Warhammer 40000
"In the grim darkness of the far future there is only war!"
This line, excerpted from the Warhammer 40000 Rulebook, pretty accurately sums up
Warhammer 40000 as a whole. The rules system for Warhammer 40000 is fairly similar to
that of Warhammer Fantasy, but as of the current(3rd) edition, it is less complex
than either the previous edition of Warhammer 40000 or the current edition of Warhammer
Fantasy. The game rules allow you to play out cinematic battles set on the scorched
battlefields of a distant future with a strong gothic theme to it. Battles generally
take 2-3 hours to play but thanks to the rules system often seem to go muchn quicker.
There are, of course, exceptions, like when a game with more than 2 people is being
played, or when one or both of the players just doesn't know how to move quickly,
but generally a game between to experienced, well-matched players runs quickly, from
a subjective point of view. One of the most attractive features of Warhammer 40000 is
the setting itself. The dark, gothic feel presented in the Age of the Imperium section
of the rulebook, as well as the numerous extra books available, works really well as a
backdrop for this kind of game. Games Workshop's Official Warhammer 40000 page is at:
