Thou shalt not love another

You may come to love your character, though.

This is an invitation to play a Nobilis game. Your character will be a sovereign power, solely representing some earthly concept on behalf of the Principal or Imperator of that concept. Such powers are the sovereign Power of Iron, the Power of the estate of Horses, the Power of Bacteriological Warfare, the Power of Bad Jokes and the Power, with a rather difficult life, of the estate of Love.

Thou shalt harm none who has done no harm

But your first task will be of horrendous harm, as your shared Principal establishes itself on Earth. We will speak in detail of how your character comes first to know your Principal and how you half-discover, half-create your home, the chancel; how each of you divide the responsibility for your estate from the care of your chancel; how you organise your personal and spiritual defenses.

The world at large is a very harmful place. Who will attack your estate? You will know, as the Power of Horses, when the last Przewalski's horse dies. You will know, as the Power of Bacteriological Warfare, the instant when UN weapons inspectors get access to Saddam Hussein's last secret cache. You will know, as the Power of Bad Jokes, when someone actually laughs at one of the four worst Irish jokes. If the question remains of who did it, well, it's your estate to protect.

Who will attack your chancel? All sovereign powers know that others hide eternal secrets in their hearts' domain. Each chancel is the last refuge of its powers, and those who will see you harmed will harm your home. And of course your Principal inhabits your chancel, and each has many enemies.

Who will attack your spirit? Your estate manifests in the world only through the kind of miracles you deploy to make it happen. Let no one else capture or control your spirit, this will limit or destroy how you can affect the world and your estate.

Who will attack your person? Let them come with their swords and their bayonets, with their machine guns and their thermonuclear weapons, with their flower rites and their mystery cults and their insults: you are a sovereign power, and you will defend yourself with that power.

Treat no beast as your lord

You will be no mere human any longer, no human frame is strong enough alone to withstand the part of your Imperator that now glories your soul. Mere humans live their lives enclosed by their brute senses and cannot see they mythic world, the world of ikons and symbols, where flowers harness the magics of countless spirits, and Platonic Imperators guard all creation.

Protect no power from the justice of the code

Bring those who violate Lord Entropy's code before his court. The Darkest Lord admits no indiscipline in difficult times, and times are always difficult. If the sovereign powers violate the laws of Entropy, nothing will remain to dam the silent forces of utter destruction.

Lord Entropy is indeed just, and his laws are there for the benefit of all. All beasts, all humans, all spirits, all powers, all imperators and all those who would destroy creation are guarded by these laws: and all must pay the price for violating them.

So far as the game goes, here is the code. We play by email via the forum http://groups.msn.com/sacredandprofane. Two GMs? share duties, myself and Jeremy Norton (no email address supplied here because I don't know if he wants it published - get hold of me if you want to reach him). Presently we're doing a mutual game - he GMs? me, and I GM him. You can see a few details about our SacredAndProfanePCs, if you like.

We need several more players, probably five is the maximum.

The Nobilis universe is a very complicated place and needs some explanation. Either of us can give you some instructions on setting, characters and background. Believe me there's a lot to learn, but we can take it in stages.

If you're interested, give me a call at 021 9593964 in working hours, or at 083 2552977 at any time, or email me at mal@egenetics.com. Oh yes, it'll help if you have an email address (but of course you do - you're reading this on the Internet, so I'll assume you do...).

Here's a NobilisIntroduction. Here's a discussion of TheAwayWeekendThemes, to which you are welcome to contribute.
