates, games, couch. First web comic to actually make me laugh out loud. I recommend you start from #1. (Campey)
  • Elf Only Inn - The amusing adventures of the denizens of a roleplaying chatroom. Hasn't been updated for a loooong time.
  • Join Elftor, his friend Cheesetor and frequent guest stars R2D2?, Gandalf and Osama bin Laden on their adventures in Elfland. See them perpetrate random acts of violence and impartially insult all the world's population groups. This comic is usually politically incorrect, frequently very funny, and always extremely cheerful. Hooray! Elftor is back!!
  • Fyre - D&D style fantasy, focussing on fire elves. Not yet bi-weekly as claimed. Only just started. Great art.
  • Longest Wait - another Drowtales manga. Very pretty art.
  • New Gold Dream is a new Something Positive roleplaying game spinoff. It updates infrequently with long B&W installments.
  • Nowhere Girl - It's about a girl. Great art and writing. Somewhat angsty, but it's an acceptable level of angst. the perfect level of angst! - d@vid
  • Penny Arcade - Very funny take on breaking news and current events in the gaming and console market.
  • Reman Mythology and other comics, most of which are set in the same original fantasy world - unfortunately, Reman Mythology itself is not available on the site in its entirety.
  • Sexylosers - It's dodgy. Really dodgy. But Duncan likes it... and some others can appreciate the humour. Give it a try... but carefully. Ah, the dodgiest comic on Earth. No children under 42! Fap, fap, fap. - Adrianna
  • Sune (and other comics) - Science fiction; for the mature reader. In other words, contains some disturbing sex. Kinda cyberpunk-in-space-y, with aliens and megacorps and wacky cults.
  • I can't believe I forgot all about Supermegatopia. Furry heroes! Furry villains! Gratuitous furry cleavage! Hooray!

Lying Very Still and Not Breathing:

  • Evil in the Depths is a new Drowtales manga with awesome art. How it fares scriptwise remains to be seen, as there are currently only two pages of it, not counting the cover.
  • Outsider - A science-fiction comic (and the first really good one I've been able to find). Hasn't updated in ages.
  • Souls through Darkness - Definitely the best manga on the Drowtales network. It's about drow. Well, currently a drow. Irregular updates.
  • And while we're on Drowtales, let's not forget Spiderborn, which is drawn by Hevia, who also does Souls Through Darkness (above).

Dead:

  • Blackthorn - it's about an elf and a witch who are on the run from the law. And it died.
  • Exploitation Now - Poe's comic about a porn star lawyer and her dysfunctional sisters, a weird cat thing and a girl genius with a mechanical hand. Poe now has a new comic called Errant Story (see M/W/F).
  • Halflight Breaking - A comic about elves. A tragic untimely end. The author pleads overwork.
  • Sunday Morning Coffee has lots of funny parodies of other webcomics and other web phenomena.
  • The Parking Lot Is Full - this timeless Larsonesque classic may be dead, but some of its most poignant strips will stay with us forever (like the one with the one-eyed rat things clinging to people's backs and sucking them dry).

Completed in a planned and orderly manner

  • Bite Me, a cool comic about vampires, is now hosted at Girlamatic, a subscribe-to-read-the-archive site. It was cool.
  • Demonology 101 - This is a comic about a teenage demon. Words cannot describe its extreme coolness. if you're only going to read one of the comics on this page, make it this one. Now complete.

Back! Back, you fiend! Back to FandomMenace!
