Asphalt AgaricYou are on the archive wiki. The new wiki is here. The Asphalt Agaric is a gigantic, technically edible fungus commonly seen growing on the ruined highways of the Screaming Wastes. Whenever the poison tide recedes, gatherers from the nearby Tooloo Tribe risk contamination to collect it. It forms a staple of their diet, and is traded to neighbouring tribes. When raw, AA has an amplifying effect on the telepathic abilities of mutant humans, and is hallucinogenic to non-telepaths; in this form, however, it is also slightly toxic, provoking a fatal allergic reaction in one out of ten individuals. AA is reputedly completely safe for human consumption after being boiled four times in salted water; needless to say, this completely strips it of its mind-expanding properties. Among the Tooloo it is customary to flirt with danger by boiling AA only three times before eating; this may explain a lot about that bizarre Tribe. AA is of course completely harmless to mutant roaches. It is not a popular foodstuff, but its adherents claim that it gives them a pleasant buzz.
