Corruscation

You are on the archive wiki. The new wiki is here. The process by which the natural habitat of any living creature can be diminished, almost ad infinitum, by the careful genetic alteration of said creature. Useful in the creation of limited habitats, for example the Blatherskite collection.

Existing examples include:

1. Rotherhide Lions: these beautiful beasts have lost none of their natural grace. However, their preferred territory has been reduced from 1000 acres of savanna to the size of a three-bedroom house. They enjoy a good novel and are good at opening tins. Given that their new habitat is built atop a sunken Giga-Warehouse, their survival is assured for many centuries to come.

2. Hyper-sloths: sloths have a small habitat as a rule, but this new variety can be tucked into any corner. They do not move, grow roots through their claws, and photosynthesise. Unfortunately, they no longer reproduce, but they live practically forever and make great pets.

There have been claims that Corruscation is cruel and unusual, as it effectively changes the nature, and sometimes the physionomy, of the species to a point where it no longer retains any link to the original animal.

This stance has been met with fierce opposition from the proponents of Corruscation. Some (notably the Rigmarole tribe of Eastern Sibenia, who have been known for their gung-ho handling of the Genetic Blade) have solved these disputes by corruscating their opponents until they no longer held an opinion, walked on all fours and had a tendency to chew their cud.

Their argument was considered rather persuasive.
