v0.2
Sarin is the elemental goddess of water (and to a certain extent earth). She
is the creator of dragons, tritons and elementals, and they make up most of her
followers. She is the oldest deity of the Known World.
Blagar has been worshipped by evil creatures such as morkoth, kraken and
ixixachitl since the dawn of time. It is said to reside in a hidden cavern in
the underdeep in its corporeal form - a massive undead kraken. Its priests are
often involved in necromancy and other dark magic.
The Three Gods and their subordinates, the moon goddesses, were brought to the
Known World by the elves in the First Invasion. Today this pantheon is the
world's majority religion.
Alabrin is the god of the sun. He dispenses justice and order. Shalarin
worship him as Ri'dea'brin, and most other non-elven followers know him as
Abrin.
Nanariel is the goddess of all the plants and animals of the sea. She
absorbed all the animal totems of the primitive merfolk and locathah religions,
and so they venerate her above all the other gods in the pantheon. Shalarin
call her Ri'dea'nan and other non-elves call her Nanri.
Calethrin is the god of the dry land and the skies, and of the dead (since the
land is the realm of the dead). His Shalarin name is Ri'dea'cal and other
non-elves call him Caleth.
Lannariel is the goddess of love, and Calethrin's daughter. She is the
goddess of the blue moon, and it bears her name.
Daeloth is Lannariel's corrupt sister, and the goddess of the red moon. She
is worshipped by evil people from all the races that can see the sky at night.
She is responsible for bad surface weather, and she is the creator of
lycanthropes.
See Slayers' Guide to Sahuagin for a description of the sahuagin religion.
The sahuagin names for the three gods are: Sekolah (He Who Eats), Rianagh (She
Who Teaches) and Kalazan (It That Is Eaten). All are CE.
The other deities of the Known World were once mortal men and women - they
ascended to godhood after attaining great power or prestige in the fields which
they represent. Most of the ascensions occurred during or shortly after the
Great War.
Varelai is the goddess of war. She was once a great elven warrior queen. She
founded Varelantar after the fall of Adralendrinor. She is worshipped by
soldiers and mercenaries everywhere, and her priesthood is led by her mortal
descendants.
Silhari is the goddess of knowledge. She was the great merfolk scholar of
the Narwhal clan who founded the Great Library of Halidru.
Cadarin is the god of magic. He was a powerful elven mage - he destroyed
Carrannon at the end of the Great War. He also founded the Magical Academy of
Cadarintal.
Halorian was a tail-less half-elven ranger and rogue of the Great War era. He
seemed to know everyone and was never seen twice in the same place. He is still
frequently sighted. He has piercing silvery eyes, and has passed on this trait
to his many offspring. As in life, after death he seems to be motivated by
obscure whims. He occasionally appears to his priests and sets them strange
tasks. He is worshipped by most boat people, and by travellers and outcasts of
all kinds.
Avannon was a powerful elven ranger and druid - the first overseer of
Talenantar. He planted the great oaks in Calen-Avannontal. He is worshipped by
Talenantar elves and dryads.
Livian was a cleric of Nanri from the Dugong clan of merfolk. She preached
pacifism and unity between the races. She was killed during the great war. She
is worshipped by pacifists and healers, and has a strong following within the
Dugong clan.
Karlen is reputed to have been the greatest bard of all time. He was a
merman from the Whale clan. He is worshipped by bards and other musicians, and
some sirines.
Nevir was an admiral in Cathlaigh's imperial navy during the Great War. After
his entire family perished in an attack by a dragon in the emperor's employ who
abruptly switched sides, Nevir deserted along with his entire crew and turned to
piracy, attacking mainly the emperor's navy vessels. He became the most
notorious pirate in history. His death was never recorded, and it is said that
his ship, the Bright Lady, still sails the Inner Sea. He is worshipped by most
pirates and some boat people.
Aldo is the god of halflings, and is also worshipped by some dwarves and
gnomes. He was a tailor from Faraedar who was deported to the Isles of Sorrow
with the rest of his people during the Great War. Legend has it that when he
arrived, the boats ferrying the halflings from the ships to shore were attacked
by sahuagin. When a sea-devil attempted to snatch a child out of Aldo's boat,
Aldo stabbed him in the eye with a large needle.
Darin is the god of dwarves, and is also worshipped by some gnomes and
halflings. He was a weaponsmith from Carragyn, and was deported to the Isles of
Sorrow during the Great War. It was he who searched for and found the mineral
deposits underneath the islands which saved the deportee colony from certain
destruction.
Hilga is the goddess of gnomes, and is also worshipped by some halflings and
dwarves. She was an alchemist from Calever, deported to the Isles of Sorrow
during the Great War.
Danaril was the matron mother of house Caedran, which she led to the known
world through the dimensional gate during the Second Invasion. She continues
the traditions of the cruel matriarchy established by long-forgotten old world
gods. She is worshipped mainly by deep drow, but she has also attracted many
female morkoth and some female ixixachitl.
Grathnar is the god of land goblinoids. He was a great warrior who led
goblinoid slaves in rebellion against Cathlaigh and established goblinoid
colonies in the Far Isles and Calever. He lost his right hand in battle and had
it replaced by a clawed hand made from iron.
Uthnarg is the god of koalinth and some merrow. He was a great koalinth
chieftain who led a massive horde on Adralendrinor lands during the Great War,
contributing significantly to the empire's collapse. He founded the Worldbreaker
clan.
