Gentlewoman cartographer, Roach-friend and velocipede captain Cynthia Payne-Liss'Xtk is welcome in any Tribe in the realm, but gives her allegiance to none. Born to economists Roger and Brunhilda Payne of Venlet Tribe during a recession, young Cynthia seemed doomed to follow her parents' footsteps into a career of Bazan stockpiling - which, as any Venlet Tribesman knows, is sensible but boring work which carries an associated risk of severe back strain. Cynthia ran away from home at the age of 13 to live among the mutant roach people of the Glass Plains. She was formally adopted by Nest Xtk after proving her mettle in a triathlon of sprinting, targetted spitting and charades - the first human ever to achieve this honour. Since then, she has worked tirelessly to improve friendly relations between man and roach. It is thanks to Cynthia that we have such detailed and accurate maps of our land, for exploring and cataloguing its most obscure reaches has been her passion since youth. She has gone where no-one else dares to tread, and won over even the surliest locals with her friendly smile (and where that has failed, a bag of shiny beads). Now, with the legendary All-Terrain Velocipede harnessed to her will, she can travel further, and into more dangerous territory, than ever before. She is seldom seen without one or two of her faithful roach companions, a quill and a large sheet of paper.
