Nomination for ClawThing? -Mike Dewar

Or is it ‘application’? Because I’m not exactly sure if you can nominate yourself – but then again, ‘application’ sounds more like a job than a position. Not that this is any way relevant. It’s just a way to make my application/nomination seem longer than it really is by pointlessly filling up space, thus creating the impression that there are many brilliant reasons why I should be ClawThing?. Cunning, eh?

If I end up ClawThing?, I promise to:

THE SERIOUS BIT:

So yeah. Why ClawThing?? Because people have told me to – and I feel that being impressionable and blindly obeying the opinions of others is something CLAWS needs in a leader.

I’ve got boatloads of RPG experience, canoe-loads of LARP experience…and a kinda-sad-rubber-dingy-thing-load of Magic experience. I’ve been involved in the committee two years running, so I know what I’m getting myself into (and yet I’m still volunteering…God knows why)

As GuildMASTER? (MASTER! DAMN YOU ALL!), I ran LARPs just about every varsity month (and on one notable occasion THREE in one month…), tried valiantly to keep Monday Night Mayhem alive for the 1st semester, but watched it die on the operating table during the 2nd semester (For the record, I was approached once in six months by someone who was vaguely interested, and then they changed their mind. I figure it’s self-defeating to force people to attend and have fun, so that was that. Anyone who is still keen, PLEASE GOD, just talk to me. Or a committee member. Or anyone. We’re not psychic, ya know.) and let’s just not talk about the DM’s Workshop.

So some successes, some failures….but all in all I think things went OK. There are a million-and-one campaigns running at the moment, so demand for MNM was low at the best, but LARPS are popular as ever…and I understand the Thursday Movie Evening is going well (Reuel and his DVDs just keep giving and giving… And we still need to see you there... You do know that anyone is welcome, right? Well, maybe not that guy in the back... he smells, so not him... But everyone else... - Reuel) Dragonfire was a hoot-and-a-half (even with a sadly reduced Jo-burg contingent) and ICON was just… <BJ’s FLASHBACK> Mummy…

The Wiki has been colonised by WEIRDOS. But then again, who can remember a time when it wasn’t.

Still no room, damn it. We did try, honest, but varsity just stone-walled us to death. Next on the agenda: find a new place for the library before Conrad, Mark and Ian torch it.

I have a plan. It involves a length of twine, a mousetrap and a bazooka.

Elect me and find out what happens next….

Application for Scrivener - Ian Kitley

How the hell am I supposed to follow that proposal?! Yeah, yeah, its me again. Deciding to sign myself up for another year of deadlines, stress and last minute phonecalls. Yes, I'm a masochist. Just don't call me about any late night sex games involving whips and leather. Michelle just might complain.
Okay, enough bullshit. For the last year, I've been holding this position and here's what I've done:

Things I failed to do:

So, what do I offer or expect to be able to do next year. I think I've shown that I can be helpful to the committee and seem to meet most of the requirements for being scrivener. I might get on a lot of people's nerves whilst doing it but I generally get things done. Secondly, if Gareth doesn't go to Icon next year, I have enough contacts and know the general plot to organise the trip up. I seem to remember that that was one on the scrivener's main jobs in days gone by.
Look all politicians, I promise to get my act together and fix my screw ups from this year. Well, I'll try anyway. Yeah, sorry, this isn't a very funny application but I'm too tired and, lets face it, not at all funny. So vote for me on Tuesday. You'll be voting for a more stressed out committee.

                                  * Ian

Nomination for Scrivner Sean Finniss aka WombatBoy.

Why in Cthulhu's name would I be running for scrivner might you ask? The most honest, blunt and direct answer I could give you, is that I want to, I enjoy roleplaying and all the other funny dripping bits that comes with claws and I would like to help out with the society in general, however I don't want to be charged with the responsibilities of Clawthing or guildmistress (MISTRESS) because I am not good at that type of thing, it just isn't my style.
So, what can I offer? Not cheese. I hate cheese. I have a drivers license, I have an obsession with keeping notes on things ( those who have roleplayed with me would know this ). I love stationary (ignore that). I am relatively good at organising things if I feel it is important ( given Andrea and Michaels involvements next year...it will be). I wouldn't waste my time applying for this position if I didn't think I could do it.

Bulleted stuff:

What I have done last year:

Thingy for whatsit (i.e. Application/nomination for Guildmistress) - Michelle Haward

Right, I suppose that I have to get this thing over and done with. Don't expect any 'Because I Can and I will' (what exactly?) or 'Do you want Action?' SRC type vote for me thingies. I don't like that so I'm not going to do it.

Now that that's out of the way, why on earth would I want to be Guildmistress? I have a few possible answers to this:

Ok, more seriously - it does seem like fun. Being able to have a rather large input in terms of LARPS, roleplaying, dragonfire and various other committee things - well, it's the most interesting postition available. Even if it does involve a rather large amount of organisation. After hanging around the committee quite a bit during this past year, I think I have a vague idea of what's going on ;).

What I plan on doing:

I think the main thing going for me it that I have ideas, LOTS of ideas. Some will work, others need to be thrown out and others just need to be fine tuned. And I'm willing to work at them to see something come of it.

Another good thing - I don't mind being guildMISTRESS.

And now I'm rambling, so I'll just cut it short and say that I'll have fun and most likely so will you (unless there's nuclear fallout from the secret nuclear missile silo on campus).

Position of Treasurer: Andrea Hickman

Hmmm... Well, I would probably find it easier to describe it - in detail - the differences in the diets of Homo Habilis and Homo Erectus. I'm sure you all care.

So, once again I'm running for treasurer. Which is a good thing really. If there's a new treasurer, then there needs to be a new bank card becasue the current one is in my name. They will have to cut the one I have and issue a new one. Which involves time, paperwork and will probably cost us money.

Also, being familiar with what's involved I will be able to spend less time worrying about the money and more doing other, far more interesting things. Like the fundraising that didn't seem to happen this year. But looks far more likely to happen in the next year... Mainly because some people have come up with viable ideas, which they have been discussing with me.

Having said that, the experience of this year enables me to deal with all the problems I've found. Such as keeping track of bank charges, so that we don't think we're missing money. Another one is people who lose receipts and shouldn't get paid. But I still need to think about that one for a bit.
