SynKronosSeptNovTwoKayThreeYou are on the archive wiki. The new wiki is here. 30 November 2003Last day of freedom :/ Man... this sucks. Anyway, went to Camps Bay to watch the sunset this evening (Saturday - it's just past 12 now :P) with Schoo (+1) and Amy, and had rolls and chips and coke :) Hmmm, healthy. Then we went back to Amy's place and watched the whole of Black Adder season 3 - damn funny. Am now at home, online for the whole weekend for once :) Means I finally get my IRC fix, and full updatey on all things web (comics, Wiki, gaming articles). They still haven't posted the standalone for the War3 1.13 patch :( Means no act 2 and 3 of the Orc bonus campaign for me yet. Oh well... just have to wait. 25 November 2003Yay! Job found, starting on the 1st Dec :) Good goodness. Pool last night with Alex, Nick, Schpat, Al and Colleen, was very cool :) I was sucking pretty badly tho :/ Oh well, I still managed to get Alex to lose to me (dual sink on the black :P Unlucky man) and I beat Nick once I think. Anyway, hopefully I will do better next time :P We must do it again tho, was fun. 21 November 2003Yay, gfx card borrowed from Richard, thanks a lot man :) Still not playing a lot of games, but at least I can get some Bookworm time in :P Also signed my contract today, start work on the 1st Dec, in Tableview unfortunately :/ Hmmm... bet the taxi fare will start getting expensive. Anyway, bed time... 2 November 2003Yay, modem all set up. And Colleen has bought an AMD Athlon XP 2500+ (well, mobo, chip and memory), so it's all spanky and sweet :) Except for the GFX card, which is having issues, and won't go beyond 800x600 and 16 colours. Crappy. The rest of the machine is super spanky tho :) Okay, once the rest of you bitches are finished with exams, we must do some stuff again, not just random Gandalfs outings :P 23 October 2003Well, this is it. My 128k net access stops here. My updates will prolly become even more erratic than they have been, as will my IRC connectivity. I'll try my best to get stuff up and get on from time to time, and hopefully I will get a new job soon :) With net access, please. Anywayz, I'll see y'all around soon :) 21 October 2003Woohoo :) Only 3 more days at work. Of course, everyone wants something done in that time, so I am super-swamped with stuff, mostly process documents and layout schemas, so that people working here after me aren't completely screwed. Also finally got the kiosk working :) Great stuff. Still a bit niggly on the update side, but not too bad. Hmmm... Still got over 9Gigs of stuff I need to write to CD b4 Thursday :/ Better get cracking. Yay! Blizzard have closed the beta for the Diablo 1.10 patch, which hopefully means it will be released soon :) Awesome 15 October 2003Dropped off CDs? at MoonFlake 's house last night, then went to FirstFallen for supper, good pumpkin soup :) On the walk home, I walked right past the dude who took my cellphone!!!!!! I'm almost 100% sure it was the same guy, in the same road, at the same place, fiddling with something in his pants/behind his back, but I was staring at him and acting edgy, so he just walked past. NO more walking around there anytime other than during the day, from now on. Unless I have my hockey stick :P But how sad is that, having to carry a stick with you all the time? Anyway, people, if you are wandering around the Rosebank area, please be careful. 14 October 2003A nice relaxing weekend :) Had a LAN at Waynne's work on Friday night, loads of fun. I've decided that my machine can't handle UT2003? or Battlefield 1942, and playing them with the jerk as it is is just irritating, so no more. Slept all of Saturday, then went to a birthday dinner at Pirates in Plumstead. Very nice steakhouse, very nice waitresses too :P Sunday went to the Keg and Grouse in Rondebosch for lunch with Dave, Dave, Dave, Philippa and Duncan (Campey, Sharpe, Turner, btw :P). Very cool. Got a new cellphone, only had MTN contracts at the place in Obs, so now I have to learn all those shortcut numbers :/ Oh well, it's a phone and it works, so whatever. Thanks to Philip for the loan of a handset :) Awesome news ^_^ Colleen is coming back. She's had enough, and will be arriving in CT at 11am tomorrow (Wednesday). Yay! 10 October 2003Okay, walking back from lunch at the pub, and this fire vehicle comes racing down the one-way section of station road (the wrong way) with it's sirens blaring. So I follow it down the road to Drake street, which is one block away from our offices, and see a bunch of paramedics working on some dude lying in the gutter with a blanket over him. The para's don't seem too concerned, so I watch for a bit, figuring it might just be some dude passed out or something (there are no cars nearby, and he's in the gutter, not the middle of the road, so I discounted a run-over). And then he starts convulsing. A fucking disturbing sight, let me fucking tell you. One of the other ladies watching asks some dude with a trolley full of cardboard what happened, and he says that his wife/girlfriend stabbed the dude with an 'empty', and is now in jail. And I'm all like WTF!!!! And then the police wanted to take him in for questioning (duh), and he was all fucking worried about his trolley load of cardboard!! Talk about fucking priorities! Yeah, convulsing dudes in the gutter, not what I needed to see right now. 8 October 2003Movie and dinner last night with FirstFallen and MoonFlake, very cool, thanks a lot Jo :) Bladerunner was cool again, very good movie, reminded me a lot of 5th Element, which obviously draws very heavily from it for stylistic inspiration. Walked Michelle home afterwards (not that she watched the movie or anything :P Sleepy head ^^) and that's where my day started going badly. I was walking back from Michelle's place, smsing as I went, and about a block from my house a short black dude came up to me and was all 'Sorry. Sorry' and I was like 'No, dude', and then he whips a kitchen knife from behind his back and says 'Don't fuck with me'. So I don't. So he grabs the phone and tells me to run, so I jog up the road a bit and stand there watching him, which he doesn't really like, so he does like a pretend charge at me, so I jog a bit further. He then walks away and around the corner. So I run home, fetch my hockey stick and for the next 45 mins jog around trying to find him, but alas, no luck. He only got the cellphone tho, so it's not _too bad, and nothing happened to me, so that alright also. Plus I have an excuse for being late for work today :) Blerg :/ The worst part is that I can't afford a new phone, and don't really want to get a contract,\. But we shall see. Actually, I lie, another mass bad thing is the loss of phone book :( Most of those numbers are not written down anywhere. Ah well, life goes on :) If people feel like resending me their numbers, you can mail them to synkronos@ananzi.co.za. Would be much appreciated :) On a lighter note, Halo is an amazing game, Microsoft's second decent one after Freelancer. I'll do a review for it sometime, or something. 6 October 2003Hmmm... Friday went out to Springboks with HoleyCrusader, Jean, Jim, Julie, and Hendrik (organised at frisbee, hence the frisbee crowd). Saw Nick and Rick there (I was shocked, but they blamed Tess... I mean, said that they were enjoying themselves and came here often). Lindsey rocked up later, as did Decoy. There was more underage booty there than I have seen since I was last at Gandalfs, and it was mostly on the tables, shaking. Ross and Noodles showed up as well, but this is the sort of place I'd expect him to be :P After people left, went with Lindsey thru to Billy's (blerg :/) cos she was meeting up with some people for the Engineering grad afterparty. It was, <sarcasm>unfortunately</sarcasm>, closed, and ppl were standing around outside. So, after waiting for ages for Lindsey's friend Vidda (sp?) to show up, we went to Sam and Matt's place for coffee, then home. Fun :) Sleep at 4am. Saturday I had a LAN. Had to be at work at 7:40 to be fetched, which meant waking up at 7:00... not an easy task :P I overslept a little, not enough to make me feel rested, and then my lift was late anyway, by like ages. LAN was awesome, played some Halo (which is okay, but might be very cool with about 16 players), a lot of Q3 and some MOHAA:S. A game of Warcraft3 was also played, but that was unfortunately during the 2 hours I was away, at my Gran's for dinner :/ Dammit! Dinner was great tho, I was fucking stuffed, as gran's tend to do :P And she was still trying to force stuff on us, like coffee, biscuits, jelly, etc. We're lucky we got out alive! Ah, and the LAN organisers came up with a brilliant idea :) They organised food for us. At lunchtime, they got salad, rolls, cold meat, cheese and condiments, and said 'help yourselves, R5.50 a roll', and made boerewors rolls (R7 each :P) for supper. Great stuff, much better and cheaper than the usual St Elmo's pizza. Bleh, thick bases :( Oh, anyone who wants to come along to these lans is more than welcome. It's open. R25, Sat morning from about 8:30am til sun morning about 10am. We play mostly FPSes?, but I'm pretty much good for anything. 3 October 2003Smirnoff Comedy Festival last night with FirstFallen, Stu and Amy. Good, but not nearly as good as last year. The South African comics sucked the big one, thankfully there were only 2. Of the international acts, the MC was the best, very sharp and quick on his feet, although he did run out of stuff to say at a few points. The ventriloquist was freeeeeky, and not particularly funny, but very well done, I thought. The British Indian dude was alright, although he mumbled and trailed off too much, and you were never quite sure if he had finished a joke or not. The old American dude was pretty freaky as well, and wasn't really funny until halfway thru his act, but then he picked it up quite a lot. The rest were pretty good :) An enjoyable evening at least :P 2 October 2003Heh, had a really cool time last night :) Went out for dinner with FirstFallen, Philip, Andrew and Kara at the Cavendish food court (underneath the movies). They all had sushi from Fuji Yumi, which didn't look as good as from 'real' sushi places (and by that I mean decent, non-fast food restaurants). I don't particularly like sushi, so I had Nando's instead. The pita is really good, even though the Mild is sooo not hot at all. Next time I'll try medium I guess. After that we went thru to Mugg & Bean, the shit hole that it is, and got some pretty appalling service. The manager came up to us and asked if we had been helped, and we said no. So he started taking our order, and half way thru, said 'Actually, would you mind just writing down what you want, and I'll come pick it up just now? Thanks' and walks off. But then M&B is infamous for its lack of service, it's quite amazing. Well, after that ordeal, we went to Kara's place to play card games. Philip showed us this one fairly memory intensive game called pastra (or something, don't ask me how to spell it), which was all good and well until Cara started rolling and passing around. Memory games are not so good stoned. Ah well, it was fun anyway :P 30 September 2003Okay, work been really hectic recently, just highlighting more and more how bad a project manager my boss is. So I quit this morning. I don't want a job that I don't care about at all, and that's where this has ended up. Better find a job soonish then :P Anybody with an opening for a gardener, just leave a message here :P 8 September 2003Another low sleep weekend :) But since I got enough sleep last night, I am feeling great. The wonders of a semi-early Sunday night. Yar, Gandalfs on Fri, v kewl. Can't remember much specific (heck, I can't really remember much past a day ago anyway. All I know is it was fun). Laaaaate, like, no sleep, then to Panarottis for breakfast, then to work for a 10am meeting. I thought I was amazingly coherent :) Cass' bday thingy was really cool as well, really good food, and I had a good sleep on the mattress right in the middle of the floor. Thank god I woke up before they actually fetched the highlighter. Humorous and interesting yellow patterns on someone's face seem not as humorous and interesting when you have to look in a mirror to see them. Played sooo much Tekken3 after my nap, my thumbs are still sore today. Didn't do too badly I thought, managed to beat most people at least once :) I love Hwoarang. ToothpasteDealer couldn't handle the switch to console since he could no longer pull off Paul's deathfist (Thank god!), but we will see how it goes as we all get better. This Sat is the (currently proposed) date for the smackdown. That evening was again Gandalfs, which was completely sucky until about 12:30. There was a private party upstairs, so there was no alternative nothing until Antonio eventually succumbed to our begging for decent music downstairs. Then it was rocking :) Went home at a semi-decent time, like 3am or something. Sunday was a late-sleep day. Then I went thru to Jo's and played some Harry Potter (which was actually quite cool, but then I am a sucker for platformers :) Then went thru to Jim's to play Magic. Fun messing around with some new/reworked decks, although Jim still hates my Zombies :P 1 September 2003Ah yes :) The wonders that are Late Ed. What a shit club, but what sweet sweet eye candy. Free cocktails too for a while :) Tx to Erica for that, and happy birthday :) Hope you enjoyed it. Mars was pretty cool. Not all that exciting, but it was damn bright. I'm sure MoonFlake will chastise me for not being keen enough about astronomical phenomena, but tough :P - i've been telling ppl for weeks that it wasn't going to be all that exciting :P - MoonFlake- But it very raddish on Wednesday - InfernalRabbi Getting into Magic again. It's pretty cool, and lots of fun playing with HoleyCrusader and Jim. Man, tribal decks are hardcore! Got a zombie deck together that's pretty leet despite just being thrown together from what I have. Also trying to build a sliver deck, since there are some hardcore slivers. Tx to Ryan for donating a bunch of cards to me :) Back to SynKronos |
