DragonfireDemented

Dragonfire - 8th, 9th and 10th August 2003

News

  • The Dragonfire Demented website is now up. You'll find it at http://dragonfire.za.net/.
  • Since we do not have Women's (Womyn's/Womynn's/Wommin's/ Wimmin's/etc.) Day this year falling conveniently on a Friday, we will have to make do without it. Thus, the first module slot will be running on the Friday afternoon, with the first LARPs on Friday Evening. Besides, everyone leaves varsity at 13h00 anyway. Unless you have a Biology/Chemistry/Geophysical-Thermonuclear-Atomic Orbital prac or something. Or are unfortunate enough to have Friday afternoon lectures (which you canskip)!
  • We will more than likely be holding Dragonfire in the Kramer Law Building - the same place as last year.
  • More news will follow as we get it. Check regularly! : )

Modules

The theme for this year's Dragonfire (just in case you hadn't noticed) is Dragonfire Demented. So this is a perfect opportunity to get those EVIL module-writing ideas going. The sysytems we will be using this year are:

  • Call of Cthulhu (really, did you honestly think this one wouldn't be there?)
  • Dungeons & Dragons (3rd Ed.)
  • Unknown Armies (yes, my preciouussss!)
  • GURPS
  • (unknown)

Module Submissions

  1. Ideas: We are only looking for module ideas right now. If you have a great module idea, please let us know (details later)! We don't need a rough draft of the module, or any blurbs, just the core idea behind the module (in some detail, of course, so we can decide whether we like it). If you're worried about giving away too much, just remember that the Committee will probably playtest the final product anyway (in addition to your own playtests). Of course, you could just add a few surprises in, couldn't you? Please note that giving us your idea means that you are committing yourself to write us a module if you are chosen! (Just had to get that legalese out of the way) : P
  2. Theme: Since the theme is Dragonfire Demented, the module ideas should also be able to deal with and have the players going insane! Whether that be from Cthulhu-tentacled beasties, mind-warping surreal magicks, screwed-up David Lynch-style surrealism (with backwards-talking dwarves! Must have backwards-talking dwarves! Woot!) or simply "The Ring"-style horror (if you haven't seen it, shame on you!), put it in! Of course, they need not go insane; having the crap scared out of them is good enough. Also, the point is not to have all the players becoming gibbereing wrecks after 10 minutes of the module. As a sidenote, if the system doesn't have insanity mechanics (like DnD, for example), just make the module really scary/creepy/etc so the players go insane - like "The Ring" option above. Of course, this isn't endorsing "The Ring" clones, PLEASE!
  3. Details: Please send your module ideas to soulstice@webmail.co.za or deathjester@mailfly.com (both belong to Brendan - the CLAWthing - just in case Webmail is down/slow/being updated/whatever or something). I will forward the ideas to the rest of the Committee, I promise. Please give me a name and other contact details along with the module idea, so we can get back to you. The cut-off date for module ideas is Friday 28th March 2003. Please feel free to send ideas for multiple modules for multiple systems (if you are really creative this year!)
  4. The (Unknown) System: This is a system that you choose. So, if you really have a brilliant idea for a Shadowrun game, for instance, or a really fun game we haven't seen (like Asylum, where you can lose your marbles - yes, you play with marbles as part of the game!), send in the ideas. Of course, please don't send ideas for a game that none of us have the rules for - it's a bit silly. Skyrealms of Jorune, anyone? Say "Rolemaster" and I will personally hunt you down!

LARPs

For all the LARP junkies out there! We will have one of the following: 2 LARPs (Fri evening, Sat evening) or 2 LARPs on both nights. Of course, this depends on the number of LARPs we have available (that not everyone has played!). So, if any of you LARPwriters out there want to send us a LARP idea, please do so as well, following the guidelines for Modules. Naturally, your new LARP need not follow the theme. If it does, excellent! If not, well, we won't bite your head off! ; )

More Stuff...

Have no fear! More information will be added as it becomes available (it is only in August, remember!)
