Hah, this morning Grant accused me of being a sell-out since I mentioned wearing New Rocks, on the assumption that I'd bought these to replace my docs. They are infact more than 6 months old and I recall blogging about how upon purchase, the buggers counted as the most expensive shoes I've ever bought - and they still do! Ah, at least these days I see the humorous side of your ability to leap to ludicrous conclusions, Grant. You see yesterday, and perhaps the day before was a day of small triumphs. On Wednesday I gave into tempatation and bought myself a really cheap little, solid-state MP3? player. I like on-line shopping. It should arrive in the next few days. I'm still waiting for my new USB pen-drive which should have arrived yesterday, but post for this office is terrible and there's a small part of me that's concerned it will never arrive. :-( I also put my room up for offer on the Gumtree and another site and the response has been pretty good, so I've got a number of people lined up to view it on Tuesday. I've come to the realisation that I've pretty much filled every ounce of spare time I have between now and me leaving - so guys, if you're in London, my farewell drinks are at an undecided location on the evening of Thursday the 1st. Also at lunch time I went shoe shopping (Yes, mum, more shopping) for a new pair of docs or some other shoes. After much trawling of Camden, I even tried on the Docs at the market stall, but I've been told they're fakes, although for the life of me I cannot spot the difference (same colours, same stitching, sizing is identical, even the leather seems the same) I moved finally onto the 'official' docs store. The lads there had much (all of it impolite and vehement) to say about the fake doc stall, although they were addresing it all at some American girl, fortunately and not me. The brown docs they're making at the moment are much lighter affairs than my old ones, they come with yellow and brown laces and the eye-lets are a shade of tan! It's very wrong. Also, strangely I still take a size 5 in Docs. The size 6 swims on me, but then I guess they're supposedly unisex and their size 6 is probably a men's size 6. Fortunately there was a modicrum of salvation, there was one last pair of darker brown 8-holes in my size. However, they too have brown eyelets (still wrong!) and brown laces, so I was undecided. The girl there took my indecision to be more a price issue and I did explain that I had a limited budget for shoes and while I wanted boots and I'm a fan of docs, my mind wasn't made up. The shoes were £80 (double the price of the identical knock-offs) and so when she asked me how much I'd been looking to pay, I offered £50. Well, heh, since they were the last in that size of an obsolete range they gave them to me for that! I am most chuffed - even if I'm probably still going to have to give them a few coats of black poilsh to get them a more respectable shade of dark brown. Oh, and my personal fashion prediction of the month is exactly what I've discussed above. Mark my words, Docs come back in fashion - we've seen the All Stars cross trainers (gotta get me a pair of those too) back in fashion. Docs will follow! Comment: fakes (by ToothpasteDealer? on 2005-08-19 18:21:49)I read that often the fakes are from an illicit (SP?) production line in the same factory, and are often totally identical. so it's possible to get stuff like calvin klien briefs for about £1 instead of their normal price, which is like £15 more.
