EarthWardSessionOneYou are on the archive wiki. The new wiki is here. After lectures all three return to their res rooms to find personally addressed notes slipped under their doors. The note is an invitation to the upcoming Beltaine ceremony and is signed by Elder Laryssa. Lee reads through it once, takes out her Zippo and burns the offending piece of paper, muttering about hippy fools for the next few minutes. At supper it becomes clear that all three have received similar invitations. Eben and JP are intrigued, but all Lee is worried about is how someone found out their names and where they live. While enjoying sundowners and some touch rugby on the beach a few days later the three are approached by an elderly lady dressed in flowing robes. She introduces herself as Elder Laryssa and when asked about the invitations explains that they are all ‘gifted’ and ‘powerful’ and that they have been tracked down because her Covenant has been searching for gifted people in this country. She adds that she knows Lee’s grandmother. Irritated that someone could possibly think that she is one of these hokey fools Lee lights up a cigarette, only to find it blown out and JP’s lit. She tells them that she can help them to discover their natural talents and Eben agrees to try it out. Sitting with her and following her instructions he finds that he can sense the thoughts and intentions of all of the people on the beach with them. He suddenly senses a man nearby with murderous intent in his heart and shocked, he tells Laryssa. She calmly walks over to the man and starts to talk to him. He becomes agitated and starts yelling, then starts running down the beach. The three give chase, accompanied by three lifeguards, Eben tries to tackle the man, but falls. One of the lifeguards catches up with him and as he’s brought down a knife falls from his pocket to the sand. After the commotion has died down Lee recognises the man from posters on campus. He’s wanted for a series of murders. The three look down the beach and see Laryssa approaching with another lifeguard and the police. To the three she seems to be glowing brightly. Eben makes a statement at the police station and is given a reward for helping to capture the man. Eben and JP start to ask Laryssa more questions, but she suggests that they go some place less crowded so that she can help them to ‘reveal their gifts’. They drive to a nearby sports field and she asks Lee to come and sit with her. Seeing no other option Lee humours her. Laryssa tells her to focus on her grandmother’s amulet and Eben and JP notice that Lee begins to glow. Lee dismisses their observation insisting that Laryssa is messing with her and that she had nothing to do with it. Laryssa tells her to take off the amulet and she reluctantly hands it to JP. JP and Eben see a bolt of light from Laryssa hit Lee, just as she feels agony burning through her. Furious, Lee launches herself at Laryssa, only to bounce ineffectually off some barrier. Laryssa tells her put the amulet back on. Again Eben and JP see a bolt of light from Laryssa head towards Lee, but it seems to disperse around her. Eager to learn what he can do, JP sits down with Laryssa and a few moments later the depression where Eben is standing fills with water. Lee lights up and finds her head shrouded in fog. Laryssa tells them that Table Mountain is one of the most powerful places on earth. Lee sits to one side as Eben practices his new talent. JP creates a lump of ice and starts to throw pieces of it at Lee. Out of irritation and on Laryssa suggestion she tries to create a shield to protect herself, but JP dumps ice down the back of her shirt, Laryssa urges her to try again and the ice bounces off an invisible barrier one foot away from Lee. Eben focuses his thoughts and suddenly pieces of earth erupt all around them. Freaked out and irritated Lee storms upstairs to La Med. JP runs after her and is brought to a halt as he finds that he can sense people’s thoughts. Eben thanks Elder Laryssa and joins the other two for a drink. Overhearing JP and Eben’s conversation about magic, they are approached by a cute young girl who introduces herself as Linda. To Lee’s horror the boys invite her to join them and Eben chats to her as she gushes about how fascinating she finds magic. She joins them for the trip back to res. The next day at lunch the three hear Laryssa’s voice behind them and she sits down beside them. She informs them that her Covenant intend to use the upcoming Beltaine festival to create a shield around the earth to protect/guard against the Ante-Deluvians and that they would appreciate our help. She goes on to say that the Rosecrucians have a number of trouble-shooters/agents in the country and they don’t know why they’re here. She asks that they try to find out what they can and let her know what they dig up. They promise to see what they can find out. |
