Yes, hello d@vid too :). Sheesh. All these clamouring fans. Who knew? Keep checking this page for dates of my world tour, coming soon to a bed near you. Also, book signings now happening at your nearest coffee-shop, where I'll be signing your, umm, napkins, or asses, or what have you.

w00t! New spec city! Upside: cool purple frames. Downside: had to get up at 6.40 to make my 8am appointment. Bleh. Zombie-jo. Chuuuuuuuuuuuuub. Oooh! Coffee!! I love our tealady :).

Tuesday 29 June 2004

Sorry, Adam, didn't know you actually read this :). So here's a shout out to my No.1 (out of a total of 1) fan! w00t! - GeekDotNeo

  • oy, do you have to plonk comments in the middle of your blog to get a response or something? ;) - see query about Sushi Zone waaaay below - d@vid June 29 2004

To recap: Friday (18th) did nothing, really. Umm, Jason came round to look at the pc. Then we went back to his place to watch movies with Stu and Colleen. For details, read his blog. I couldn't be bothered to go look to see what happened. Nothing else springs to mind immediately as particulary interesting (she writes, possibly dissing ppl she's seen and done stuff with but can't remember). Mostly doing stuff with Panda, playing Magic with Jason, watching vids there. Ooh! Went to see Krakatoa on Saturday (26th). They are a cool band that plays surf-rock/blues stuff. Ivan, Alan, Ben and John. They are really cool. I'm such a groupie. Jo (other Jo, obviously) is going to make me a member of Band-Aid. Heh. The gig rocked. They rock. Did I mention how cool they are? Hmm, totally perve Alan. Before that, went to lunch with panda at the Fat Cactus. They have a kittie! Oh, and their food is good too. But kitties are important.

Getting new specs soon. Cool purple ones. As well as 3rd set of contacts. The other 2 sets didn't fit properly. I hope these new ones do, cos there's only 5 sets I can try. Also, getting alarm installed on Saturday. At 9 in the morning. Bleh. Other than that, I don't think there's much to tell, really. I should keep a list of things I do, so that I can update this page with my latest doings and not forget anything. I know Adam's just dying to see what I've been up to lately :P.

Thursday 17 June 2004

It's been ages since my last update, I know, but the lack of clamouring for new info has led me to believe that no-one reads this so I don't feel at all bad. SCREW - YOU!!! - GeekDotNeo (who's always looking forward to your (plural) blogs) Hah. So, to recap since last update:

Went to see Wyrd Sisters with Erica and ppl. Was cool. Very condensed, if you hadn't read the book you would've gone "Huh? What's going on?" I think. Umm, the SCA thing on the Saturday was cool. So many n00bs. I am leet n00b-wrangler. Then went to sister's housewarming. Man, her gf's wiener-dogs are sooo cute. We left before they hauled out the karaoke machine, unfortunately :P. Umm, Sunday stayed home with Panda, went to watch Troy. Was soooo cool! Tiny leather skirts! Yay! Mmmm, Brad Pitt. I don't mind terribly that they deviated from the original story. I have this view about movies based on books: If you want accurate story, read the book. Also, at the end of Troy they say "Inspired by Homer's The Iliad". So. Umm, then Sidrianna came over to do Pc stuff. Well, Simon did PC stuff, Ada and I watched "Big Trouble in Little China", a really cheesy 80's fantasy-esque film with Kurt Russell and ppl in. It's sooo funny. Evil Chinese wizards evidently have lairs that look just like gay disco-bars. Eeek.

Monday, umm, Nadine came over for dinner. We lay in bed and vegged with TV. Was great. Tuesday, went to optometrist. Got eyes tested. Went back on Friday to get contacts. Argh. They are soo irritating, but I'm getting so much better at putting them in. From half an hour on Saturday morning to 5 minutes this morning. Oh, and I have the Torric lenses for astigmatism, which means that they're slightly weighted on the bottom to keep in the right position. Which also means that if you put them in the wrong way round (inside out) they hurt like a motherfucker. Which I thought I did this morning. Then the phone rings, so it was a few minutes before I could take it out to check. But it was just an eyelash underneath. Horrible. Umm, after Tuesday.. Wednesday! I forget what I did. Thursday had sushi with panda for dinner. Then went to Stones for Nadine's birthday thing. Was cool. Friday I forget. Oh, right, got contacts. Then went to this dodgy club in Obs for a kick-boxing social with the ppl that Phleep trains with. So dodgy. Blue lights. Too much smoke-machine. Middle-aged couples jazz-dancing to early 90's music. Gagh. Saturday went to see "The Butterfly Effect" with Erica. Was a surprisingly cool movie. Good idea, and Ashton Kutcher wasn't totally horrible. Then went for lunch at Cubana Cafe. Was goood. Watched the rugby (we roxxored). Then went to see "Harry Potter" with Ivan et al. Was good. But I also think that if you haven't read the book you will be lank confused by the Marauder stuff. But it was shiny, and the graphics were sooo much better. That hippogryph is sooo cool. And the Nazgul, I mean Dementors, were creepy. Umm, Sunday, vegged. It was all rainy. Watched TV alot and cuddled panda and kitty.

I took Monday and Tuesday off, so I had a 5-day weekend. Was great. Went into town on Monday to meet Erica for lunch. Had good soup. Then went and bought boots, so that I would have at least one pair of shoes that didn't let water in. Need more shoes. Then went home and vegged before going to Andrew's house to see him and Cara after their trip to Spain. Was very cool, had Mexican platters from Fat Cactus. Yummy chili poppers. Tuesday went to Stellenbosch on the train with Phleep. He had to go get a book from the library. The train trip was cool, pretty countryside and wildlife (reindeer!). Stellies is a very pretty town. Lots of poppies tho. Had a pie from this cool pie-shop. While waiting outside library for Phleep, I saw Markus's dad, Johann! I'd totally forgotten he was studying there. Was cool to see him, it's been ages. And was eve weirder cos I'd just finished sms-ing Markus about seeing him that night! Then Phleep and I went and had lunch at the Dros. Was ok. Did some touristy shopping. Very very pretty town. Then came home. Went to Benkei-sushi for all you can eat. Was sooo good. The veg yakitori rocks. And the sushi is good. I ate so much that my tummy was swollen. I swear we ate half of Japan's rice supply or something. And between the guys (Phleep, Markus, Andrew and Michael) they finished off 5 carafes of sake. But it was soooo goood. Yesterday was dad's birthday, so went to folks for a braai. Was cool. Will go there again on Sunday for Father's Day. Usually my dad's bday fall on Father's day, but not this year. So inconvenient, really :P. Lick 'n stick at Jess's last night. Maybe the last one ever. If not last, then second last. They're moving the distribution of Dragon's Tale to Europe, cos it's cheaper to send it from there. No more Lick 'n Stick Gnomes :(. If you see a person on the side of the road, looking forlorn, with a sign saying "Will lick for stamps", please be kind.

So today, back to work. Only person in the admin dept tho. So work = online wabbing all day. Bleh. But tomorrow is Friday! Yay!! And I get to go home early! Going to the optometrist for the one-week trial checkup. I think if he asks "How's it going?" I'll say "well, I still have both my eyes, right? Haven't clawed them out yet". I need to get some specs too, as backup. They have these cool 50's pink and green ones. Very Gary Larson. Or Elton John. Not sure. We'll see.

  • walked past the sushi zone in lower main road today and had a look at their menu... prices seemed okay - have you been there? any good/bad/indifferent/ugly? -- what's wrong with poppies? you should have collected some for next rememberance day or spiked the panda's next meal or something -- I don't think sushi zone is chinese, so I'm guessing they don't spike the sushi - d@vid June 17 2004
  • poppies, david. not poppies. get it right! - GeekDotNeo again

Wednesday 2 June 2004

Hmm, once again with the week's interlude. Guess my life's just not interesting enough to update more frequently. So, to recap since last week: Wednesday night parents came over for dinner, took me to Spur. I was very angry with their schnitzel deal, which has been halved. But, I've ranted about that enough. Wrote them a nasty email, got a very apologetic, but unhelpful, response. Grr. Then Thursday, umm, I forget. Then Friday, the day of doom, we get robbed. I'm at work, having a nice tea-party to celebrate us getting new offices, when my landlady calls. She says "I have bad news, your flat's been broken into" I go "omg, how's my cat". Priorities. So, rush home. Lots of stuff been taken. Tv, microwave, hi-fi, pc, P's bass (that was a 21st birthday present from his parents and is irreplaceable), the bass amp, vera's classical guitar, my little silver money box, my new boots, P's Cornish oilskin coat, P's spanky suitcase that was a group present before he went overseas, his Swatch Irony (a present from his employers in the UK), his collection of antique knives, some old cell phones, all his cds, our pc headphones. Some other stuff, probably, that we haven't discovered missing yet. You don't really know what small things are gone till you look for them. So, yeh, pretty sucky. I don't hold out much hope of the Keystone Cops finding anything. P has already informed second-hand shops and music shops of the bass and that it's stolen, so if it surfaces it'll be easy to track down. I feel bad for my sad panda.

Other than that, the weekend was ok. Sidrianna took us to their place for dinner and brain-snatching on Friday night. Was going to go to the Kingswood thing, but wasn't really in the mood for millions of ppl. Saturday, after a surprise visit from D@vid and Yanke, we went to a braai at Steven's place. Was cool. Sunday, went to folks, dad took me for first driving lesson. Fear me, mortals!! It went ok, my dad says I'm a natural. So, hopefully driving by the end of the year. Muhahah, the power.

Umm, Monday: worked, vegged. Tuesday: worked, vegged. Today: work, will veg. Bleh, my life suxxors. Looking forward to the w.e: Wyrd Sisters on Friday (Erica's taking me, she's my sugar-mommy), SCA on Saturday then sister's party, more driving (my dad insane) on Sunday.

Wednesday 26 May 2004

It's been a week since my last confession :P. Umm, in that week I've made lots of garb. Like, lots. I can't wait to see the pics. It's so gratifying to see the finished product on ppl. Yanke gave me a big choccie, which was nice. Marathon sewing continued until late Friday night (1.30am to be exact). Saturday, met Erica at Cav for lunch and movie. She took me to the Thai noodle place in the foodcourt, Simply Asia. Omfg, their noodles are prontastic! I had the glass noodle with veg and tofu. Mmmmmmmm. So yumm. Then we saw "Japanese Story". It's one of the best films I've seen this year. It's absolutely amazing. Simon will disagree with everything I say about this movie, so don't ask him about it. The reasons I loved it were the reasons he hated it. I really hope Toni Collette (also in Muriel's Wedding) gets an award. Other than that, Stacey's birthday party on Saturday night was a 20's party. Very cool outfits by some ppl. Noether's kittens are soooo cute! Castor and Pollux. Sunday: slept late, made greasy fry-up breakfast, cuddled Panda lots. Watched TV. Monday: worked. Tuesday: worked. Today: worked. Notice a pattern? :P

Busy opening an account on Kingdom of Loathing. I think this might be a mistake. I'll let you know.

Wednesday 19 May 2004

I finished "Bimbos of the Death Sun" last night. Hmm, well, what can I say about this fine piece of writing? Nothing, cos it's not. At all. It's the crappest shit I've ever read, and I'm including incoherent drunken phrases scrawled in a subway tunnel by a vagrant with his own faeces. It's so bad, I can't believe anyone ever published it. But then, it is put out by TSR, and it reads like a bad D&D module. The fantasy-con humour is funny, and there are lots of in-jokes, but these are all explained to death for a "non-gamer character" ie. dumb Americans, thereby ruining all their in-jokey goodness. The characters are amusing, if shallow, and the setting is different. But the plot! Omfg. It's like a ruler. Straight, boring, no twists whatsoever. That's probably so aforementioned Dumb Americans could follow it. They think they have put in a surprise "guess who the killer" is, but, alas, no. I could tell whodunnit from the first time he appeared in the story. I bet there were people across the USA going "nooo! no ways! whoda thunk?". And the method of finding out! Jessica Fletcher would've been proud. Ripped straight from Hamlet, though. In Hamlet they stage a play, and the murderer reveals himself by his reaction. Well, in this gem, it's a D&D game. And, surprise surprise, our Mystery Murderer (no, not the "Murderer of Mysteries" - that would be the author) reacts in the exact way predicted by the super-sleuth (aka the norm character who had to have everything explained to him). So, yeh, I knew who the killer was in the first 20 pages, but I read to the end, hoping that they'd prove me wrong, or at least take an interesting route. No such luck, I'm afraid. The worst thing is, the norm character in the book keeps being embarassed because he wrote a hard sci-fi book that got a bimbo-cover and a stupid title (BotDS?), but for all the author's looking down on cheap pulp spank-fatasy, her book is exactly that. It may have a different location (a fantasy convention) and some amusing moments, but it's really just a pathetic attempt at a real-life D&D module.

The moral of the story? Avoid this book. Do not read it, do not be enticed by the scantily-clad barbarian alien-woman on the front and do not believe the snippets of reviews which say "... hilariously funny...". They obviously left out the "Omg, this book could not be farther from..." and "It's ... that she thought anyone would buy this shit!". Save yourselves, please.

maybe you weren't around when i was sending around "mind rape" on #claws... i have a copy if you want >D it's so bad it's funny, but it takes a while for the pain to numb : let me know if you're interested - GeekDotNeo

Monday 17 May 2004

Hello folks. It's been an interesting weekend. Friday, went out with Nadine, had a cool time, found out some disturbing news. Sigh. Damn this crowd, so incestuous. The Goth and the Gormless. Days of our Angst. Or something. Saturday, umm, slept realllly late, then met Phleep on the train to go to Toby's birthday thing at the Brass Bell in Kalk Bay. Was cool, surprisingly. James and I didn't end up strangling each other across the table. It seems that uniting against a common enemy helps :). Saw Nikki ~McQueen?, who was wierded out when I said "yeh, I also work for the DA". Hehe. Neil's party was very cool, good soup, good convo (Butternut Gun!) and a coool colouring book. Oh, and Neil and Karen are pregnant! Yay!!! Babies!!! I love babies, and not in the "on toast" way, either. I have already volunteered my baby-sitting experience. Now, to start knitting baby-clothes. Awwwww! Tiny booties!!!! Babies!!!!!! Ahem. Sunday, slept late again, woke up, Phleep and I took a stroll to Starke Ayres to get some bulb-planting apparatus. It was such a nice day to be walking with a loved one. Then, came home, made stir-fry and noodles for lunch, went to Alma to buy stuff for Peppermint-crisp-caramel tart thing. Mmmm. Then, planted bulbs. Hope they grow. I have more experience with veggies. Have put up little signs: "Do not disturb, flowers sleeping". Supper at Jess's was goooood. Mmmm, roast chocken and veggies and creme caramel! My favoritest dessert ever! Damn Eckie and his white chocolate liquer. Yumm.

Looking forward to costuming on Wednesday, it's nice to be able to froth about a relatively obscure hobby to mundanes (ppl not involved in SCA). It's one of the few things I know lots about. So when all my friends are going on about something techie, I think to myself "I'll bet they don't know the difference between a truncated hennin and a butterfly headress". So, yeh, see some of you then. Other than that, not much happening this week. Started reading "Bimbos of the Death Sun", a book Roo loaned me ages ago, it's very funny. Murder mystery set at a fantasy convention. Roo, remind me to give you your books back :P.

You have my "Bimbos of the Death Sun"??? Oh is that where it went to... whew!! Um... yeah... remember to give it back to me when you are done... or at least tell the next person you lend it to that they must return it to me... um... just write my name in the inside cover, and let's see how long it takes to get back to me ;-) - ShadowsLight
  • currently listening to Zetsubo by MUCC (japanese metal band, so cool)

Friday 14 May 2004

Another Friday rolls around, and, like a Vietnam vet on the side of the street, cranky and arthritic, my weekend starts off with a hack and a cough, and a pain in the knee caused by shrapnel. Ok, so maybe not the shrapnel bit. The cold weather of late has made my knee hurt. But, I have a Top Deck, which by the end of this update will be no more, and a kitty (who has fallen into the suitcase and cannot get out). Phleep is reading his varsity books, so I can't disturb him. I'm bored. Hoping to go out with Nadine later, but probably going to end up calling her and cancelling to stay in bed and sleep. Sleep is good. I had the coolest dream last night, very Evangelion. There were giant biological robots and all. It was cool. Nothing much planned for the weekend, going to do some gardening tomorrow, then maybe to Brass Bell for Toby's birthday thing, then Neil's party. Sunday, probably more mooching, and Lick 'n Stick at Shire Central. I miss Fysshe. We got two really cool bookcases from Michael the other night, and they look really cool in the lounge. Now just to pack all our books in. Soon the lounge will be like I want it. Muhahah. But for now, messiness reigns. And that's all, folks.

Ps: for anyone having costuming issues about the Vampire larp, medieval costuming is a hobby, so feel free to email me at firstfallen@hotmail.com for ideas and garb :)

  • maybe we should organise an emergency Arts & Sciences meeting for those that want to make some costumes? we should discuss this on monday or before - *d@vid May 15 2004*

Monday 10 May 2004

Bleh, I hate Mondays. Was so cold this morning, I just wanted to stay in bed and snuggle with Panda. But, I have to work. It's boring as hell, but it pays for my expensive cat-habit. Weekend was cool, stayed in on Friday, watched some TV, cuddled Panda. Slept latish on Saturday morning, went to second-hand bookshop in Mowbray to get a pressie for my mom for Mother's Day. Got her two biographies. Then met Phleep and Michael at Cavendish to see Van Helsing. Soooo cool! It's very entertaining, not the best plot ever, but soo shiny. But if I wanted plot I wouldn't go see comic-adaptation movies. Igor is my favorite character: "Igor, why do you torment him so? Don't you know, do unto others..." "Before they do unto you, Master", and "Igor, why have you betrayed me?" "It's what I do". Then had cake and stuff at M&B. Then went home, napped for a bit, then to Lucas's thing. Started out kinda bleh, got very cool though. Thanks for a great party, Lucas and Si. Saw ppl's I hadn't seen in ages. Made cheesy-poofs (I am the cheesy-poof queen!). Went home, didn't get eough sleep before my sister picked me up in the morning to go see parents. Bleh, I really hate spending time there. It's not that I hate my folks, but I have a wicked older stepsister, and she and my mom fight alot, so it's not pleasant. Saw my sister's girlfriend's cute little wiener-dogs though. They're so funny-looking! Like stretched rats. Heheh. That was about it. Got home, watched TV, some IRC, then watched "The Running Man" on etv. Hadn't seen it before, very cool. Love that 80's sci-fi. All spandex and big hair, all the time. Went to sleep. Ummm, that's all she wrote, I guess.

Friday 7 May 2004

It's been a while, so here's the latest. Ummm, not much hugely exciting recently. The aforementioned weekend was cool. Sushi was leet. Kathy's baby is soooo cute! (steal) :P. The housewarming was good, saw Markus!! Yay!! Haven't seen him in yonks, really missed him. Cute kitten too (steal). Markus came to sushi too, was realllllly cool to see him so much after the long drought. Didn't buy pants or bake pies. Borrowed American Gods, so been reading that. Finally done. It's ok, not the best by Neil Gaiman. I much prefer his short-stories. Getting Coraline soon. Hope it's good. Umm, last w/e chilled on the Friday, did SCA stuff on the Saturday (whee, Black Adder!), watched Elizabeth on video on Sunday afternoon, had Jason and Colleen over for chow mein and mahjong in the evening. Was cool, got schoooooled by Colleen.

Recently, been a bit miffy. Quit singing for the time being, we'll see if I feel like going back. It's just not fun anymore. Been working lots. Reading. Erica came over last night. Bit of a bad start (her cell phone got snatched out of her bag at CT station), then we went home and made risotto (hmmm, really yumm). Watched Hackers, hadn't seen it in a while. Then we went to sleep. I need to get proper "people staying over" stuff, like bedding for the futon couch. Thanks for the loan of the sleeping bag, J :P. Managed to get to work on time today. Vaguely excited about the Leader coming to tea (Tony Leon, for those not on IRC regularly). Plans for the w/e: vegging tonight, hopefully go watch Van Helsing tomorrow, parent stuff on Sunday. Going for first driving lesson with Dad then. Whee. Phear, ppl :P.

Friday 23 April 2004

So, audit nearly done. More time for me to fuck around on the net and irc again :P. Looking forward to a busy weekend: visiting Andrew and Cara in their new house tonight, then shopping for sushi stuff tomorrow morning, then a meet-n-greet for Kathy Manchip at lunch, then Julie&Al's housewarming tomorrow night, then sushi on Sunday night. Shoo. It hasn't even started yet and I'm already tired. Umm, other than that, not much. Hoping to go buy some pants that actually fit me. It's nice to lose 30kg, but none of my pants fit me now. And I need a cool skirt to go with my new spank-boots. I think I'll bake some pies on Sunday during the day. They freeze well, and then I can have impressive supper on demand if ppl suddenly drop by :).

Monday 19 April 2004

So, umm, yeah, the elections. I voted, did my bit for the country, as opposed to some ppl who whine about how the country is going to shit yet don't want to try to change it. The DA didn't win. But they still are the official opposition in every province. Got Friday off, laid in bed all day with panda, watched some taped UK tv. Very funny stuff. Then Simon and Ada came over to play the LotR? version of Risk. Simon roxxored, after 8 hours of play, and it would've taken longer if the Ring hadn't got to Mount Doom. At various points I soooo wanted to yell "Blitzkrieg!". But I didn't. No one would've got it :(. Then Saturday, more bed-lying. Mmmm, snuggly panda. Then Nadine, Lucas and Claire came over for coffee and supper. Was good. We went to One Ring, but it was lame, cos everyone who's anyone was at a goth party in Stellenbosch. Apparently. We saw Antonio, and he hadn't even opened Mordor cos he knew ppl would be in Stellies. Went home early-ish (2am).

Sunday morning, woke up at 8.30 to be picked up at 9 to go to church for cousin's baby's christening. So, all dressed up, phone mom, mom says "oh, we're still in bed, we'll skip the church, pick you up at 10.30". Thanks mom, could've had another 2 hours sleep. But I made yummy eggy-breads. Then went to cousin's house for eats. Man, sooo much food. My aunt broke out in cake, it seems. Tripped, fell, and baked 5 cakes. But I showed Phleep my christening gown, as first worn by my dad 51 years ago. Still looks good. My aunt was making "helpful suggestions" all day, like "no ring yet?" (meaningful look at Phleep), and "it's here, waiting for you" about the gown. Hehehe, Phleep looked a little uncomfortable. But my cousin's baby is soooo cute! So, then came home, went to a braai at Ivan's, came home, went to Lick 'n Stick at Jess's. Mmmmm, Jess's sticky choc pudding.

Today, back to work. Bleh. Auditors again. Don't expect to see me on IRC for the week. The campaign manager organised a lunch at work today. Mmmmm, chicken lasagne. Mmmm, chocolate mousse. I got a dumb certificate (everyone at NHO did) to show the party's appreciation for all our hard work during the elections. I was thinking "ok, give us a raise, not just a lunch and certificate". Bleh. Am hoping to make sushi again this Sunday, wanting to try out tamago and hand-rolls. I are like to be making sushi. And eating it. Damn, hungry now. Ramen!!!

Tuesday 13 April 2004

Sheesh, phones are maaaaaaaaaaad today! Yesterday was worse, cos I had to work on a public holiday. Bleh. Only for a few hours though. Gods, I hate answering the phone. Milllllions of calls. And all about the same thing. I can't believe people have waited till the day before the elections to find out if they are registered or not! "Can I still register to vote tomorrow?" Damn! But anyway, enough work ranting.

Rundown of recent events: Thursday went to Pancho's with Jason, Colleen, Colleen's sister Karen, Dave, Ross, Jim and Panda. Had nachos. Mmmmm, nachos. Then went to Cool Runnings for coctails. Man, evil Gargleblasters! Reduced the guys to adolescent playground humour. Ask Ross about getting his car out of the garage :). Friday went to Neil's to work on J's card. It's very scary, but cool. Then in the evening to Sidrianna's for coffee and games. There's this evil game on Si's laptop called Gnotski. It's the devil. Saturday went shopping for last of J's birthday presents and cake stuff. Then to their flat to bake cake, then home to wrap pressies. Then back to paaaahtie! Went well, I think he liked the millions of presents. The cake was good, but it was concentrated sugar-rush. Party was cool, saw some people I haven't seen in a while, which was cool. Then home, cos I was exhausted from all the planning and stress. Sunday went to parents for Easter braai. Lots of eggies and caramello bears. Yumm! Then to Sidrianna's again to make sushi. I am getting so l33t at California rolls. They were sooo goood. Then some more of that evil game. Monday came in to work for a bit, then SCA dancing. Then to Spur with Sidrianna for burgers. Then home to play Universalis with D@vid. It's cool as a once-off, but I can't imagine campaigning it. It's like that game you play as a kid, where each person gets to make up the next bit of the story. Really cool concept.

So, now I sit at work. Bleh. Working tomorrow too. But I get Friday off. And another day sometime in the future, think I might take it around Icon, so I can go up to JHB. I'll prolly fly though, as I'm so not keen to drive. We'll see.

Thursday 8 April 2004

Well, after a long absence of wiki, I find I need to update. Not that I update all that regularly anyway, so have no justifiable reason for missing the wiki. But it's interesting to read what other ppl write. Anyway, so, umm, lately. Yeh, Firefly was cool, despite childish behaviour by some. Really pissed off about Limp Bizkit. Had to find another present for the Jason, but have it sorted, and it will soon be winging its way here from the States, to arrive in July sometime. I hope he likes it. Otherwise, most of the preparations for the birthday are done (for those in the know: Muhahahahah!). Now, just to bake a cake. Umm, got a sushi book. Late bday pressie from Jase. Going to try it out, there's a vague plan for Sunday. Other than that, not much. Kitty lost a tooth, broke it, had to be rushed to vet. Had an operation, poor kitty. Speaking of kitties! Al's new kitty is soooo tiny! It's like a rat. But cuter. And it goes "meep". I walked in and said "where's the rest of it?". It's adorable. Must steal it :P.

Umm, yeh, looking forward to long weekend. Need a break from hectic work schedule. Damn election. Blerg. Hoping this is a good weekend. Many important things happening. Like J's bday, Easter (egggs! yay!), and lots of bed time while it rains. Mmmm, snuggly rainy weather.

Thursday 11 March 2004

Well, work is maaaad at the moment. Stupid election, bring all the loonies out of the woodwork. For example: "Can you give me Tony Leon's birthdate? You see, I vote by Chinese Horoscope, and I see that Marthinus van Schalkwyk is an Earth Pig, which is a very interesting character." I mean, WTF?? Sheesh, the future of our country is in these people's hands. Ahh, democracy. Every psycho gets a vote. That's why in Pandwanaland, I just decide what's best for my peoples. None of this voting nonsense.

Been watching lots of NGE this week. Very cool. Although, one thing I've noticed about anime series: they start off all light and fluffy, pr0n here, sexual innuendo there, then suddenly you get thrown into the government plot and there's DOOOOOOM and DEEEAAATH and DESTRUCTION!!! (And, after watching the rest last night, lots of existentialist angst). Sheesh. But it's cool. Like Ada said, at least there's a plot. Can't wait for Phleep to come home tho. Looking forward to Limp Bizkit.

Other than that, not much. Wekking, having a ratty time with Phleep gone, being generally miff. I might go to TNM tonight, I'll see how sociable I'm feeling. At the moment though, not very.

Umm, a relatively unexciting week. Well, except for TDYHE on Monday. Tuesday saw Take 2, with Phleep, Ada, Simon and myself going to the Waterfront to watch Love Actually. After standing in line for half an hour, some realllllly bad food, and spilling mango juice all over myself (not quite as much fun as it sounds), the movie was great. I'm not a big fan of romcoms, but this one was witty, original and funny. There were also some really sad bits. For those of you who've seen it, the signs at her door on Xmas eve. Omg. I was sobbing into my mango-flavoured sleeve. Wednesday was relaxing, we stayed in, got an early night.

Thursday I went with to Thursday Night Magic at Jason's. It was cool, I made vegetable lasagne (an experiment which turned out surprisingly well) and apple crumble (an old favorite which would take considerable effort and skill to fuck up). Food was enjoyed by starving Magic players. Seems that sitting on your ass shuffling all those heavy cards takes a lot of energy :P. It's a pleasure, guys, it's always nice to be appreciated. I like to do stuff for ppl, and while I don't expect a parade, a thank you makes me feel loved.

Last night went out for some quality time with Jason. We went to Pancho's for dinner, then to The One Ring for pool (I schooooled J!) and chatting. After almost falling asleep on the couches, we decided it was time to go home. Before midnight. Sheesh, we're getting old. Speaking of which, only a month and 5 days left till someone turns 24! What you want for your birthday, J? Tonight, going to the Palace of Spankiness (those of you who were at Phleep's bday party will know of what I speak) for Michael Streatfield's bday party. Looking forward to expensive wine, expensive food and general good conversation.

Tomorrow, going shopping with Jason and Colleen at Makro. Seems to be becoming the Thing To Do on a Sunday morning. I still have R50 left of my vouchers after spending most of them last week and giving Chelle R400. Wooden spoons, you will be mine. And some rice, probably. Maybe I'll just spend it all on white Easter eggs. Mmmmm. In sadder news, Phleep going to be in Stellenbosch all of next week :(. Well, at least I'll get time to watch all those NGE episodes I borrowed from J.

Here is the story of an evening of horror. It starts with Simon, Adrianna, Philip and myself trying to take advantage of the Spur/Labia Theatre special (2 tickets + 2 burgers for R50). But, already running a bit late, we go to the Spur, and see the sign that says "Collect vouchers when buying tickets". That, and the long queue at the Spur, prompted us to forget that plan.

We opt for Cantonese and go to Tong Lok, which is nearby. The food is oily, and the sushi mediocre. When we go back to the car, we discover it's clamped. There are signs saying that parking is 30 minutes, whereafter your wheel will be clamped. Now, these signs aren't particularly big, or visible, or noticeable. And, the lady who clamped the wheel was not there when we arrived. So we walk out to the car, and we hear from behind us "excuse me, but your wheel's been clamped". We turn around to find this skanky trailer-trash female sitting on a plastic chair, who then demands R200 from Simon to take the clamp off. It wasn't well-constructed, so Philip could probably have pulled it off, but Simon, being the law-abiding citizen that he is, pays up and we leave. Simon was fuming.

A plan emerges to get a DVD to watch at Ada's. The first shop we go to is in Gardens Centre. After parking and walking through the centre, we find it's closed. So we "redeploy", as Philip kept saying. There was a lot of climbing into and out of the back of Simon's Beetle. I felt a bit like a clown. Off to the next shop, a Mr Video where Ada's parents have an account. She doesn't have the card with her, so after a long time choosing a movie, we have to wait 30 minutes while she opens her own account. They want 3 references they could phone who could verify Ada's address. Now, normally this wouldn't be a problem, but how many of you know her address? So she gives some numbers, they phone, it's ok, and we leave. Sheesh. Outside Ada's place, Simon's car gets stuck on the road. So Philip, Ada and I climb out, and Simon tries to get unstuck from the road, scraping his bumper horribly. Then he notices one of his baffles missing. We look everywhere, but no sign, so we figure it must've fallen off somewhere else.

Finally inside, we laugh hysterically for a while, otherwise we would've cried. The movie is great (Brotherhood of the Wolf). Mmmm, Mark Dacascos. Mmmm, l33t Amerindian Ninja Skills. It's in French, but has subtitles. The bad guy is so uber-goth he even wears a corset. Kinda reminds me of Bruce :P. The interview with this "historian" on the special features is hilarious. He realllly loves wolves. And they're innocent, apparently. And have 4 legs. When we leave, we discover it had been "a dark and stormy night". Kinda fitting.

Well, that was it. What started off badly, then went downhill, ended up being really cool. Good movie, good conversation, bad karma. The rest of the week better be fucking amazing.
