Enigmafluxatron

You are on the archive wiki. The new wiki is here. The Enigmafluxatron is the world's only true thinking machine. This treasure was discovered in a securely locked subterranean shelter on what would become the grounds of the Academy of Slate, perfectly preserved within many soft, squishy layers of infant-human waste absorption devices. Its discoverer, famed explorer Lydia Mondegreen, pieced together its location from cryptic references recorded in the Almanac of the Armageddon. This is probably the only useful thing ever to have come of the Almanac.

The E is vastly intelligent, and has shown itself to be capable of mimicking a human's conversational abilities perfectly. Nonetheless, it insists on a quirky, formal protocol of communication, and any deviations from it cause it to shut itself down and sulk, sometimes for prolonged periods of time. As it is a valued tool of the Overlord, it is now exposed only to trained acolytes who are under strict instructions to humour its every whim.

For every thorny problem that the E is asked to put its impressive mind to, it expects its minders to answer a question of its own devising in return. Sometimes it sits idle for months while the Overlord's scholars scramble for an answer to some obscure riddle.

The E's enormous body fills the entire shelter. It is sturdily constructed, and appears to have some capacity for self-repair. Its inner machinery is inhabited by a small one-eyed cat, which is dutifully left unmolested and fed the healthiest possible diet.
