Summary of the Known World

You are all denizens of a realm known as the Known World, which is a collection of (underwater) highlands surrounding six groups of islands. Outside the Known World are the inhospitable Outer Lands, areas of deep water inhabited by dragons (most of whom are hostile) and other unpleasant monsters.
The largest single landmass in the Known World is approximately the size of South Africa. This is mainland Talenantar, a giant forest tended by land elves and dryads which supplies all of the surface world's wood. The second largest landmass (much smaller) is mainland Carragyn, in the group of islands with the same name. Carragyn is the Known World's prime seat of magic.
You are all in the waters surrounding north-western Carragyn. The Happy Badger Inn is located on the westernmost island of the group. The main sea powers in the vicinity are:
- Alabrintar, an elven kingdom known for its isolationism and paranoia, to the south.
- Halidru, a merfolk kingdom, to the south. Its capital city was sacked during a recent war with the sahuagin. It is famous for its great library (which fortunately survived).
- Xazrin, a sahuagin empire to the far south, in the waters surrounding the Isles of Sorrow.
- Lixixarilin, an ixixachitl stronghold near the Isles of Sorrow, to the far south.
- Firillantar, another, more friendly elven kingdom, to the south-east.
- Tamaridru, a morally dubious merfolk kingdom, in the Inner Sea to the east.
- Alcathlah, a free city of the locathah to the south-east.
- the Magical Academy of Cadarintal to the south-east.
- Vilidru, another merfolk kingdom that you don't know much about, to the north.
- Us'tarr, a shalarin kingdom in the Inner Sea to the north-east.
- Luuvasa, Thiliispa and Hiiluma, triton cities in the Inner Sea to the north-east.
- Zalhan, a small colony of non-evil malenti, to the north-east
