Very little is know about the currencies used before the Great Disaster. Rumours and legends have been passed down through the generations that precious metals, and sought after commodities made the back bone of ancient currencies. Since the Great Disaster, however, mankind has had little need for currency. Time does move on, and mankind is slowly healing itself. Along with that healing process, a money backed economy is slowly making a reappearance. (Seeing as we know so  little about conditions before the Great Disaster, we can only assume humans used a monetary systems in those times)

The mixture is cut into discs, and then baked in the sun. Bazan was an immediate hit in every place it was brought to. In current times, metals such as gold, uranium and lead are very rare, and the only place a person is likely to find some is in pieces of Bazan. The daredevil captain of the ''Jannot'' once ate 5 pieces of Bazan in a dare. It was unfortunately (or fortunately, if you share a certain writers attitude) the last thing he did.

Bazan has also been used in the construction of a large statue in the affluent ''Venlet'' tribe. However, the clay used in that bazan was of inferior quality, and during the sandstorm later that year, the statue crumbled very unceremoniously. Bazan has gone on to become the backbone of many fledgling economies, and its influence continues to spread as travellers speed on further into unknown lands.

Once tribes starting trading, they soon became dissatisfied with bartering. A monetary system was needed. Tribes came up with and hung onto their own ideas doggedly, but it was the value of the ''Aurivorous Worm'' that cemented the new monetary system. Bazan, a dark but light commodity, is said to  have been first made shortly after the discovery of the amazing worm. The oldest worms which can be found are ground up, and clay is added (some use dirt instead of clay, but this kind of bazan is not as valued).

The mixture is cut into discs, and then baked in the sun. Bazan was an immediate hit in every place it was brought to. In current times, metals such as gold, uranium and lead are very rare, and the only place a person is likely to find some is in pieces of Bazan.
