Description

1948, Kleitos Island in the Aegean Sea. With the end of World War II, archaeologists have once again returned to this mostly rural island to resume the excavation of the ancient Greek acropolis of Achlys.

But something unexpected has been discovered buried at the Oracle of Nyx: the remains of a large animal, species unknown.

“An amazing discovery!” the team lead writes to their departmental head at Princeton University. “We cannot tell even if it's vertebrate or invertebrate, let alone how it came to this island. Send us a palaeontologist who feels confident that they can safely exhume this thing.”

But now the team has stopped responding to communications, and there are reports that they are no longer on the island.
