PhpWiki has annoyed me for the last time.  It crashes, it dies, it has more bugs than Internet Explorer and it has to go.  I'll be taking Gluon in for surgery over the SchpatCON weekend (in fact, at SchpatCON).  I'll reinstall Linux (probably Fedora Core 2 since that seems least likely to need constant updates and will be easiest to update without an outgoing network connection) and replace PhpWiki with some other wiki system.  The wiki will probably need some user TLC to sort out the content after the upgrade.

*Current replacement wiki candidates:* TikiWiki, TWiki

*Current leading candidate:* TikiWiki

* I can't say I'm unhappy ;) - see comments on Suggestions and wiki-related links on DefyPrecipitation (you'll have to scroll, I can't remember how to do internal links right now) - if you don't think TikiWiki is too massive (that's the biggest complaint I keep reading about it), it sounds like a plan - d@vid sep 7 2004

...

In a rather frightening development, fhtagn has had an emergency hard drive replacement after the third hard drive (containing most of the executables) crashed in a spectacular fashion.  The new hard drive is somewhat smaller but more reliable and will do for now.

...

In a further attempt to spead up fhtagn, I've tweaked the hard drive parameters using hdparm.  Not really sure what I'm doing but I've read the hdparm man page and set the drives to -u 1 (allow unmasking of interrupts), -m 16 (multisector read of 16 sectors) and -a 4 (4 sector software read ahead).  The third drive is actually set to -m 8 since it says it can't support -m 16.

...

Recently, some people (GarethMojo) have noted that the ClawWiki has been a bit slow since its move to Fhtagn.  In an attempt to rectify this I've tweak the Apache configuration file (mainly reducing the number of spare servers and not loading some unused modules).  These changes seem to have improved things.

...

If you encounter any problems while using the ClawWiki, drop a note here describing the problem.

!!!Problems, Gripes, Ideas

->Nothing much in the way of gripes - ftaghn has actually been a lot better since you've tweaked it. Whatever you did has worked marvellously! Congrats! - GarethMojo

->I agree with GarethMojo. It's become faster since the tweaking. SO DON'T FUCKING CHANGE IT! Please? The Wiki is the greatest invention since the Internet. And sliced bread. -- HateBoy -- P.S. The Administrators are the best!
