Playing Cards

Playing Cards in Trees is generally a simple matter. There are only a few basic rules to adhere to:

  • You may only play a card in a position adjacent to a friendly card. Adjacency encompasses edge adjacency as well asd corner adjacency.
  • The above rule does not apply with respect to the first row on each player's side of the play zone. This row is considered to be a special zone, as it is used at the beginning of the game to place the player's first card. Cards placed in this first row need not be adjacent to any other cards.
  • If you play a card in the same position as another friendly card, then the older card is removed from play and placed in your Discard pile.
  • No one card may ever be adjacent to more than 3 other friendly cards.
  • If playing a card woulod violate the above rule then in order to for the play to be completed a friendly card in play which is in a position adjacent to the chosen location for the card being played must be removed from play and placed in the Discard pile. If, for some reason, this does not fix the problem cards must be removed from play until the problem is fixed. Alternatively, the card to played can be placed in the Discard pile instead and the play can be considered a failure. Note that if this choice is chosen the player is still considered to have attempted to play a card and thus can not play another card instead until his or her next Play step.

Other than these basic rules, there are only three other main rules with regards to playing cards:

  • If a card is adjacent to no other friendly cards then it is immediately removed from the game and placed in it's controller's Discard pile.
  • The previous rule does not apply to any cards placed in his or her first row in the play zone. In other words, the base row on each player's end of the play zone is considered an expcetion to the above rule, as it is with the rule regarding placement.

And finally, the last main rule. This rule handles what occurs when a friendly card is placed over an opposing card:

Later peeps, I'm tired now :-)
