SynKronosJanMarTwoKayFourYou are on the archive wiki. The new wiki is here. 29 March 2004Okay, ananzi are grating my carrot, so fuck them (no more POP access). From now on, please send all ananzi correspondence to synkronos@discoverymail.co.za. You are all also more than welcome to use my work mail, which I can and do also access from home, so it is just as convenient. Your choice :P Weekend was relaxed, watched lots of movies, went shopping, played some Diablo. Not much more :P Had, not quite forgotten, but pushed from my mind, how crap Episode 1 was. The droid and vehicle designs are awesome tho. Hmmm, droidekka, AAT :) 25 March 2004Well, hockey last night was about as dire as I was expecting. Fortunately, it was a lot shorter than I was expecting, due to virtually non-existent organisation. The organiser (well, the person who mailed us at least) rocked up at 6:30 (for the 6pm start). He walked over to the girls who were also practising on the astro and chatted to them for a bit, and then came over to me. He said the girls had fucked it all up (they were there 1:30 early cos they are incapable of using the booking sheets), and that he had a 5:30 meeting to go to, so we must all just play a little bit on the half field that was left. And then he left. So we played for about 30 mins. I dunno who was around to watch, but, hey, we'll see. Selections are usually completely random/based on past performance anyway, so whatever. Then Colleen fetched me and we went back thru to Julie's place for supper with Helen and Richard, nice grilled chicken on the griddle pan (irresistable) with salad and stuff. Those peanut sprouts are really good. Chatted for a bit, then home to read some more Harry Potter. Man, I wish they would just pound that Umbridge bitch once and for good. And perhaps Fudge with her. And all the Malfoys. Yay, Magic tonight. Afraid I can't make it again tonight. Thursdays have been somewhat difficult for me to manage of late. And I refuse to sign up for a bloody on-line SMS service! Replies are overrated anyway. ;) - Ryan 24 March 2004That was a very long downtime for the Wiki. I'm sure a lot of regular users had withdrawal. Anyway, back now, so all good. Meh, was sick yesterday and Monday. What a waste of a public holiday! All feverish and nauseous. Lots of disprins, they were the only thing that broke the fever occasionally. It always came back, and then I had to wait out the time limit between disprins. Did get some Diablo in tho :P And some more reading of Harry Potter 5. Got hockey trials tonight. Only found out today, since the mail was sent out over the weekend, but today was my first day back after the weekend. Slightly short notice. I'm sure I'll die. Oh well. Lanned on Saturday. Lots of UT2004? demo. Onslaught is awesome. Also played XIII, a weird cartoon FPS. Looks pretty cool, although I didn't enjoy deathmatch. Looks like it will be worth single playing tho. 15 March 2004Went to gym yesterday with Stu and Colleen (Planet Fitness in Stadium on Main). Stu's just joined, and is all keen to go regularly. So, great for me, we can encourage each other :) Apparently Ross is also a member, and plays squash, so I should get hold of a racquet and play a bit. I love squash :) Last night we went thru to Julie and Al's to watch Star Wars episode 5. Man, Luke is such a whiney bitch. He needs a fat smack. Was cool tho :) 14 March 2004Amy's 21st last night was really cool :) Swanky food, soooo good. Salmon! Yay! Had lots of fun chatting to Stu, Chris and some other ppl I hadn't seen in a while. The parental units' visit was actually really pleasant. We chatted about pretty interesting stuff in a mostly rational way, even tho Colleen's mom is rather a conspiracy theorist. It seems she's of the opinion that, if something has been published, then it must be true. Makes for interesting discussions, especially when she thinks she knows better re: topics that Colleen has studied. Colleen was pretty good at not taking offense, and I managed to distract them with a hop onto google for a search. Which came up in Colleen's favour, obviously :P Ooo! And we have an almost new Lexmark Z53 now :) With some ink. Just need to get some paper. 13 March 2004Saw Underworld last night, and I thought it was really awesome. The storyline wasn't as blatant a rip of Romeo and Juliet as I was expecting, and was actually quite cool, if not amazingly original. Kate Beckinsale really does look good in black skintight leather and sporting a British accent, and I thought it had a nice twist. If anything, the movie felt a little rushed to me, like they should have taken a lot longer to tell the story. It had a sort of epic feel to it. Just had a driving lesson now, to teach me all the K53 (or 51 or whatever, I can never remember) stuff and what not. The guy was impressed, and says I won't need many lessons. He also said do the test at Ottery rather than Sea Point, so it shall be so. Colleen's parents coming over later for lunch, we're making chicken pie (just to continue my rivetting dietary update for NoHolesBarred). They'll be bringing the printer over too, which will be cool. Then, 21st tonight. Fun ^_^ 12 March 2004I couldn't break the updating streak with just one day in the week to go now, could I? Had ppl round for Magic last night. Was a much smaller game, with only Jim, Waynne and Dave rocking up. Was fun. my affinity deck universally wins, pretty much. I'm pretty bummed that Dave's frikkin Darksteel Reactor deck beats all my decks except affinity. Blah. Colleen's dad just bought a brand new printer. However, since this printer was too extreme for his machine (new-fangled inventions like USB connectors and CDRom? drives were required), he bought a new machine as well. Oh well, Colleen and I score a(n older) printer. Go us. Was going to go to a LAN this weekend, but now it's been moved to next weekend. Want to know why? The organiser, Steven, forgot to book the hall. Genius. And this is something that he does once a month pretty much. Ah well, it means I can organise a mostly free weekend next time. Blarg! Was gonna go visit parental units in Clovelly and Bergvliet respectively, until I find out that the Argus is this weekend, therefore no going anywhere on the freeway. Later on maybe then. 11 March 2004Had Stu and Amy over last night for dinner and Mah Jong. Colleen made the coolest supper - butternut soup to start with, followed by fish, salad and spinach risotto, followed by Aylsebury tin roof ice cream and melted chocolate as a sauce - it was amazing! Mah Jong was fun, it's a great game really. I won't bore you with the details tho :P thanks for the rivetting update of your diet though - too bad about that mahjong report back :P -- NoHolesBarred
Many apologies for missing the magic evening tonight. I had some new work come up that needed to be completed for tomorrow, but I won't bore you with the details. Hope everyone there had fun. -- Ryan
No worries man. It was pretty small this time. Hope to see you next time :P -- SynKronos
10 March 2004Woah, had the most intense ]] experience yesterday, was quite freaky actually. It's a war comic, just starting so only like 44 or so pages up. And they kill off some ppl that you've barely met. But it came as such a surprise and was so sudden and harsh that I almost started crying. Roleplaying last night was pretty cool. We talked a lot of crap, and got some playing done. The way it should be :P 9 March 2004Just finished the last bug assigned to me - damn, it took a long time. Stupid ppl who coded this in the first place! I think the consciously tried to make it as difficult as possible to work out wtf is going on. Anyway, sorted now, now I just have to wait for them to assign more stuff. Could take weeks. They're a bit bad at responding. Roleplaying last night was really great. Mostly melee combat, which is a novel and welcome change. Had fun with my axe, and learnt quite a bit about sword fighting. Also managed to pick up an alien bonesword - very nice. In a similar vein (ha ha, no pun intended), we restart our Vampire game tonight after a brief hiatus. Looking forward to getting back to Marco, my Assamite. Oo! And Diva's pizza! Yum! 8 March 2004Friday Colleen picked me up from work and we went thru to Makro in Montague Gardens to get a new cellphone and contract for her. It was late, and we only just made it in time. It's the deal where you get R2500 Makro vouchers as well, which is great, since we are wanting to buy a lot of new appliances and stuff anyway. The only vouchers they had were R25, apart from about 4 R50 ones. That's close to 100 vouchers. Colleen was wanting a SIM swap, which you can only do at Vodashops, so we had to get that done and then fax a photocopy of the sim thru to Makro, to prove that we got a contract. We decided that was just too much effort, and since we had vouchers to spend anyway, would just come back. Friday night went to Panchos and TOR with Jo, since our respective partners were otherwise engaged. Haven't had nachos in so long, it was really good. TOR was kinda arb, just a few laid-back games of pool, then I went home. Stayed up on the net til Colleen came back home. Got Discovery access now, rather than sponging off Duncan's parents' Telkom account :P Got disconnected twice this w/e, not sure if that is cos of Discovery or what. Will see if it improves, or else I will complain to then (not that it is likely to do much, but hey)
Saturday slept in really late, was great :) Arbed around at home, then we were planning on going thru to Makro, but we decided it was too late to get the SIM swap and then make it in time to shop properly, so we just went to Cav and did the swap. Evening, we went to Julie and Al's and sat and talked for a bit. Jim, Waynne and Jean were also there. They reminded me about the Grand Prix the next day... viewing at Waynne's place... at 5am! Damn :/ Ah well, 3 hours sleep... and I can always go back to sleep when I get back. 4:30 saw me getting up to my alarm clock, the most confused I have ever been. The alarm clock wouldn't turn off, no matter how much I turned it off and then back on again. Don't worry, it doesn't make sense to me either. Once it did finally turn off (and stay off), I got ready and left. Got there a little late (although Waynne was still in his pyjamas), and we missed the start. It was okay tho, cos they replayed it a little later. Was an okay race, with nothing overly exciting happening. We were doing the 'make comments moments before the commentators say the exact thing' again. We really should get a job doing it :P Jim brought marshmallows and Oreos, hmmmmm. Went back home, and tried my damnedest to get back to sleep, but I just couldn't. Maybe the coffee, but that was like 1:30 previously. shrug Eventually got up and messed around for the 3 hours until we were going to Makro. We were mainly looking for a TV ay Makro, but they didn't have a very wide (or very cheap) selection, so we ended up getting kitchen things and a vacuum cleaner instead. The vacuum cleaner roxx0rz, 1300W, awesome stuff. Ph33r the power! Did vacuuming when I got home, was great. That evening, Jo and Philip came over to fetch Jo's top which she had left in the car. Philip went home a little later to do some (a lot of) reading for varsity today, and Jo stayed to watch a DVD - Sweet Home Alabama. Jim and Dave came over and played Magic with me. A nice evening :) Supper was good as well, fish bakey things and potato cheese cream stuff. 5 March 2004Awesome. Just when I was settling down to a relatively crime-free patch, Colleen gets her cellphone stolen from out of her bag at Stones in Obs.
She was sitting at the bar with a friend, Frances, and they were chatting, and Colleen's bag was on the bar next to her. There was this black chick sitting pretty nearby, having a drink, but nobody thought very much of it since, well, that's what you do at bars. Sit and drink. Right? So, at one point Colleen checks her bag and finds the cellphone flap slightly open. It's a velcro-closing external pouch, but it's quite old and so comes open semi-regularly. So she closes it, thinks nothing of it. Later, she checks for her cellphone, and the flap is wide open, and there is no sign of the cellphone or the chick. Nice. Seems we should all be paranoid mofos, and duct tape everything to ourselves. Don't delete her number yet tho, she's gonna get a contract and try get her old number back. Anyway, on happier news, I hosted a massive Magic evening last night - 8 people, soo cool :) Jo came over and made vege lasagne and apple pie for everyone ^^ Thank you Jo! Other ppl there were: Dave, Waynne, Jim, Ryan, Sed, Matthew and Philip. Most ppl were playing fun decks, although Sed and Matthew don't _have fun decks, they only have win decks. I still skewled Sed with my aggro-affinity build. It was satisfying :P And I still think it's fscking hilarious that all the Magic players at Wizards call him towely. We must get a standardized Chaos list printed out, the one we were using last night needs some tweaks. Yay for weekend! Yay for ]] questions to break the tedium! Stars turns should go faster tho :/ Oh! And got my WormsThreeDee reader review (not the one on the wiki) printed in PCFormat?. Pretty kewl. 27 February 2004Yay :) End of month, and I'm not broke. Amazing. And YAY! Colleen doesn't have to camp out in McGregor anymore :) Best news I've had in ages. Last night played Magic with Ryan, Waynne and Jim. Was fun played :) Played two big chaos games, haven't done that in ages :P Got quite a few cards off Ryan as well, great stuff :) A lot of my decks are far closer to completion now. GobLin's Bday today, happy birthday man! See you tonight for Mexican food, booze and good company :) Yay! Hmmm... a bit of a 'Yay!' themed post it seems :P Oh, and also - Yay! I get the computer back! 23 February 2004Well, got my machine back on Friday finally, unfixed. Useless. It's not a life-threatening problem, and it was costing too much down time. Marc, the boss, is going to have a quiet word with them, I fear. And he's British. You know what those British thugs are like. Saw Lost in Translation on Sunday. Was okay. I didn't really sympathise with the whole theme of the movie, since I don't really (or at least try not to) put myself in situations where I am quite that alienated from everything. As somebody said (I forget who), the movie is not about Japan in the slightest. It just happens to be a sufficiently foreign and bewildering setting to most people that the movie is aimed at. It was well done tho, just not really my style. Played TP at Jo and Philip on Sun. Was okay, but a little tense and protracted. Alex and I ended up winning thru abandonment, since we were tediously orbiting the middle, answering all the green questions along the way and managing to totally avoid the space we were aiming at. The smokers (TM) also managed to upset one of the co-owner of the block of flats by smoking right outside the door rather than round the back somewhere where they were supposed to (except for ZenStar, I think, who traipsed all the way around) Meh, that's about all that's interesting. 17 February 2004Bah :( Again. Temporary machine atm, one of our dev servers. Well, soon to be dev servers. My machine should be ready by this afternoon. It's now 4:37, I don't see it happening today. Sooooo.... fun and games. Been playing M:tG online today. The interface is so fucking shitty, and completely non-user friendly. It's impressive what it does (although it still doesn't cover all the rules), but interface really is paramount. I don't count myself as a n00b at figuring out new interface systems, but this is sort of arcane and tricksy, like it wants to mana-burn you to death if you don't utter the correct rituals. Plus you can only play 8th Ed precons (read, shit) unless you spend real money. I'm less than keen to spend real money, when I could spend the same money, only actually get something for it. Hongs last night was a mixed experience. The food was awesome, really amazing. The service... not so much. They were apparently shortstaffed in the kitchen so, fair enough, our food arrived in drips and drabs with the cooked stuff taking longer (far longer) than the sushi. But our waiter wasn't short staffed, he had no such excuse for such mundane errors as getting orders wrong, or such obscure transgressions as the following. He brought Colleen and my drinks on a tray and, while handing Colleen her bottle of water almost knocked my (empty) class onto the table. He managed to catch it, but one of the blocks of ice fall out. So, no worries, I pick it up and put it on my side plate. He then straightens stuff up and proceeds to pick the side plate up and tip the ice block back into my glass, which he then fills up with my coke. Then he says, 'You didn't put soy sauce in there, did you?' and laughs about it. Nice. Well, like I say the food was amazing. Leave it at that. Then we went back to my place for homemade milkshakes - choc ice cream, milk, coffee, marshmallows and little tubular biscuits with filling. Very nice :) Colleen showed Philip Zuma while GnomeThing showed off his spanky new laptop. Very spanky :P Then, alas, time for bed. Oh well... Mah Jongg tonight with Jo and Mark :P No playing for money this time, just points :P 16 February 2004Bah :( They have taken my PC away to be fixed, so here I sit on Red Hat/Mozilla, updating my little wiki page. The 4 desktop thing is cool tho. Oh, and I can't use XChat?, cos I dunno how to SSH tunnel to darkskies, and lagnet kills our ADSL modem (router technically, but whatever). Weekend was cool, played Mah Jongg with Julie and Al, twice :P Great game, but the rulebook is all but unintelligible. Thank god I have leet rulebook reading skeelz, Who said too much Magic/Mythos/Pokemon/Munchkin was bad for you? We ended up playing for real money on Sunday night (real? 1c a point is hardly real), and I ended up being the only one in the black with ~+R8 (hey, don't laugh, it got me 2/3rds of the way to work today :P), and the others ranging from ~-R6 to ~-R1. Was fun :) And not just cos I won. Saturday during the day played Magic with Jim and Dave. My three main decks so roxxor :P Jim's soldiers ended up kicking my affinity deck right in the beanbag, but hey. It works pretty well, as do the Charbelcher and Burn decks, so I'm pretty happy with all 3 of them. Friday night, the movies were truly awful. Maybe at the time they were amazing, groundbreaking, but I am not at that time, so I had little to no appreciation of them. At least I had the good grace to only rip it off for a little and then leave the rest of you to watch it in peace, if that was your desire. By the time the 3rd movie came on (13 ghosts), Colleen wanted to go home. It looked so cheesy, I really wanted to watch it, just for its awful factor :P Maybe next time. Yay :) Hong's tonight, should be cool. And Colleen around tonight and tomoz night ^^ Soz to my roleplaying group, but you lot don't give me sex, so nyeh. And if you did, then I would _never show up, ever. Especially Garrick. No offense :P 9 February 2004Cool weekend :) Was good having Colleen back for a bit. For those of you who are confused, she will be back every weekend, from Friday afternoon 'til Monday morning. Went to bed really early on Friday night, still suffering after-effects of TNM/Munchkin. Saturday Colleen and I went to go see Kill Bill. How disappointing. It had all the cool scenes that come with every Tarentino, but it was also chock-full of the pretentious crap that comes along with it. It had an extremely anime feel, only with live acting. I am firmly of the opinion that not only does this not work, but that it also looks completely ridiculous. Leave the stupendously overdone fight scenes to the animation, along with the luminous blue and yellow spandex suits. That's where they belong. Not a waste certainly, but I enjoyed it more as an interesting comparison of styles than a good movie to watch. Sat evening watched movies with FirstFallen and Philip on the spanky new DVD drive we have. Tried to watch one of the James Bonds, but half the middle of the CD was broken out, so no go on that one. Ended up watching Romeo Must Die and Resident Evil (off my CDs?), which were both pretty cool. Sunday went to Jim's for magic and movies. Watched (semi-watched :P) Willard and About A Boy (really really funny, I'd recommend it, despite starring Hugh Grant), and had a lot of fun playing Magic with Waynne, Dave, Jim, Sed and Matt (at various points throughout the day, new players arrived :P) But now Colleen has left again :/ Ah well waits for next w/e 6 February 2004Yay! Colleen gets back today :) Well, actually she is back home already, and I'm the one stuck at work :( Bah. Hope you get better soon FirstFallen! See, you didn't die horribly, or even puke up the entire contents of your venous system. TNM was okay last night. Roo's place is actually surprisingly easy to get to from Tableview (well, compared to other places, since nowhere is easy to get to from Tableview, except maybe Parklands). Watched Mothman Prophecies, which was okay. Might have been a leetle freaky, but we had 10 ppl MST3K?'ing it, so too much laughter to be taken seriously :P A little predictable too, but hey. And, WTF!! Stove was at TNM!!!! Like, what the! I had forgotten just how dim he was, and the Munchkin game was extended because of him (read, he was v e r y s l o w at picking up how things worked). But then he obviously parked in someone at the complex's parking bay, so they parked him in and had to ring their doorbell at 3am, nice one. We, obviously, bailed while he was having an early morning tete a tete with someone. Funny, but so sad. Munchkin roxx0red :) First time with standard Munchkin, only played Fu before. Was kewl :) Certain power cards ramp you up insanely, like Orc as your race, Thief as your class, and the Helm of Peripheral Vision to protect you from other thieves. Then, once you have (steal) the Magnificent Hat, you can discard Orc to get something else cool. Must play more... 3 February 2004Lack of sleep due to sunburn :( It's not good when you roll over in your sleep onto your sunburnt side, and then wake up repeatedly throughout the night. I'm just really really thankful that there were no mosquitos, or I woulda just jumped off the balcony rather than face bites on top of it all. Roleplaying yesterday was okay, but I didn't really get into it, wasn't particularly in the mood. Not sure if I will be in the mood for the vampy game tonight either, but we'll see what Binky does. 2 February 2004Ow! I am more sunburnt than I have ever been in my life :( The act of wearing a t-shirt is unpleasant. Aftersun is my friend, it just doesn't work fast enough. Sunblock next time, for sure. Anyway, my w/e... Friday went to Panchos with Colleen, was nice :) Saturday was the housewarming of the Three Stooges. Was fun, although two of the stooges were useless at making a fire, and the third was sitting with me on the porch, making comments about the lack of skill of the others. Was fun :) Braaied pretty late, but was a good braai. Sat around and talked crap, then went out to Late Ed with Ross, Dave, Lindsey, John and Kate. Pina Coladas are psychotically rich. Sunday went to the place Colleen's sister (Wendy) is housesitting atm. Nice place, nice pool, although the sun was a little warm. Hence the roasting of the Jason-flesh. Was fun at the time, but now I am paying. Got a DVD drive for the PC this w/e (well, actually a CD-RW/DVD combo drive), so set that up and watched Harry Potter 2, which was pretty cool :) The spiders, man, they were large. Bleh :( Colleen left this morning, that's pretty sucky. So I'll see her again next w/e... :/ 29 January 2004As you may be able to guess from my lack of reply yesterday, my machine is, in fact, now fixed. Mostly. It still does the right-click-crash thing, for a while after rebooting, but I can now install programs and actually run the code I need to run, which seems like a really novel concept. At least to my machine. Get a mac! <grin, wink> -LothrielPixie
Pish, I will do no such thing _"using a mac's a little different than using a pc: it's not so much operating a computer as it is sort of tricking it, fooling it, into doing what it is you really want it to do." "there are a lot of great games on the mac. like, warcraft 3.. um, that puzzle game with the apple logo! that's a great game." and a personal opinion: macs are for stupid people who like to pretend they're technologically competent. exhibit a. -- NoHolesBarred_
Technologically competent?! HAA HA HAAA HA - The average Windows-user is no better in this regard. The average user is technically incompetent whatever the platform. At least the mac has a real OS as its foundation... :P -- GnomeThing Watched movies last night at Dave, Jim and Ross'. Should that be Dave's, Jim's and Ross'? Or (Dave, Jim and Ross)'s? Whatever. The Core is the worst movie in all of creation. It even loses its MST3K? appeal after a while, and we were certainly beating it hard towards the beginning. Unobtanium? Even tho it is the guys nickname for it and not the real name (which has 13 syllables, apparently. Unlucky for some, so I can understand why he was reluctant to say it out loud). Looking at the molecular model for it (the one that gives the main character his flash of brilliant insight when they are in dire need, hanging above the drivers' seats, like some high-tech fuzzy dice replacement), it looks suspiciously like nested buckyballs (well, the real name has 6 syllables, so I wouldn't want to tax my line-remembering capabilities, I mean, your puny little brains (Buckminsterfullerene, for those of you who were wondering)). I'm not even going to go into the technical mistakes they make (be they chemical, geological or merely common sensical). I'd have to dedicate an entire website to that pursuit. It was bad. The second movie, Lilo and Stitch, was pretty cute tho. Quite enjoyed that. And my Goblin Charbelcher deck was whipping Jim's decks, badly :P Oo :) And PCFormat? are gonna print my review of Worms3D? :) Apparently the March issue, they say, along with a little piccy of me and all :) The review is only 200 words (their limit, not mine), so it's not anything big, but it is cool :) See y'alls at TNM tonight, for V 28 January 2004Okay, so I'm on the way to work today, my usual 3-legged taxi journey (and by that I mean three different taxis, not a taxi with legs or anything), and I'm on the final stage of the journey, the cruise down to Bayside. The taxi stops at a robot. After a while, it goes green. The driver starts accelerating, the taxi lurches forward a bit, and then shudders to a halt. The driver tries to start it again, but no go. So I ask him 'What's up?' and he informs me that, no, he has no guage ('no gej'). At first I have no idea what he's talking about, so I ask, again, 'What??'. He points at his dashboard and repeats 'No gej, no gej'. Eventually, I work out what he means. He has run out of petrol, but it's not his fault, because he has no petrol guage. Lo! and behold! For there is a gap in his dashboard where lesser drivers might be tempted to put such unneccessary items as petrol guages or speedometers. Ah, well, no biggie, he gives me back my money, and I catch the next taxi (a 4-legged taxi, much more sensible). But taxis never cease to amaze me. Just when I think I am becoming worldly-wise and taxi-savvy, they throw me a curveball. What next? So, at work today, I've rebuilt my machine 4 times. Now, since it's an NEC machine, it's easier than usual, since there is a hidden partition that has the XP image on it, as well as all the drivers I need. But, each time I rebuild, I have this problem. Whenever I right click on the desktop, explorer.exe spazzes and crashes out. But, now, as I'm writing this fscking rant, I see it has stopped doing it. Hmmm... well, maybe it'll be okay now... Fsck, gotta check some stuff.... maybe post a little later... 27 January 2004Bleh, I hate my PC at work :( We've actually got some coding to do, and now the IDE is acting up again, so I am coding without the ability to compile or check my work in any way. Oh, and the section we're coding now, has nothing to do with the section we did weeks of documentation on. Thanks, guys, good going. Just waiting for Marc (the boss) to get back before I start rebuilding my machine. Joy! Rapture! I think it's not working cos IIS is spazzing, but I know fsckall about IIS troubleshooting, so whatever. Darksteel prerelease tournament over the weekend, was kewl :) I ended up coming 7th out of about 35 ppl, which is cool. Unfortunately, 7th is one away from a prize-winning place. Am I doomed to always come one away from prizes? This is the third card-gaming tournament in which I have missed prizes by one spot, and I don't play tournaments all that often. Oh well, I was pretty happy with the result. The two games I dropped during the tournament were against ppl who came 4th and 2nd, so that's fine. Man, Ross and his 'Severe Beating', it hurt, let me tell you. But it's okay, cos Ryan took the 'Severe Beating' on the chin, twice :P All Flesh game finally started again (finally!). Was an okay session, lots of new stuff, but a little lacking in action. I'm sick of planning sessions, we've had those almost solidly for the last aeon. I just wanna do some stuff. But not get killed, I feel compelled to add. 20 January 2004Bleh, another long boring day doing documentation :( Been hanging around on the Magic forums quite a bit, sorta interesting, it passes the time at least. But fscking slow. Of course, this may just be the ADSL acting up again :/ Never can tell. Made a nice chickpea and apple curry last night, really needs some nice bread to go with it tho, and some curry powder that actually has some curry-ness to it, but Colleen is not a fan of 'burny' food. Although even she admitted it could have been hotter. That's how mild it was. Roleplaying tonight, still no ZenStar due to exams. Diva's pizza... hmmmm... ^_^ I may or may not do a writeup of the game tomorrow, depending on how bored I am. 19 January 2004Okay, I've had e-fucking-nough of this stupid rant. I don't care about it, I don't care about any personal issues the arguers may have with each other, I don't even know what the rant is about for fuck's sake! And yet it's been the hot topic of debate (with other people who don't have a fucking clue, btw) for the last few days. Lets leave it where it is, a mystery, except for those people to whom it matters. I used to agree with Roo's restaurant analogy, 'Shut up or talk louder', but now I'm firmly in the 'Shut up' camp. It's caused enough issues with people, far far aside from anything to do with the actual event. So, enough. Yes? Peace? Or at least quiet. And I am not pretending it didn't happen, I am merely saying that it has become so tedious and silly and insulting that I have been made not to care, through overexposure maybe. Anyway, enough. Ada's bday last night was kewl, just chatting with ppl etc. Work today is again workless, there US ppl are completely useless. It's not quite as fun as you might imagine. I could be doing all this at home, rather than trekking thru to Tableview. sigh Well, hopefully this day will end sometime soon, then I can go home. 18 January 2004Jim's bday last night was awesome :) Teazers story was actually hilarious :P It turns out that Dave phoned Jim on Friday night while Jim was at Primi Piatti and there was a lot of noise, so Dave asked where he was. 'Teasers,' Jim replied. 'What???' exclaimed Dave. 'Teasers!' Jim repeated. Then, Dave came over later on Fri (when we went to Gandalfs) and told us about Jim at Teazers. Collen was all like 'What?? Jim!! At Teazers!! Must be Alastair who took him then, that's not like Jim'. I thought it was prolly Jim's work colleagues. So, Colleen and I rock up at Cool Runnings last night, and I ask Jim about his Teazers outing. He bursts out laughing and tells us he was just fucking with Dave. Then Waynne arrives, and also asks Jim about Teazers, saying that it was on the internet, so must be true points at previous day's post :P Damn, I love the way rumours spread :P Cool Runnings was awesome, we all got pretty wasted (except for Alex, who was drinking his perennial Coke) and were all laughing so fucking hard at any number of things. Not that's it's difficult to get drunk people to laugh :P Ended up playing the spinning shot glass game, where you put a shot glass on its side and spin it in an attempt to get it to go upright. Much hilarity. Oh, and waiter was fscking shit. He took about 7 years for anything, and then still got orders wrong. Jim's no less. Nice. Food was really nice, as always tho. People bailed, until we were left with a hardcore core of Al, Julie, Jim, Waynne, Colleen and myself. A suggestion was made to go drunken gambling at Gren Wes, which everyone thought was a great idea. So we went to play roulette, which was actually quite a lot of fun. There was a guy playing with us who was really cool, very friendly and ebullient and effusive (man, what is with the bog words today??), and dropping a lot of money. He ended up buying Waynne and I drinks on his MVG (Most Valued Gamer - meaning sucker who gives us lots of money) card. Al walked out with R600 on R250, Waynne with R400 on R100, and me with R200 on R0 :) Waynne gave me chips to play with when he was on a winning streak, about R50, and I ended up bringing back R300, R100 of which Waynne got back. Fair trade for everyone it seems :) Julie had less luck on the Blackjack tables tho, spending some money that Al gave her for safekeeping by mistake... D'oh! Oh well. After our numerous winning streaks, we decided it was time for breakfast (it was 4:30, after all :P), so we went back to Julie and Al's, where Al made us some much needed (and freshly ground - yummy!) coffee, and Julie made us a really kick-ass bacon and eggs breakfast. Thanks guys! It was an awesome night, and I hope Jim enjoyed it ^_^ 17 January 2004Happy birthday Jim :) Hope you've had a good one. What's this rumour I hear of Teazers? >:) Went to Gandalfs last night with Dave and Colleen, pretty cool. Half the regulars were like 'Hey, Jason, where you been? Haven't seen you in ages.' Didn't realize most of them even knew who I was. Oh well... freaky... Had fun, chatted to Dave and Mels for ages, got regaled with parental Karate stories, very interesting :) Hilz, Cass and Greg were also there, and Greg was sooo getting some, go Greg! Woohoo :) Today, been playing Diablo. Some more. Combat sorceress is so viable, at least in Normal difficulty. C'mon, Diablo players, sign up at SynKronosMultiDiablo! 16 January 2004Yay! Finished the bit of documentation they wanted us to do. Let's hope they don't give us some more to do :/ Well, atm they haven't given us anything more to do, so I guess it's a lazy day in Tableview for us. Hmmm :) Had yummy chocolate eclairs for breakfast, really awesome :) Colleen's been experimenting with baking, mostly successfully, and I get to reap the rewards... go me ^_^ Oh, and I'm planning on hosting a large multiplayer Diablo game sometime soon... will erect a signup/discussion page at SynKronosMultiDiablo. Anyone who's interested, check it out. 15 January 2004Eh, work is so boring at the moment. We are documenting code, cos Erika in the US hasn't had time to sort out real stuff for us to do. So needless to say, I am catching up on a lot of news and activities online (not updating my Wiki page tho, it seems). Synergies in Diablo are great. I'm busy building a combat sorceress, with masses of enchant and warmth (which gives a damage bonus to enchant for each level). Lets see if it's feasible, or if she just gets her ass handed :P Oh, and I almost forgot :) Made the most kick-ass thai-style curry last night, from this cool vegetarion cookbook my mom gave to colleen. Really easy too, and quick. All the important things ^_^ 2 January 2004Ah yes, what a great day to be at work... wonderful. And just to make matters so much better, the boss comes in, checks his mail and goes: "Oh, damn. I wish James had phoned me. 'They can have Friday off', James said." Thanks. Great. Guess I'll spend an hour getting back home then. Good going. Anyway, enough sarcasm for one page. The first New Year's party I went to ended at about 10pm, cos everyone was too smashed to do anything - now that's a good party :P I wonder how many of them actually made it to 12. Then went thru to Conrad's. nice house :) Was quite fun. Happy New Year everyone :) I'm off home. Back to SynKronos |
