The following LARPs will be on offer at this year's Dragonfire:

Saturday Evening:
Founding of Tellas Beta by Rolf

The Colony Wars between the Dranek Empire and the Human Alliance did not turn out in the Empire's favour. Although firmly in the driving seat in the few few battles of the war, they were on the back foot when the humans found many allies to help in the war effort. Dranek, however, never surrender. They would have continued fighting for many years, if it weren't for a huge accident on their homeworld, which caused a spatial rupture, destroying half their core system.

The Dranek fleet decimated, their leadership wiped out, they had no choice but to surrender. A new Dranek leadership took it upon themselves to give their race a new start, and became more open, starting trade with other alien governments. The enigmatic Ayos, a relatively new race in interstellar politics, despite allying with the humans during the Colony Wars, were still largely a mystery.

They worship a race called the Ancients, a powerful space faring civilization that once controlled the whole galaxy, that mysteriously disappeared eons ago. They left ruins all around the galaxy, although ruins is perhaps the wrong word. While certainly abandoned, they are in perfect condition, which makes the Ancients disappearance all the stranger. They have many gods and preach of the "Way to Kalivas", the virtuous path that will lead them to their homeworld.

The Ancient homeworld was discovered about a thousand years ago by an emotionless and scientifically minded race called the Taynen. They would have investigated closer, but the planet was guarded by massive planetary defence turrets and shields. While it has been studied heavily from far, no one has yet been able to get to the surface. The Taynen Order were mostly neutral during the war, selling technology to whoever could provide something useful in exchange. The accident in the Dranek core system is of great interest to them, and they have been petitioning the Dranek empire for permission to conduct extensive research in the area.

The second space station built in the honour of the Ayos hero Tellas, has just been completed, and the Ayos Illuminate has invited representatives of all the major alien races to come celebrate this auspicious occasion with them. A chance to meet up and talk to representatives of the other alien races is a chance too good to pass up.

Sunday Evening:
Hungover in the Hyades by Simon and Adrianna

The year is 4309. The human sphere has fractured, and Imperial and Colonial forces are clashing in dozens of systems across the galaxy.

Fortunately for you, the Hyades cluster is a neutral territory. Its alien cultures—which, although primitive, appear to be the remains of several ancient fallen civilisations—have been placed under the protection of the multi-species Galactic Parliament, a benevolent but mostly ineffectual overseer.

Here the war is just an unpleasant echo. The cluster's inhabitants—assorted archaeologists, historians, adventurers, lowlifes, suspected spies, off-duty officers, as well as the collected native population (the last believed by most of the former not to really count)—are far more interested in the exciting discoveries to be made in the forbidding deserts, swamps and jungles of the four primary worlds.

Did their empires flourish and fall independently, or were they uplifted and later abandoned by some conquering precursor race? What is the rightful place of the hundreds of fascinating artefacts recovered from the ruins—museums, private collections, or the hands of the makers' surviving descendants?

Ordinarily you'd have a lot to say on the subject. Right now, however, you have other priorities. You would very much like to find your pants, and something to take care of that pounding headache. You're sure that the party you went to last night was fantastic—you can't believe you finally got to see the inside of Matthias Renault's luxury yacht! You only wish that you were able to remember more of it—and that you knew how to extricate yourself from your current predicament.

Space available for players of any gender. To sign up, please email adrianna dot pinska at gmail dot com or hodgestar at gmail dot com. There will be a R30 charge for drinks and snacks, but first-time LARPers play free.
