Bloodbowl League - Any more people keen before we start?

Good evening sports fans! Yet another season of beer, blood and advertising is upon us as the pre-season rookie league is here. Things are rolling along and at least 8 people are keen to play.

The Rookie leauge will consist of 3 games (each player) using the latest (v.3) LRB rulings, with the option of using the special play cards. No Big Guys or Star Players are allowed in the Rookie league.

The aim of the League is not to have a winner at the end but for everybody to become familiar with the rules, before the more serious league commences.

If you want to play in the league but don't have a team yet, you need think about buying, borrowing or stealing a team soon. Note that buying from the source (Games Workshop) will take about 3 weeks to deliver so you better get cracking.

I have several teams that may be used during this league but if you find yourself interested in playing in the future league buying a team of your own would be best all round. - Yancke

Yancke's teams (I'll be playing one of them. obviously.)

  1. Orc team (painted)
  2. Human Team (painted)
  3. Chaos Team (Badly painted)
  4. Norse Team (painted)
  5. Orc Team 2 (unpainted)
  6. Skaven Team (partial, unpainted)

The people that I know of that are interested are:

  • Tim (TheosThree) - Wood Elves
  • Yancke - I am selling some of the teams above for a pittanace. trying to get less financially sorted peeps into the game.
  • Adam - Khemri ( has bought and has team already. )
  • Ryan - probably will use my Necromantic team (Tim)
  • Marc - Skaven
  • Dave Sharpe - Chaos (after he comes back from touney in England. -Yancke)
  • Thomas Van Heerden - Dark Elves ( Dude I know from yonks back. -Yancke )
  • Andrew Timm - Dave Seaward told me he was keen. He has an unpainted dwarf team that I am bringing down for him - YetiBe
  • Tai Steyn - Not sure with him leaving in May and all.
  • Someone whose name I've forgotten

If anybody wants to play and is on the list contact Tim or me (Yancke 0845566297). If you aren't on the list put yourself on it and contact us. If you are on the list and can't play for some reason remove yourself.

Yancke will be acting Marshall in this league, with Tim or Adam keeping an eye on his games.

A final note

When considering teams to buy realise that differant teams play a differant game of Blood-Bowl.

  • Orcs, Chaos, Dwarves, Chaos Dwarves, Undead, Khemri, Nurgle : Beatdown game. They don't pass for shit.
  • Elves, Wood Elves, High Elves, Dark Elves, Skaven : Passing and running game. Mobility rather than muscle.
  • Humans, Amazon, Norse, Necromantic, Lizardmen : Differing mixes of beatdown, running and passing. The "finesse" game.
  • Halfling, Goblin : Just plain crap - humour value only. The Big Guy restriction for the rookie league doesn't apply to them.

That "finesse" category you've got there is more blurred than you've got it. Dark Elves could slip in, as could Chaos Dwarves while Lizardmen are firmly in the beatdown side of game. Bizarrely, about halfway through the power curve, Amazons turn into the biggest beatdown team. AndieMoore
Yup a team full of first skill choice blodgers will to that to you.

''I'm not entirely convinced that Lizardmen can be squarly pegged as a beats team, remember this last bit is only a loose guide for rookie players that have no idea about the game. The "finesse" catagory is just a place to dump the teams that don't have hardwired skill/stat set that is clearly biased. Oh and by the way you have to play a lot of games before ammazons go crazy I doubt any leauges down here will last long enough to make super teams. -Yancke

I play-tested the Lizzies in a game using Java BloodBowl and am intending to get my hands on a Lizardmen team as a result. They don't play anything like Khemri or Chaos. While they can beat very well, they are a very very flexible team, being able to run rings around most other beats teams and even giving running teams a good showing in terms of speed. The Saurii are very nice, better than Chaos Warriors for the most part, while the Skins leave most other teams' fluff in the dust. They are, however, expensive and the team is apparently quite vulnerable to Skink damage - OOPMan
I believe the phrase is "blitz a skink a turn", then all you need to do is keep a tackle zone on each of the big dudes and the ball is yours. I don't recommend the tackle zone thingie for wood elves though. - YetiBe''
