What is the SCA?

The SCA is an international organisation dedicated to recreating the fun bits of the middle ages. This includes bashing people over the head with sticks, as well as more courtly pursuits. As well as regular events, the local Shire of Adamastor also hold feasts and other fun evenings.

Events are announced on this page and via the mailing lists mentioned below (see An invitation from Garsiyya al-Qurtubi). For regular events see the Shire calendar.

If you have any queries ask d@vid (aka David Eikonoklasmos), your friendly neighbourhood Chatelaine, or contact the relevant Shire officer or post 'em on SocietyForCreativeAnachronismQuestions.

CLAWs and the SCA

You can find an introduction to the SCA in CLAWmarks18?. (There is also a bit of an introduction at SocietyForCreativeAnachronismQuestions.) The local shire was founded in part by CLAWmembers (read about it in the shire history). There are a number of OldOnes who are SCA members, and on occasion innocent youngsters are drawn into the fold. The ClawWiki in fact began with an ScaQuestionaire thingey (now out-of-date).

An invitation from Garsiyya al-Qurtubi

Greetings, welcome and salam to all good gentles. I, Garsiyya ibn Ibrahim ibn Sulaiman al-Qurtubi, bid you good health and an invitation to partake in the great Shire of Adamastor's fun, revelry and entertainments, which always remind me very much of my great homeland al Andalus.

There are many methods of keeping informed in the goings on of the great Shire of Adamastor. The simplest being my personal offer of keeping you informed between one to three times a month via this scribely means. I shall share with you directly what we are doing - be it fencing, feasting, singing, science, arts or tournament or any other medieval event that we as members of the Society for Creative Anachronism chose to research or recreate. If you wish to take up this offer, please email me at Garsiyya_al_Qurtubi@yahoo.co.uk and I will be honoured to keep you informed.

Alternative methods to keep in touch with the goings on in this fairest shire in the Kingdom of Drachenwald include:

  • The Adamastor web page at http://www.adamastorshire.co.za
  • The calendar may be found at http://www.adamastorshire.co.za/calendars/calendar.html
