Help us get CLAWmarks online!

We are in the process of putting up contents pages of all the issues on the wiki. Our eventual long-term aim is to have an online html archive of all previous issues of CLAWmarks on the CLAWs website. In the short term, it would be nice at least to have downloadable PDFs. It will go a lot faster with your help.

What can you do?

The easy version

  • Fill in missing contents pages. Fix obvious typos and spelling mistakes, and include article authors even if the issue's contents page doesn't.
  • If you have the final print version of a recent CLAWmarks, export it to PDF if it's not a PDF already and put it up on the wiki.
  • If you have an earlier CLAWmarks (the kind they made with a typewriter and sticky tape) and a scanner, scan the whole thing, save it as a PDF and put it up on the wiki (isn't it nice that it's The Future and we have lots more bandwidth and storage)?

The hard version

  • If you have the final print version of a recent CLAWmarks, extract the articles and save them as text. Note that using the initial text files won't help, since articles are frequently edited during the layout process. Also extract any important artwork (see next point). Save covers as some sort of postscript file, then convert to .jpg.
  • If you have copies of integral artwork from earlier issues (such as centrefold pictures, diagrams or any other pictures which directly illustrate an article), please tell us.
  • If you have an earlier CLAWmarks and a scanner, scan as many pages of text as you can so that they can be OCRd. Please tell us which issue you're scanning below, so that we don't have unnecessary duplication of work. Also scan covers.
  • If you have OCR software, OCR as much saved text as you can.
  • Proofread OCRd articles.

Once we have all the text and images, we will be able to create a CLAWmarks website.

Post whatever you have done to Ctheditors*, and say at what stage of completion it is. To avoid future confusion, use the following file naming conventions:

Article text files:issue number - short article name - .txte.g. 23editorial.txt
Scanned pages:issue number - page number - .jpge.g. 2301.jpg

This wiki page should serve as a summary of what has been done so far, so make a note of of your work here after posting to the list.

* Yeah, so ctheditors kind of died. If you're actually keen to help out with this, contact the committee and we'll see what we can do.
