!Character creation After waffling on about Aspect, Needs, Wants and Demesne, I asked the players to come up with some ideas. Sean proposed a Master who was something of a musician, and in the end this is what we came up with (fleshed out a bit and put into semi-coherent sentences)...

!Master Monday

(Lord Protector Monday Niemenen)

The black sheep of the wealthy Niemenen family, Monday inherited his eccentric Uncle Woden's gothic mansion, and the title he held over the nearby town. In a dusty hall, behind moth-eaten curtains, he found... the Organ. A monstrosity of pipes and valves, with coloured keys and broken panels. If only he can fix it, refine the design, and maybe learn to play it, his family will give him the recognition he so deserves.

(The Organ is a strange device capable of all sorts of preternatural effects. From simple mesmerism to clouds of bats flying over the village.)

• Aspect: Beast (sometimes slow to reveal / pretends to be a Brain)
• Needs: An audience (testing the Organ)
• Wants: Recognition from family
• Outsiders: The extended Niemenen family
• Type: Collector (parts for the Organ)

Marigold - Sean

Gardener

The gardener of the Lord Protector, Marigold attends to both the grounds and the public areas of the town, including the park. He has a ghastly, disfigured left hand shaped like a trowel.

• Less than human: Cannot use trowel hand, except when gardening
• More than human: Nurturing power, except when people notice his hand
• Connection: A lady who feeds pigeons in the public park; she is not aware that he watches her
• Connection: The apple farmer's young boy, who struck up a conversation with him (the apple farmer works on the Master's orchards)

Oi'u (Oi, you!) - Bronwen

Midget

A diminutive girl with pointy ears, who couldn't take a bath, because she might drown in it. She has been employed by the Master to fix his Organ, as she is the perfect size. Unfortunately, she has no idea what she is supposed to do.

• Less than human: Incredibly clumsy, except when no-one is looking
• More than human: Can hear any conversation across town, except when it regards the Master
• Connection: The priest, who she loves (The priest doesn't even know she exists, as he can't see her behind the pew)
• Connection: Absent-minded uncle (her legal guardian, who forgot her one day)

Methuselah Mountain ("Old Man" Mountain) - Yancke

Manservant

As well as being the manservant to Uncle Woden, Methuselah was probably the manservant to several Lord Protectors before him. No-one can be sure, as Methuselah is the oldest inhabitant of the town. He is tall, ancient and creaking, with a tremendous beard. So far he owns at least false teeth and a hearing horn.

• Less than human: Really slow, except when doing things the "right way"
• More than human: Unobtrusive (and unnoticeable), except when children are around (they like him & ask him for sweets)
• Connection: Great-great-... grandson Timmy, his youngest progeny (he watches Timmy from afar, visiting rarely, Timmy knows him as a scary man with a beard... and sweets)
• Connection: Town spinster, Agnes Longfellow (actively attempting court)
