Session 2
The air around the cave suddenly becomes chilly, and ice starts to form on that side of the river. The five
are spooked, and begin to run across the river for the other bank. Peri slips, and as Skin lifts her bodily
from the water, she feels a hand scrabble at her shirt. They make it across to the other bank, where Kevin is
coming around. Stumbling and cursing, the five children race out of the woods to the boat, with no regard for
the footprints they are leaving behind. it was a hand shaped twig damnit! definitely just a twig.-Skin
In the boat, they argue about what to do. Candice is determined to tip the police off, anonymously. The other
four are not convinced. Skin especially wants no dealings with the cops if he can help it.
At home that night, Candice finds that her reflection is not her own. The face staring back at her from the
mirror is that of a tribal warrior, war-painted and battered, her hands covered in blood. She grits her teeth
and turns her back on it, stoicly continuing with her homework before sinking into bed.
Peri walks into her room to find her Rob Zombie poster looking at her. He turns to follow her as she moves
around the room. The sound of a window banging from upstairs, and frantic whispering, gives her an excuse to
leave the room. Upstairs, she finds her stepmother visibly flustered, and notices a man's shoe beneath the
bed. Looking over at the window that just banged shut, she see her reflection for the first time. The woman
in the window carries a shotgun, and her kevlar vest is ripped and stained with her own blood. The blood on
her hands may not, however, be her own. Shaken, Peri leaves the room. In the bathroom, with the door locked,
she strips down to bra and panties, while her reflection does the same. She tries to dress the imaginary
wounds, but her efforts make no difference to the woman in the mirror. Mumbling an apology, she pulls on a
gown and runs back to her room. There she finds that Rob has murdered the inhabitants of the other posters.
She rips the poster from the wall, and an unearthly scream escapes the paper. Totally freaked out, she shreds
the poster, pieces of paper flying about her. She collapses in the wreckage, and falls into a fitful
sleep.
Jean-Marie's reflection is that of a knight, his sword bloody to the hilt. Jean-Marie vaguely wonders how he
is going to get dressed in the morning if this continues.
Skin sees the reflection of a wounded biker in a shop window. Smashing the window does not seem to have any
effect. From the shards of glass on the pavement, the biker stares back at him.
Kevin walks into his studio to find all his paintings and sketches alive, and violent. They are attacking
each other, and a dark figure stalks through all of them, murdering as he goes. Kevin can only watch as the
blood flows. His reflection is, strangely, his own.
Before school the next morning, Candice calls the police from a payphone in a quiet part of the town. She
walks away hurriedly as she hears sirens approaching in the distance. Upon arriving at school, she sees
something decidedly odd: some of the children appear to have bloody hands. Kevin and Jean-Marie notice this
too, and Skin looks down at his own hands, red to the wrist. A big kid with equally bloody hands picks a
fight with him, and he slips his right hand into the lining of his jacket. It comes out brassed, and a punch
to the jaw knocks the kid out cold. He walks away, slipping the brass knuckles into his jacket, whistling
nonchalantly. It isn't enough, though, and he is searched by a teacher, who finds nothing. Meanwhile, Kevin
has found Peri standing outside the history classroom, trying to get Ms Micheals' attention by messing with
the wards. She follows him outside to catch the tailend of the fight. A brief discussion establishes that
everyone has bizarre reflections except Kevin, and that no one besides Kevin and Peri saw any pictures
moving. The bloody hands are swiftly attributed to someone having died by those selfsame hands. Ms Michaels
confirms this after class, and explains that with the approach of Mars, this was only to be expected. She
wants to talk to them after school, as she may have a small...task...for them. 'it has not been proven
that red hands equals murder. you have no proof. -Skin'
Later that morning, they discover that the police have been to the scene and uncovered six bodies, killed
over the last year. They have discovered the footprints of five children at the scene, and the children are
asked to come forward. An argument ensues. Everyone believes that the best thing to do is call the police and
tell them everything, but Skin doesn't want to hand over the backpack and its contents. Eventually they agree
to hand the magazine, photos and map over to the police, but to keep the bag aside to do some investigating
of their own. They discover that Ms Weaver may know how to find out who the bag belonged to. Jean-Marie calls
his lawyer, and he agrees that the best thing to do is come forward. The Detective meets them in the library,
and they spill their guts to him about finding the map and the bodies, and placing the call. He seems to
accept their story, and their evidence. As he leaves, he mentions that the Winecellar Killer was killed that
night - shot by a security guard as he tried to break into another cellar.
Ms Micheals' task for them is related to this killer. Twenty years ago he was in the process of creating a
powerful magick when he was interrupted. Sources have revealed that a principle element of the spell was
auctioned off, and was now in the home that Garrison had tried to rob. The five were charged to find this
object, whatever it may be. Candice goes off alone to do some sniffing around at the scene...literally. Once
out of sight, she shapeshifts into a cat and goes sneaking around at the mansion. The place is not under
heavy guard, but there are people around. She leaves with some good intel.
The five meet in Jean-Marie's house to do some research. Jean-Marie tries out a shielding spell, and finally
succeeds after a few tries. Skin insists on using his summoned essence to try and light his cigarette. Kevin
tries to draw his contact, but the image that his pencil traces is violent and unfamiliar, and he wisely
gives up before completing it. They find a spell that will indicate whether an object has any magickal value.
Some research through the Chauvet records reveals that only one case survived the events of 1983. Of those 12
bottles, one has been consumed, one is in the Chauvet cellars, and 11 were purchased by Mr Mills. Armed with
the spell and the number of the remaining bottle, they find it and attempt to 'weigh' it. Although the
essence comes easily with five witches drawing it down, the spell has no effect...the bottle is old, but not
magickal.
Skin tries to siphon off the collected essence to light his cigarette. and when i'm good enough i'll
never need matches ever again. -Skin
