• Tis Funny. I was just thinking of starting a boardgame society. Out of the nature of such a beast a libruary would have to be built up. as claws has some boardgames in its libruary I would be intrested in digging them out fixing them up and getting some playtime on them. - perhaps Talon is the answer to this little problem. - ork-khrist

• I think we should start small and widen the scope of our activities gradually, instead of setting up lots of organisational structure at the start, which may end up never being used - perhaps do as the LUGs? (Linux Users' Groups) do and have an organisation centered on a mailing list. - MyrdemInggala
• Some things I think it'd be cool for Talon to do are a CON and a newsletter. I'm picturing the newsletter as something smaller (a few pages?) but more regular (quartely?) than CLAWmarks. I have some ideas scribbled down for a completely modular CON - the idea being to trim central organisation to an absolute minimum. Think flashCON (as in, flash mob). - Hodge

Talon is the unofficial name of the slowly congealing society of ex-CLAWmembers and members of affiliated trades, who are not on campus.

It's kind of official; there are two Google groups: talon-announce - moderated, for announcements only talon-discuss - for everyone to talk on

You can go there and join (at the moment Gnome will have to approve you), and decide if you want to receive the lists through email, or through email in a condensed form, or not through email at all (and just read them on the web).

What are we doing?

We're trying to do something about the CLAWs library. It's currently in storage and not really being used, and the current CLAWmembers don't really want to keep all the old stuff (D&D 1st Ed., AD&D, assorted other ancient materials). Getting space on UCT campus seems as unlikely as ever; it looks like the only UCT option is convincing Special Collections to take it, and we don't know what would happen to it after that.

So currently a proposed plan is for Talon to take over looking after the library, by splitting everything into logical parts (all the D&D, all the White Wolf, all the wargames, etc.) and distributing them to responsible people who will keep them in their houses, look after them, and let people visit and borrow them according to some reasonable arrangement.

While splitting the library is obviously not as good a solution as keeping it all together, it's unlikely that anyone has enough room to store all of it in an accessible way. It's possible that if there's enough interest Talon could raise funds to rent space for a proper library, but if that is even feasible it is a long-term plan.

Talon is the theoretical name of the hypothetical society of ex-CLAWmembers and members of affiliated trades, who are not on campus.
